Chakti was shaking, but he let Harlow hug him. His eyes were
closed, a small amount of whimpering escaping his throat. His good
hand was quivering the most, the thumb and pinky tapping the metal
frame of the bed, making it rattle. Eventually, he asked, "Am I
allowed to see her?" It was barely a whisper, only audible to
Harlow, as her ear was next to his mouth.
"District Two." Nova responded taking her towel off her hair and
drying it. "Aprently it's still a tough nut to crack, so I have to
go down there and try to unify them to help us." Nova shook her
hair once she'd finished, a looked messy and was all over, she blew
strand form her face. "So that means I have to get all prettied up
by my prep team and wear my Mockingjay get up."
"I think we can make that work" she tells him. "But later though.
She needs rest" she pulls back and glances towards the guard, who
was growing impatient. "I'll bring her down here soon" Harlow
promises him. She leaves the cell, flinching when the guard locks
the door. "And Chakti? Stay out of trouble please. I don't want to
see you here anymore" she tells him, then she leaves.
Bright, gold light washed in Adelaide's window slot, bathing her
and her roommate in the pure morning glow. The glow of it was so
strong that the vague contours of sunlight glowed behind her closed
eyelids, imbuing the blackness of the void with waves of gold.
Adelaide groaned, subconsciously rolling over into the darker gloom
of her bedsheets. She didn't want to wake. The waking world was
loud and unforgiving and filled with constant reminders that she
was at war. Ironic that this was what she should have trained for
her entire life.
Eventually, the stiffness on her limbs ceased, and she, at last,
opened her pale grey-blue eyes. Rolling up on her shoulders, and
blearily accepting that she was not going to sleep, she shot an
envying glance at Kardia who was still snoozing like a log. Lucky.
Drowsily, she tucked on her usual attire, which wasn't much at all
frankly. The straw-woven 2 that indicated her former district
glared at her dully from its place on her lapel, and she sneered
quietly, giving the emblem a shrewd look. As if she needed a
reminder of who she would've become.
Yesterday served as a bitter taste in her mouth.
Standing up with her eyes half-closed, she stumbled gracelessly to
Kardia's bedside to pick up her bag. The light had turned Kardia's
hair aflame, her locks glowing brazenly. It was actually a
beautiful sight.
A rush of emotion knocked into her; flooded her in a liberating
wave. Possessiveness or protectiveness? Nothing is going to take
you away from me again. Adelaide growled silently to herself.
Never again. Standing up before Kardia could wake up and
possibly see her brooding friend hovering over her, she turned away
with the slight effort and opened the door to allow in a blonde
male from 13.
"Command wants you, Miss Adelaide. Join the Mockingjay in 10
minutes for the mission to District II."
Her stomach dropped.
A weak "No promises" escapes his mouth, a small humorous smile
trying to spread across his face. He looked up to watch her leave,
his breathing still shaky. "Hey Harlow?" He watched her turn again.
"What about the infirmary?"
The moment the messenger left and Adelaide turned around to get
ready, Kardia had rolled over onto her side and propped her head
up, sly grin on her face. "well well well, busy aren't we, Ms.
Adelaide" she purred, putting emphasis on the title. Swinging her
legs out of the bed and stretching, Kardia groaned as her shirt
rode up slightly to expose her slightly scarred stomach. "I heard
that you're going back home for this one. Isn't that sooo
exciting?!" Clapping her hands in sarcastic joy she sauntered over
to drape her body over Adelaide's
A career district. Of course. "Can I... Came with you? I don't want
you to get hurt..." He mumbled, eyes hard despite the slightly
nervous tone. He also wasn't above using his powers to coax her
into letting him join as well, he wanted to make sure that Nova was
safe. While he did know that she was a strong and capable woman who
could easily overpower him when push came to shove, his own
instincts told him to stick close with her
Chakti chuckled, then whispered to himself, "A little bit late on
that..." He watched her leave, then laid down, his mind trying to
process everything without shattering. He closed his eyes and
rested his good hand o his face, repeating the conversation inside
his head over and over.
Virulent unease penetrated Adelaide to her core. She'd never
thought of II - her district - as home, since she remained a loner.
Even among her peers, relations were strained. The war had only
exacerbated that. With a heavy sigh, she bid the male goodbye and
massaged the bridge of her nose.
Her head picked up again as she heard Kardia's purring voice behind
her. Mrrf. She chuckled slightly at the coy undertone,
"We...yep, we're pretty damn busy this morning." Adelaide responded
dryly with a chuckle. Her eye grazed over the scar on kardia's
stomach noting the scar. "I'm not looking forward to home. I bet
they hate me there." She replied. She felt a sudden blanket of
warmth, and her eyes flicked up with surprise when Kardia draped
her body over hers. Quite unused to physical contact, she simply
put her hands over her friend, freezing up.
Emmie is still standing there. She doesn't move as she watches him,
anger alight in her eyes. She narrows her eyes and coughs again,
this time more forcefully, so he remembers shes there.

Chakti jolted, his eyes filled with panic suddenly. "Sorry.." He
sat up, blinking his eyes. "You know, I wish I could hug you but.."
He pointed at the guard. "He doesn't trust me to step out of this
thing." At that, the guard grunted, saying, "Last time you gave
me a black eye, kid." Chakti smiled a little and shrugged.
"Its better you stay there." she said bitterly, coughing again.
Fury burned in her eyes. "I don't want you to hug me." she hisses.
Emmie doesn't sound like herself, she sounds angry and bitter. "If
he hits you again, call for me." she tells the guard. She doesn't
give her name though.

Laughing at her awkwardness with physical affection, Kardia drew
back to stick her tongue out playfully. "Well if they hate you then
they must be missing a few brains." She declared, patting
Adelaide's shoulder. "And if you really are concerned about how
others think.... Hmmm.... Well! At least one person from II likes
your guts."
Chakti looked wounded. "I'm sorry for leaving you back there. I
didn't know what would happen after the quake." He looked down at
his lap, crestfallen. His broken hand rested awkwardly in his lap
as well, clearly much better than when he had broken the man's jaw
with it, even if it had just been a few days.
"It's because of you" she started, still hissing. "That I can't
breath. Its because of you that I'm going to die!" she snarls.
Emmie looks truly furious now, taking a step forward. She lets out
another loud cough, her shoulders shaking.

Adelaide's cheeks turned scarlet, not sure what to make of the last
few comments. Clearing her throat, Adelaide gave a warm nod of
gratitude to her roommate. "Thank you, sweetheart." Adelaide
responded with a snarky wink. She then slowly disentangled herself
from Kardia's grip, unintentionally taking a little longer than
expected. Gosh darn it, she needed to be there in ten, didn't she?
Well, she was already late. Adelaide bid her roommate goodbye,
encouraging her to save her something at breakfast before she
headed off at a very brisk pace toward the Command. She arrived
smoothly with the messenger at the hovercraft meeting
area.
When harlow came back Leaf was still sleeping with the covers
wrapped around her, harlow almost laughed because Leaf reminded her
of a cat when she did this, a cat beritto.
Nova put her still damp hair up in a high bun and looked at
Gateguard. "I have no problem with you tagging along, but I dont
know how the others will feel. I mean you can try to coax them into
letting you." Nova ducked into the bathroom to change and in less
then a minute she was dressed in her normal gray district 13
jumpsuit, what she was suposed to wear until she got to her prep
team. "If you hurry and get dressed you might be able to sneak on
board if you're really lucky."
Harlow crawls into bed, she is hopeful that she'll get at least an
hour of sleep before one of the kids can wake up. She holds Leaf
against her, feeling much more comfortable with her close to her
rather than being far away. She slowly shuts her eyes and falls
asleep
Laughing at the bright scarlet blooming over Adelide's face, Kardia
waved goodbye and blew her a kiss just for good measure and slipped
out to slide down to the mess hall. What should she do today? Nova
would be out as well so that meant that she couldn't try and
'murder' her today. It had originally started from genuine anger,
seeing the person who had killed her living in the same district
that brought her back had driven her to do some questionable things
in the first few weeks she had been brought back. But by now they
had a more friendly relationship and these almost daily friendly
murder attempts turned into a way for both of them to keep their
skills up. Sighing as her usual fun was taken away Kardia wondered
how to spend her day
Nodding, Gateguard ducked into the bathroom, finding a similar
jumpsuit with his own district jumpsuit and putting that on. He
paused in the mirror, looking at how thin he had become but quickly
put the clothing on and hurried out, not wanting to trap himself in
any more negative thoughts.
Chakti stared at his lap, a barely audible "I'm sorry" managing to
escape his mouth. He clenched his good fist. "I just didn't know
what to do. I just.." He slammed his good fist down on the metal
frame, ignoring the strange sound it made. His eyes grew angry once
more. "I couldn't just let myself know that people died and I had
sat there not helping! I saw those houses collapse, Emmie! I saw
them fall in on themselves!" The bottom of his (used to be) good
hand was at an odd angle. "I couldn't just let myself realize I'd
done nothing while people died.." He stood up, then drove his newly
broken hand against the glass, tears streaming down his face both
from rage and sadness.
