-- like i really cannot find a legitimate reason anywhere within my brain capacity to see why this is necessary.
Yes, everyone has their favorites and their least favorites, but they're literally just pixels all on a game. I don't understand why people are getting triggered just for being sent something they don't like when at the end of the day, you close your browser and it doesn't affect you in any way, shape or form in real life.
Let's take this into consideration: They're meant to be nice gestures, especially when done randomly. When Christmas/Sky/Valentine's Gifts roll around, no one gets upset when they get one. They're all unnecessary to the game's purpose or goal, yet serve as nice gestures that you can live without.
I'm more for Greggory_Lee's point where you could be taken out of the algorithm for receiving random plushies considering when a new Event Distribution comes out, a lot of users, including myself, mass-send out Magikarp plushies with the 'Random User' option. This would help people who are receiving random plushies they don't like knowing that they're not being sent those plushies intentionally for some odd reason [something I like to call arrogance].
I honestly see it as users overreacting and feeling self-entitled; if you can't accept a gift, let alone a random one, I feel like you shouldn't be getting any in the first place. Just take the damn thing.
Honestly, I think this idea makes sense. The favorites say "hey send me this!" a blocker says "I hate this, don't send it" WITHOUT the risk of people trolling you by sending it on purpose to tick you off or get a reaction. I think any idea that cuts down on trolling, drama, and harassment should be implemented. This idea could have prevented the entire thing last night.
It wasn't just the fact that they were receiving their least-favorite plushie that made them upset, it was the fact that people were intentionally SPAMMING it to them with hateful comments. It wasn't just about the plushie, it was the intent behind them.
Sure, jerks will find a way to be jerks, but this suggestion will cut out one of those ways entirely.
If they're doing it intentionally with hateful comments, it then could be considered harassment so report them and move on with your life. Once again, really not that big of a deal.
If you send a random plushie and someone does not want said plushie the sender will get blocked inadvertently for something they did not know would cause said blocking action.
To prevent such drama in the future this simple implementation, similar to favoriting a plush, will hopefully be beneficial to many.
Title: Sis youre genius
me when someone sends me a magikarp plushie
Plushies are a pretty useless part of the game, and are pretty much just here as decorations. If anything, I think a plushie notification blocker would be a better idea. That way, you can hide your plushie collection and if someone sends you a plushie you don't like, you don't have to see it. True, you won't get to see plushies you like from users you like, but I don't think that a plushie blocker would be a good idea since plushies are literally just decorations.
No support
And as for random plushies, maybe an automatic feature that posts "Random" on the plushies message automatically? Some users already do this, and it would make it so you know when a plushie is random.
Anyway, I'm definitely liking what @imagine had to say with their post. However, I want to point out some things, and make some comments, since I also like @Fernsong's post.
Not only do I completely agree with what you're saying, but even better yet we already have such a thing which can be found over in Misc. Settings.
Tick that off, hit save, and then...
...we have a simple yet effective solution to the problem! :D
On a real note though:
I really like this concept of an idea a lot, and it made me think for a good while, actually. Especially if older plushies you've received would be shown as randomly received, or not as well. This would let these people that get triggered and block other people straight from the git go without any warning for plushies they don't like clearly know if the plushie sending was intentional, or not. It would work and be similar to how the Shiny Panel had got updated, and when if you had a chain it would display the number of shinies/megables you've achieved thus far.
Here's what I have come up for what I have in mind exactly. I think it's much cleaner than having "random" put automatically in messages.
Simple and straight forward.
Nobody would have to assume they would be getting targeted anymore. This would also help those to reflect back on their past actions where they have blocked someone, and maybe actually come forward and apologize for something they've wrongly accused those for. I definitely feel that only good would come out of this, and it would be beneficial for the health of the community.
