Since it's the beginning of Gay Pride month this year, I thought this would be the appropriate time to finally roll this suggestion out. Been waiting a long time.

So, this is what I have so far after changing things. The suggestion has been changing from the initial suggestion that was put forth.



Instead of Country Settings, it's Flag Settings now. Country Flags and flags that are unrelated to countries are now separated from each other. Taking what KrazyKarp had said in a later post in thread, I do think that this was better approach than what I had initially presented.

The new flags that would be forseeably added going from left to right:

Straight Ally, Heterosexual, Gay, Bisexual, Pansexual, Asexual, Transegender, Genderfluid/Genderflexible, Genderqueer, Polysexual, Agender, Non Binary, Demisexual, Lesbian (newer flag)

I know I'm missing some, but feel free to mention and bring up any, and show images. Also, I do know that some have multiple flags such as heterosexual, or some flags have some controversy behind them (such as the lesbian flag) so of course this is holding some bias on my behalf. I'm mainly just trying to put this all into perspective, and to help everyone visualize what this could really be like.



This was the idea Cofagrigus had (with displaying 2 flags), so you can display both a country flag, and a flag from the Other category (you can see the first screenshot where both are selected). You could also be able to display only 1 flag from either category, or still none at all, of course.

Anyway, I just thought this would be neat, and there's a lot of games/sites that offer to have LGBTQ+ flags be displayed in a clear fassion like this amongst others, so why not? Personally, this would actually get me to use the flag feature, and would be nice to clearly show others that I am other things that a flag can represent that I also may support as well.

Also, I don't mind adding borders for any and all added flags if this passes and Riako wants to adopt the idea.

i support but also.. gay isn’t a country?? just commission a sprinter to make you a tiny flag and put it on your profile somewhere!- heck i would do it for free! don’t put extra work on the mods!

I mean, it's country settings. While I love the idea of it and fully support the LGBTQ+ community, it doesn't make any sense to put it as your country. Like gregoryk said, just spread the little flag around and I'm sure people will put it on their profiles somewhere :)

I agree with KrazyKarp as far as country settings go, I mean all of us in the LGBTQ+ community can find a flag to show our own pride. I do support the idea of the community coming together to have something as a unifier across PH for us to put on our profiles, but I'm also hoping it doesn't come down to people feeling left out because their flag isn't an option. I can easily find the pan flag, but for my friends that are genderfluid and ace, they tend to have a trickier time.

But like peeps already said, it shouldn't be in the country flag setting
But for the peeps sayinf we should put the flag somewhere else on the profile.. nice try, but the OPs suggestion was to have it in the prior, first seen "part" of the profile
To add pride flags in there and not somewhere else lower

Does it really matter where it's located on the profile, though?

The argument is redundant as the support is speaking for itself at this point, and the majority wants to see it clearly, or doesn't mind it. It's really neat.

I honestly wouldn't mind other flags, and creating them for use, really.

No one should be feeling left out of anything.

Lots of support does not equal redundancy in any circumstances of argument, but that's a whole other topic.

Alternatively, the settings could simply be renamed "flags" and the LGBTQ+ flag (and others) could function separately from the country flags. I'm just looking for consistency in the name of the settings and what the settings include, if that makes sense.

I don’t support this cuz there r other countries that still need flags like mine, ecuador and that hv been waiting more and personally they r more important

I don't mind this, I like the idea but the only downside here is that certain people would probably be felt left out or some people would feel the need to cause discourse. This is truly something positive but from what I have seen from this site for 5 years now, I really don't trust some parts of the PH community.

The first sentence is meant for those... Very extra flags. Who's to say what's the limit that will be added for this new setting? There are some ridiculous concepts out there and I don't need to give examples, can't, even, as to not offend anybody. As much as I support young teens discovering their identity, it's not a very safe place to tread.

The second concern I have is from what I've observed but not participated, is that people are very drawn to drama on this site. Pride is good and you should celebrate it if you want to but negativity is very prevalent on PH. Most users leap at any chance that they can start drama with. Examples of discourse is the whole Ace not being part of the LGBT community or 'trenders' identifying as Transgender. I don't take sides in these things because this should a community that bring people together, not separate them. Unfortunately, not everyone think that way. *Discourse happens all the time and will happen no matter what but I'm sure you understand what I mean with this.

I'm very neutral on this but I do like the idea as I'm part of the community. Maybe something just to show support for the LGBT and not specific options. I'm not against it but just raising the potential problems that may arise. Although I do think if people did this themselves with the custom widgets we already have, it'd be far easier and allows for more options. People can do it if they want to and customize it to their will.

I love the idea, but I'm Demi-Ace. Would it be possible to show up to 2 LGBT Flags in addition to the Country? Or maybe 2 LGBT Flags instead of Country?
