There has long been whispers of a plot. A plot to take over the throne, created by power hungry anarchists. Well, at least that was the most popular rumour spreading. The people behind the plot ranged from commoners to anarchists to the princesses/princes. You really can’t trust anyone, can you? No matter who it is, one thing is certain. Find the killer, otherwise the situation will end badly forever.

You have been invited to the royal ball, the one held to find a new fitting princess or prince to take over when the current queen and prince die (queen’s consort…monarchy….blah blah you must have royal blood yada yada yada) It has been hosted in the form of a masquerade- a ball whereby people have elaborate costumes and masks.

A highly clever but introverted character, Lysander is often locked up in his own private rumination, and prefers to keep others at a distance. His methodical working style, which dictates logic and routine, is not necessarily for everyone. He tends to approach problems systematically, breaking bigger problems into smaller pieces that he can deal with easily. Lysander is highly in tune with his mind, to his benefit. He is quick to identify and analyze patterns and trends, and he isn't above out-of-the-box solutions. In essence, he is the very definition of all brain and no brawn. In tandem with his mental acuity, Lysander is in possession of a wit whose purpose is entirely determined by context alone. In general, his wit is dry, and in times of strife, his humor can take a dark turn. Most people misinterpret his sardonic words as mocking or irreverent, but that is far from the truth. In reality, Lysander takes every situation seriously, but he comes off as frank in a way that is misinterpreted as callousness and insensitivity.

The prince is slow to befriend and trust, his bitter demeanor creating an outer shell around him that is hard to breach. He sees the worst in people, and braces against betrayal by keeping up a constant vigilance. The kindest of his acquaintances call him reserved, those who dislike him call him paranoid. It's hard for him to lower his guard, and once he does, it seems that most of his discomfort stems from being vulnerable. Once his trust is earned, Lysander honors his friendships deeply. In truth, Lysander is fairly sentimental and sensitive, highly perceptive of his partner's emotions. He prefers to keep his reticence, thinking that actions speak louder than words. A stoic observer, Lysander is willing to sit down and listen to others peoples problems, pondering in respectful silence before offering a solution. His humor is not as biting, taking on a sly, teasing quality. Still, it's hard to describe him as warm.

His aloof behavior comes with a certain level of fear, of secret mistrust. Even though he keeps a calm and coldly charming demeanor, his thought impulses quickly spiral into worse-case scenarios and worry. Lysander is pretty judgmental and defensive, never truly relaxed, and always investigating. The slightest coalition prompts his interest; the whisperings of rumors always reach his ears one way or another. He is hyper-vigilant. Most of the time, his fears are unfounded. He knows how to make surface-level conversation to deflect suspicion, but his penchant for honesty and bluntness means he is more than capable of laying down hard criticism. Don't mistake his anxiety for submissiveness; Lysander knows how to keep a cool head while tearing into someone's psyche at the same time. Unfortunately, this tends to bring about the exact situation that he goes to avoid.

It's hard to earn his trust, but it's even harder, if not impossible, to regain it. Once betrayed, Lysander quickly becomes an enemy for life. The prince is unrelenting to the point of ruthlessness, more than willing to hunt down and exact vengeance upon the poor unfortunate who crossed him. A betrayed Lysander is fiery and snide at best, openly vicious and murderous at worst. This penchant for brutality when he is crossed is often unexpected, as most people readily assume he does not have a temper readily on display. His words begin to snarl and bite, sinking into his opponents' weaknesses and tearing them into shreds. In the aftermath however, guilt haunts him incessantly as he inevitably mourns those lost relationships. He often times catches himself thinking about what they could have been if things had gone differently, a cycle of melancholy and somber thinking.

lysander has never opted for anything fine, but by virtue of his unusual and prestigious ranking, the mask is very elegant indeed. the gold marks him as a male of nobility and prestige, bringing out the unusual hazel color of his eyes to the forefront, as well as the burnished golden tips of his hair. in the political royal world, the male's appearance clearly lives up to his title - sol invictus - and alludes to his ability of light-weaving. however, to anyone willing to look closely, the mask looks gilded and far too delicate, willing to break at the slightest application of pressure.

despite what it may seem like, lysander does not have a drop of royal blood in his veins, nor is he in any way high-born. born to a kingdom categorized by immense wealth and splendor, maintaining ones image was kept as a top priority, and beauty was prized. what was more than obvious, however, was that with this beauty came the societal expectations to succeed at any cost. thus, when the king discovered that his wife had had a miscarriage that resulted in the death of his heir, he decided to take one of the kingdom's young to raise instead. taking away a young one away from their family might've seemed cruel, but the loss of two children in childbirth was an unimaginable scandal. and after all, what good was power if you didn't use it? they needed a son to ensure the safety of their kingdom. they needed a heir.

this isn't to say that lysander was kidnapped, per sé, after all even a vain and 'glorious' king and queen would never resort to such low and mean tactics. a deal was struck between the royals and lysander's parents who agreed to transfer their son to the palace to receive advanced training. lysander was young, only six years of age, but he had very little choice in the matter. the moment his abilities manifested, an aptitude in light-weaving, his fate was sealed.

A charming young man with quite youthful features, Yahui's appearance often confuses people slightly as they don't exactly expect a marquess, especially not one so politically savvy, to be so young. His face still holds the softness of a teenager and his mischievous brown eyes invite others to befriend him. He holds a more mature air around him, one of someone who has seen the worst in humanity and still hasn't looked away. He isn't extremely tall, leaning more into the short side but his mere presence and confidence takes up more than enough room in any conversation, drawing the eye and places him under the spotlight frequently. He prefers to be on top of trends and other such information, valuing his outward expression of poise and elegance.

Charming, Alluring, Captivating. So often people describe Yahui as such as they hang onto every word he says. He is a polite and affable young man, capable of swaying even the most hard hearted of people to view him favourably and it lies within his gentle nature. He has a way of talking as if you are being heard, as if he actually cares. It resonates with people and Yahui's loyalty definitely earns theirs. He very rarely strays from his path, almost single minded in his quest to do what he thinks what is right. His focus leads him to loose sight of crucial details at times as he can easily jump to conclusions but he knows when to hold his tongue and keep his cards close to his chest in order to forge his ideal world. But what that world is, very few people actually know what it is. While he is undoubtedly loyal and always delivers on his promises, his loyalty is not to the people but to himself and his twin, the only two people he will ever look out for. Don't mistake it for not caring, he does, but when it comes down to it, he will always choose Mara over the world

Be careful whenever Yahui opens his mouth for his words may bewitch you and cause you to fall under his trance. His voice will make you believe things you never would have thought possible, convincing even the best of people that they can breathe underwater or to approve of his newly constructed policy. In order for him to manipulate people though, he himself must wholeheartedly believe in whatever he is saying and in turn imbue that conviction into his voice. His powers don't work on anyone who have mental powers so he unfortunately can't con his twin into eating both of their tomatoes. He can do other things with his voice such as mimicking vocal patterns but that is purely his own talent and is no thanks to his powers

Unlike most of the other participants, Yahui's mask only covers half of his face while the rest curves around his face in an almost mockery of a crown, the gilded gold flowers sparking under the lights as the cool gold presses against his skin. The slightly dented metal raises suspicions but the soft metal is nothing but real as the gentle teeth marks from the dangling tags attest to. There is barely any semblance of anonymity but Yahui couldn't care less for he has ways of making others forget him before the night's over.

Much like their twin, Mara sports a very youthful face, soft and almost boyish in its wide innocent eyes. As identical twins, they are very often confused for one another but the biggest difference between them is their height. Mara is taller than Yahui, though not by much, and while wide and innocent their eyes aren't as mischievous as their twin, they seem empty at times, as if they aren't quite seeing the world. This is because they indeed are legally blind, requiring a servant's assistance to not only see but hear as well. Perhaps as a penance for acquiring such a powerful ability, Mara has very few physical capabilities, being very physically weak and having very few working senses. Their own fashion sense is nothing to scoff at, often staying quite casual while remaining classy enough to blend seamlessly in court

Outwardly, Mara is quiet and meek, always standing in their twin's shadow and keeping their head down. They act much more like a servant than a Marquess, silently serving their brother in every capacity. When spoken to, they don't reply, only silently looking at the ground and let Yahui do most of the speaking. In reality, Mara is snarky and a bit childish, always complaining and whining to whoever will listen (usually Yahui) and plotting pranks. They would rather feign being useless than do anything their twin is doing but still studiously studies the people that Yahui needs to sway to his side, providing a supporting hand in whispering suggestions right into his mind. They know when to speak up and when to sit back and watch, but most of the time they just like to be babied

They say its the silent one's that you should look out for and in the case of Mara that certainly applies. Mara can enter other people's minds, seeing through their eyes and hearing through their ears, taking in the world through another's senses. They can control the brain to some extent, making others see or hear things by affecting their receptors and so to some extent, Yahui and Mara do share twin telepathy whenever Mara speaks to their twin through their mind. Often people don't notice their presence in their brain and are oblivious to it so whenever they can, Mara will simply hitch rides on the minds of whoever they can. They can destroy minds from the inside out, cutting off the stem from the rest of the body and giving a swift but peaceful ends or choose more... morbid and unpleasant methods, but it is difficult to enter people's minds without first getting to know them and understanding how their brain works in the first place. Mara usually resides in Yahui's mind most of the time, the familiarity of it a comfort. It also gives Yahui an advantage of having two brains at his disposal

Artisanal and a touch ostentatious, the wreaths of silver flowers and boughs wrap around Mara's face, obscuring their unseeing eyes from the world. Three moonstones inlaid into the crown a reflection of his title. Though if you look closely, the stones seem... odd. To burnished, too natural. Too fake. Now that you see it the silver looks weird, much too reflective. It's not silver is it, its just steel made to appear as if it was made of a higher quality and worth much more than it is

Background
The Malakos region has always been well known for two things. Its flowers, and its royal family. The family has always prioritized the well-being of their citizens above all else. Nothing else mattered to them as they used their considerable political influence and knack of swaying people to their side to a considerable degree to the point where they are considered one of the richer principalities under the crown. When the joyous news of twins was born to the marquis, it was seen as good fortune finally returning to the family. This blessing caused the royal family to buckle down on their giving, leaving very little time for them to take care of their children themselves. The twins were taught to value their subjects more than even each other, though the two thought otherwise. They couldn't quite understand why they should hold people they had never meet before above the one person that had stuck with them since birth

This sentiment only grew when the twins began manifesting powers. There was always the large pressure to manifest something useful, something that would help the masses and bring even more prosperity to the region. That excitement, however, quickly fizzled out when Mara began loosing his vision along with other various senses. When people began to act... different whenever talking with Yahui it was surmised that the twins, signs of luck both good and bad, embodied these traits. Yahui was the bringer of supposed good luck with his ability to sway anyone to his side a word was best suited to helping the masses while Mara had very little use within the community and represented bad luck. Under their new names as tradition dictated, Mara was hidden away from the public as a simple servant and Yahui made his political debut, making waves as his presence spelled a brighter future for his region.

Though the twins were separated, they still found ways to communicate, especially as Mara's powers began to grow and they experimented with them even more. Both of their resentment against the system which forced them apart and valued unknown people and arbitrary values over each other only festered. If they could, they would tear the system down but both also acknowledge that the very system they despise are the ones that keep them alive
