Lumine’s most dreaded nightmare had come true, she had been chosen for the Reaping.

’Lumine Snyders, team blue’ the voice rang sharp and clearly through her head, she tensed up, and sighed, she walked up onto the stage and afterwards was taken to the waiting room. The other district tribute, Chan-Juan, had volunteered for tribute in the place of a another person, Lumine wondered how someone would have the will power to do so, or maybe it was just her.

Lumine was a fairly normal person, living on her own in the city, she would sell her medicine in the town centre and cure sick people, she had no expectations that she would survive, since her only talent was healing, and she hated animals like spiders and snakes.

"You seem to have everything figured out- both how to obtain information and why I volunteered" Maverick responds with an amused chuckle. He glances away to stare out towards the crowd, who all looked relieved that the Reaping was over. They would be able to live a somewhat safe life for another year. His gentle gaze almost waters slightly- for once, he actually did something to help them out. "It wasn't so bad at first. When I got taken away to 'work' for the Capitol. I liked the idea of helping others. Until I found out that any medicine or vaccine that they were able to create never spread to the lower districts." He glares towards the ground and clenches his fists.

"Death doesn't scare me. I don't particularly wish to kill you or any of the tributes. I simply wish to show the Capitol my rage before I pass." He smiles. "You don't need to lie. I'm happy that you value your own life... You seem close with your sister." Again, he glances up at Lilith to offer her a kind smile. "If it comes down to it- if I am the last Red team member alive, I will allow you to return back to her... Just-" his gaze drops again. "Just, let me die by my own terms" he requests darkly.

Reyna glanced at Li Fengyu, she sighed at turned away again to face the brick wall, she leaned back on the hard wooden chair she was sitting on and took out her silver chain and fidgeted with it, turning and twisting it between her fingers.

’Well, I just hope none of us are the first ones to go…’ Reyna muttered to Li Fengyu quietly. ’Not very exciting for both of us right?’

Li Fengyu sighs, and leaned against the chair, facing Reyna. He then pulled out 2 elastic gloves and a surgical mask and puts them on. Gazing coldly at the crowd, while rubbing his fingertips against each other.

At this moment, Li Fengyu looked like a killer that was about to dissect a body, rather than a doctor.

He nodded silently in reply to Reyna's hopeful whispers. "No, of course not. Truly unfortunate isn't it?"

He looked at Reyna in the eye, and gave her what seemed like a smiled inside his mask, "Say, Miss Simaria.. would you like to.."

He looked at the announcer, and the Peacekeepers in the corner of his eye, seeing that nobody was paying attention to them, he looked back at Reyna and quietly muttered, "...Cooperate?

“In the Capitol, morality is often twisted and complex. Extracting blood from people against their will is already enough of a crime, especially considering the human side to things. Withholding much needed vaccinations and medicines is not a crime, yet a despicable act in its own right. Ever heard of the rich get richer, poor get poorer? It’s exactly what’s happening here, however much I don’t approve. My sister doesn’t know of this, so don’t tell her— but I ain’t exactly a saint myself. If the Capitol has deemed it fit to be selfish and greedy, then I don’t see any harm in stealing from them to help the less privileged. I suppose I have you to thank. Your medicine, helped saved the lives of several people in my village.” Lilith replies, sighing as she now plaited the doll’s hair. She fiddles with the doll for a while, before speaking again. “I would tell you I don’t fear death either, but that wouldn’t be 100% truth. I fear death only because i can’t bear to leave my sister alone. Without her I’d have nothing to live for. Everyone besides the Capitol is important to me, but losing my sister is like losing my soul.” She pauses, shaking her head. “Enough sentimentality and talk about me though. What do you mean, to let you die by your own terms?”

Reyna turned and looked at Li Fengyu, she was extremely surprised by his boldness of proposing the idea in front of the peacekeepers. She stared at him then thought about the idea, it was crazy and insane.

’let’s discuss this later, with more… privacy.’ she muttered back and pretended nothing happened.

Li Fengyu grinned widely inside his masks, he knew that he looked increasingly more and more bold and crazy by the second. But who was he to care, cause he didn't.

He has suffered the misfortune to get selected as tribute, but he wasn't the type of person to wait for death. Now that he knew the person who he most likely would be cooperating in the future is sensible, he has more confidence in his plan.

He grabs the chair by the back and sits down right next to Reyna, thus staring back at the crowd, his expression back to normal, and eyes dazed, like the usual Dr Rain seen out of work. But only does he knows that his mind is busier than ever.

If he is going to die, he might as well drag those b*stards down with him.

So, today was the Reaping Day, wasn't it? Under a new Leader too... How... Intriguing. Toi simply sat in bed for a few minutes, staring blankly at the ceiling before putting on a light smile and getting up. The woman had no particularly strong feelings about the whole ordeal, she attended this event every year when she was younger, and due to the unusual circumstances that were called the "Quarter Quell", she was being made to participate this year once again. She was perfectly fine with this though, her life as a Career had nullified her worries about participating in the games. In all honesty... She was quite excited. Sure, she was more laid-back and kind-hearted than most other Careers, but that didn't mean she didn't find interest in the Hunger Games.

Anyways, she got out of bed, brushed her hair, got herself ready and dressed, then walked out the door. All of this with a smile on her face, as carefree as she could be. The people of her district tended to look at her with kind eyes, she had made quite the reputation for herself here after all. Today was no different, even when it was the Reaping. She made her way to the crowd and waited patiently, the tension of those around her made her feel quite disheartened, as she wasn't one to be fond of a Career's excitement to participate in the games, but she made sure to maintain a smile.

". . .So... Ladies first!"

...Oh, Toi had spaced out. Was the extravagant woman on stage saying something important? Oh well, it didn't matter.

"And we have... Toi Paesiphi, the first tribute of District 2! Please make your way to the stage darling."

And so, that's what she did. It was a struggle when the younger kids were clinging onto her like she was their mother. Funny how she had a way with kids, even when this district hardly even gave their children happy lives. She was shocked to see how much of a "mother" she had become to the little children when she never saw any of that acceptance as a child, everyone seemed so serious and dead-set on having their child be a slave to the Capitol. Apparently, as much of an odd-ball as she was, the District was just happy to have her. Who knew they'd appreciate someone who was the exact opposite of what the District was so much.

It was even funnier that they assumed she was powerless too. Someone like her, someone who never showed her potential for some unknown reason, someone who was so kind and gentle, why would she have a power?

Finally, she managed to make her way to the stage, her soft and half-opened eyes matching her gentle smile as she gave a small wave to the crowd. She turned to face the woman calling the names and continued to smile, watching as the crowd's momentary confusion due to her supposed lack of any ability turned into just simple stares and smiles.

"Toi, you're on Team Red, good luck sweetie!"

The woman gave a nod before turning back to the crowd, awaiting the next name to be called. She slightly dreaded this part, because that would mean she would go against someone. The crowd would be forced to wonder who could possibly win. She all knew what they were thinking, no matter who it was, Toi would probably be the one lost to this poor game. But she was perfectly fine with that, she had no intentions of doing anything drastic anyways. As much as she wanted to survive, she knew that everyone else did too. Surviving was the name of the game after all, especially for the Careers. Toi just had to hope she wouldn't be seen as a disappointment.

...

Toi watched as the boy who was called began to sob, a tinge of sorrow flaring in her heart, but she didn't say a word. So he was one of the unfortunate ones, huh. One who didn't want to be a slave to the Capitol, train and fight like his fellow Careers. One who just wanted to live his life, like she once did. She felt bad for the kid, but didn't exactly show it.

"I volunteer! Let me go in his place."

...Oh? Well this was interesting.

She looked over at the voice that boomed out among the crowd and watched in curiosity. The man was named Ayran, the name and appearance were familiar to her. He had made quite the reputation for himself here too, didn't he? A man so awful, rumors so horrible that even the Careers were terrified. What a sight to behold. Toi always wondered what was so bad about him, but she was never able to get close. The woman had never been particularly terrified of anyone here, but the children were. They told her all sorts of rumors, all sorts of atrocities that occurred.

She smiled and gave a small wave as he came on stage, hardly having any reaction to the whole thing. So... The "angel" of the district and the "devil", how funny was this? Fate was certainly having a field day today. She already knew what the crowd was thinking, but she didn't care.

"So, Ayran, was it? Nice to meet you, I commend you for volunteering for that poor boy." She stated simply, but a sudden chill in the air fell upon the two as she spoke about the teen. The fact that she seemed so nonchalant about this was quite unnerving too. Her voice suddenly dropped to a whisper, all while maintaining that sweet smile. "I'm not going to sugarcoat things by saying we hoping we could be "friends" or something, but I do hope things don't end on a.... negative note. Good luck Ayran, may the odds ever be in your favor." She leaned away and acted like she didn't say a word, all while smiling at the crowd.

sorry this post is all over the place, i'm a bit all over the place and this probably made no sense lol. doesn't help that i'm trying a different type of character and i'm just now realizing how hard toi will be to write.

Oh, it's Reaping Day. Fun. Honestly, Alsweig was more concerned with the fact that he had opened his eyes in the morning. With a groan, he hoisted his frail body up and sat on the bed for much longer than he'd like to admit, trying not to fall asleep again.

Drip. Drip. Drip.

The smell alone shook him wide awake, his hunger flaring once again, reminding him of how long it's been since he'd actually eaten. His eyes fell to the wet puddle that seemed to consume his arm, only to stare in silence at the massive chunk of flesh ripped out. Oh.

He grumbled in annoyance as he quickly got out of bed, grabbing a towel to clean it all up and some bandages to wrap his arm in. This was almost an everyday occurrence at this point, still didn't make it any better. After everything was cleaned up, he walked out the door, only to be met with knives of pure hatred and fear glaring at him from everyone else in the district. Oh right. This is why he ever went outside.

The glares alone were agonizing enough, each and every eye bore into his skin and caused him agony, but at this point that feeling was all he knew. He pulled his hat down further and lifted his hood up to cover the rest of his head, even obscuring some of his face. He bit the inside of his lip so hard that he began to bleed, his sharp fangs easily sinking into his flesh as his body refused to listen to his commands to calm the f- down. All he could do at this point was either A) turn around like the coward he was and lock himself inside, causing a massive deal with the Peacekeepers and drawing even more attention eventually, or B) keep his head down and just deal with it, walk to The Reaping and go from there.

He chose option B.

Not once did anyone go within 10 feet of Alsweig, all of them absolutely terrified of him. They were spitting curses at him under their breath, gasping in horror upon realizing who they were staring at, hiding their children from him, everything. It was agonizing, but he eventually made it. He couldn't help but momentarily listen to the little voice in his head nagging him, repeating horrid things over and over in hopes that he would listen.

"Why not embrace it? What's stopping you? Why should you suffer when they're the ones being cruel?"

Many things were stopping him, actually. There were many reasons why he should suffer instead, actually.

But whatever, what was important was that names were being called, and the male district chosen by Lady Luck was...

Not him. It was a boy who was thin and frail, like him, but shaking in his boots, not like him. Alsweig sighed, knowing no one else would dare step up to the plate to save the poor victim of the Hunger Games, and decided to just do it himself. He was already planning to participate, rid the district of his stench for at least a little bit and actually do something for once.

With an unenthusiastic hand raise and an even duller expression, the man called out in his low and intimidating voice, one that made all eyes shoot to him once again.

"I volunteer as tribute..."

He could only hear whispers from the people around him, spitting curses and words of fear at him while all Alsweig did was slowly walk up. The sea of people split in his wake, all avoiding him like the plague while the kid on stage stared in horror and leftover fear.

"What, volunteering so you can finally show the world the monster you are? Gonna finally get the feast you've longed for your whole life? You sick freak, hope you rot in hell..." The boy muttered as Alsweig walked up on stage.

"I just saved your life kid, don't make me regret it..." He muttered back, his voice almost a growl. Alsweig still kept his head low, hands stuffed in his pockets, all before the one dressed up in an obnoxious outfit called his name and tried to jerk his hand in the air, to which he promptly yanked his arm away.

"Give it up for Alswei-"

"Dace" Alsweig snapped back, his voice barely loud enough to hear.

"...Dace Timamura! You'll be on the Blue Team, sweetie."

He groaned upon being called that, rolling his eyes as he took his place and waited for the whole thing just to be over with.

Hwa didn't really care for the games. It didn't really entice any excitement or dread, over the years it had just become another part of what it meant to be alive. So when a name that never ever belonged to anyone was called, Hwa stepped up with a bowed head. How silly, that the two who were called up were the same age, who at one point would have garnered sympathy from the masses for being picked but now they held nothing but even more apathy. Letting out a sigh, Hwa nodded towards Kaori, wishing her a good luck

Lilith's words gave Maverick strength that he didn't even realize that he had. So his vaccines had helped people in need? He grins and turns to question Lilith about her past. Then thinks better of it. He didn't want to grow too attached to her. If she died-

He inhales sharply, already dreading that possibility. He almost misses her final question to him. He simply turns away to once again stare out towards the crowd. "I simply want to give the people what they want- a good show!... Don't worry too much about it Lilith. I wouldn't dare go against you and the survivors of your team if it comes down to it. But I would like to show the Capitol members exactly how dangerous I could've been" he explains ominously.

Lilith smiles “Thank you….I wish you all the best.” Lilith’s smile is soft, even as the Peacekeepers start to yell at them to say their goodbyes and board the train. She shoves the Peacekeeper yanking her hand, causing him to yelp as he falls ungracefully to the ground. “Geez, can’t a lady walk with her own two feet without being harassed by a man? I’m not some prissy damsel in distress.” She snaps, rolling her eyes. Lilith enters the small tent, and sees Zoe, who looks devastated. “Shh…it’s okay sis…don’t cry. I’ll come back alive, I promise. Look, we don’t have much time, but I want you to take my place in the village and continue helping others, okay?” After while more, and several tearful hugs, the Peacekeepers pull them away, and Lilith heads towards the train.

Chan-Juan sneers at her district partner, waving at him dismissively. “Really? This is the best challenger you could give me?” She sighs, ignoring the Peackeepers as she hops off the stage and ignores all the Peackeepers commands, heading for the train, muttering under her breath.

Since Maverick didn't have any known family nor any real possessions to his name, he simply moves towards the train with a heavy heart. He couldn't help but feel jealous of Lilith. She had someone to fight for, all he really had was his anger. He sighs, holding a hand up to his forehead. I'm so foolish, why did I volunteer again?

A sudden shout makes him pause and turn around. A woman was running through a crowd of Peacekeepers. She shoves one away and practically falls forward, but is caught by Maverick. She clutches his shirt and stares up at him with a desperate and tearful gaze. "Thank you!" She shouts. "You saved my son's life! Thank you!" She cries. Maverick smiles and gently steadies her back onto her feet.

"It's no problem ma'am" he tells her kindly.

"Please, take this" she says while pressing something into his hand. "It's not much, but it's something to show my appreciation." A sudden burning sensation hits Maverick's throat and he glances away dismissively. He blinks away a wave of tears that threatened to spill.

"I can't accept this" he tells her while reaching his hand out to return it to her.

"Then survive long enough to return it." All around her, Peacekeepers swarmed in, grabbing her arms to drag her away. "Good luck sir! Thank you!" She calls out.

After determining that the item was safe to bring to the Games, the Peacekeepers allow Maverick to finally board the train. He glances down at the item, staring at a small silver ring. Most people would throw away the cheap thing, but Maverick, having never been allowed to own an item of his own, gratefully wore it with a small smile.

Ayran raised an eyebrow at the rather famous figure of his district. Toi Paesiphi, the so-called angel of district 2, loved by the children, and all. She was absolute the complete opposite of him, a fear of the crowds.

But that was all he knew about Toi, after all they belonged in separate crowds, and never crossed roads. Thus they never actually physically met eachother until this moment.

Without saying a word Ayran wasn't one bit fazed at Toi's attitude. After all they were just too different, but that is what makes it fun isn't it?

Ayran kept staring at Toi with a smile on his lips, he didn't bother even glancing at the crowd, knowing that they didn't want to either.

Reyna got ready and gestured to Li Fengyu to get onto the train which was waiting for them. Reyna stood up and avoided anyone else’s gaze, she stepped onto the platform and went to the district 6. Compartment.

Lumine sighed and followed to others to get onto the train to take them to the Capitol, she found her compartment and sat down by the window. She stared out at the people outside looking at the train, glad that they weren’t chosen.
