On pokeheroes, we have one page that we hope everyone reads, the rule page.

While we are an English-based site, many of the users on here do not have English as a first language, and sometimes this leads to misunderstandings.

So what I am proposing here are the rules in a few different languages (translated by users, not google) so that everyone can understand and follow the rules.

This would work with a little drop-down to select your language (on this page only) that switches to the rules in your first language.

-------------

Translations so far(?)

**Note**
I know we are an English-based site, but remember - not all the users know

If you can read this, you know how to read.

Full support. Mainly because that's one page that everyone needs to understand, whether they can read/type English or not. (And it can state that the site is English, thus most of the forums are expected to be kept in English)

Plus, google translate butchers translations, which makes it hard for the members to know the rules clearly if they don't know English.

I like the idea. It'd be difficult to translate it into many different languages, but it's possible. I personally think the country clans should do this for their respective culture's language.

This is one of the good suggestions. I'm a volunteer for the Portuguese (Y)

But there is a problem: How Riako will know that the translation is right?

This is quite the great way to ensure users will understand the rules since there's members with different levels of skills when it comes to English.

Obviously, the rules can't be translated to all languages (At least I highly doubt it.) so some minor languages will be left out but I think quite a few could be covered if we get a lot of people to help with this.

That being said, there's probably not many Finnish users here but I'd be more than willing to help out and translate the rules to Finnish.

Also, to ensure the translations are accurate, I think there should be more than one person working on a translation. You know, people could make their translations, compare them, discuss and adjust them to get the best outcome. Teamwork rules.

I would support it if there were some weird rules. But it is not necessary because what PH asks is normal behavior rules and no use of programs or multiple accounts that would simplify site's features.

Perhaps do the 10-15 most used languages here, discluding English. So, we can get the majority of the languages down and all/most users knowing the rules.

Wah, just changed my vote. There are some rules people can't guess now. Support.

What if there would be a link on the rules page that sends you to another page where there are the translated rules? And a link to send the PH staff a translation of the rules to another language that isn't translated yet?

I support this idea! I'd like to be a volunteer to translate them to spanish.

Edit: I think that to apply as a volunteer, you'd need to take a test to see your skills/knowledge with english. It, of course, should include grammar and vocabulary tests. And a way to check if your legal english is good enough (it shouldn't be too difficult imo).

Hmm, this sounds like quite a good idea - I'll volunteer for doing the Malay version of the Rules, since I'm proficient in it.

Oh, and maybe we can have 2 or more people do the translation of one specific language, having 2 as the minimum - have 1 person do the actual translation and another person be the proofreader.

Definitely need this, especially for young newbies begging and pleading for a rule break.

Right off the bat/first glance, I would love to see this be implemented.

I admit that I would use the extra languages it gets written in as a bit of foreign language... Regardless though, the idea of allowing those that are fluent/native writers of the needed language would be miles better over folks trying to read the messiness that translators offer as someone that has used them all too often... 😅

Also something to consider, maybe the extra languages would be helpful with players that are new and don't know enough English to have a firm grasp of the rules (please don't take this the wrong way). Not sure if this has happened but consider this for a non-English speaker: they would end up stumbling and growing nervous about playing as they try to get into the game and end up breaking a rule on accident (although some have done so due to those breaking the begging rule as another user stated) and unless they find another player that is a fellow native speaker of their language, they seem to be left out of the dark.

However, if a volunteer that is as stated fluent or a native speaker/writer explains the rules and its accessible for that player - there's the possibility of a better understanding of what to say or do and what's not allowed.
