Egg Radar: The GRANNY Upgrade
Forum-Index → Suggestions → Implemented → Egg Radar: The GRANNY UpgradeI have to admit I haven't found anything similar to this via forum search,
so I'd like to suggest some kinda "new" feature for the current tall grass situation. Those of you, who had the fun with hunting legendaries, might feel the pain I do. Especially if you - like me - don't want to use some 3rd party tools or draw on paper to keep in mind where you already have searched for the egg. Anyways, I've been thinking about a small visual change that might help us to keep track but isn't destroying the tall grass feature in general. Also, in my IDEA this is an optional feature. So if the tall grass - like it is now - is exactly to your liking, you wouldn't have to change anything.
What's the idea in general?
The idea is, to make sure you realize: Hey, I've already searched this bush. So I can move on and try another one. In this example, I could only use tallgrass graphics of easy rarity of our wiki, since I have to wait for my tallgrass to be accessable 50 more minutes...*cough* >u> Let's imagine it is about the legendary tall grass field.
You visit the tall grass for the first time:
You've made your coice, sadly there wasn't an egg. So you come back as soon as the cooldown runs out and the tall grass looks like this:
Maybe you just came back the next day, because life happened. And now you can clearly see: Aaaah. See, I tried once. Ok, then i take another bush.
And after cooldown, maybe again on the next day, you visit the tall grass again:
And so on and on. That way the tall grass could be done even if you don't have the time or feel like keeping track of it yourself. After getting your egg, the dark bushes reset and turn to normal.
Ok ok, I think we got how the idea works. How could this get implemented on the site without it getting in the way of the people who like the tallgrass as it is?
Since it's not a necessary tool it could be an upgrade for our existing Egg Radar Chips of X Rarity. One idea is to make it obtainable for every rarity. What if, after you got every Egg Radar Chip, our lovely daycare owner is dragging you into another chat after visiting the tall grass for a legendary? Maybe he'd tell you something like this:
In this example you could get Egg Radar (Legendary Chip: Granny Edition Upgrade) while visiting the shop would give the chance to buy the upgrade for all other remaining rarities. So, everyone might be free to choose how they'd like to play.
In case User X decides to hit the NOPE Button, the legendary upgrade could just move to the shop. That way, if User X decides later he/she wants to have it, it is still obtainable but not for free anymore.
Info: this is by far not a perfect idea, but it might give us a chance to find a solution for this together. What do you think? Which negative aspects might appear because of this idea? Is there anything else that should be added? Or, do you think it's not a thing people should use in general? Please take your time to explain your thoughts about this.
Thanks for visiting this suggestion.
Additional adjustions for the tall grass

If an egg was found at the tall grass, while there was no free spot in the party, it could just stay there until the user grabs it. For that time it would replace the patch where it was found. That way we don't have to search the egg again.
Example for how it might look like:
Title: Easier Bug Report - 100% Support
I love how it presents the upgrade as optional, and how it only greys out the patch of grass you clicked.
Another positive to this would be easier Bug report. As of now, there is no way to report a bug in the Tall Grass since you can't prove egg was supposed to be there when you clicked patch. It happened to me, multiple times and it is beyond frustrating to get message "far away" on a patch of grass when you had "very close!" message just an hour ago right next to this one. But with this suggestion, I could just backtrack my moves and prove a bug occurred and egg moved.

It has 12x12 tiles, and 1 hour cool down. That means your egg is in one of 144 grass patches and you have to figure out where. Not only you have to remember to come back every hour, but you also have to remember where was the last time you clicked and what was the message. And now imagine you finally figured where the egg is after getting "very close" message only to get "far away". It is not challenging, it is extremely unfair. It's already challenging and time consuming enough, it wouldn't ruin the feature.
Your comparison to concentration game makes no sense. You don't hunt legendaries there, it's very easy to get egg, there is no 1h cool down, cards don't move, if you make a mistake it won't cost you time, and if there is a bug, you'd be able to screenshot it.
Tall grass feature is flawed, and worst part is not being able to report the bug. This would solve that problem.
@cosmixx thanks for your feedback! I think the fact that you point out this things is a good reason to talk about the tall grass in general.
If we all are brutally honest, then the process of picking a patch in the tall grass is not a challenge at all. We visit the site, pick a patch and hope for the best. That's it. No brainpower needed, not even strategy, nor something else. It's a fact that if you are a lucky person, or just persistent, you'll get an egg. Sooner or later. Right?
What makes this whole topic a challenge, is the fact that we're all using the tall grass in a different way (rarity, visiting it just a couple times a day and so on) so, the only component that makes the tall grass unbearable right now, is not the process of visiting and picking a patch, but the time it takes to get the egg in general. I think the cool down timer of the different rarities shouldn't be touched at all, to guarantee it is still not easy - you should spend some time to get a legendary egg. But as a person that can't camp at the tall grass for multiple days in a row without a break, I think it would be more fair to make sure you don't have to pick a patch twice. Because at this point this would mean you get punished for being not as active as other players, who are able to keep in mind which patches they picked because they are able to do that all day long.
But let's keep in mind we're all different. That's why I think this has to be an optional feature. People should be able to decide for themself how they want to play the tall grass search.

May the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary both be ever honored, blessed and adored!
And yes @gorgon, I know it isn’t that easy. I’ve tried to do that in my Torchic hunt and it barely helped because I used a “program” that was supposed to help, but closing the tab made me lose my progress, and it’s difficult to match exactly where the patch you clicked is.
@BitterLemon I do agree that it is slightly unfair, but at least it gives you a hint. I remember doing a honedge hunt in a 4x4 I believe, and it said that the egg was far away. I clicked the other side after the cool down and it said that the egg was also far away. Also, I was using the concentration game as an example, I wasn’t applying this exact suggestion to my statement. Yes, I know that we don’t hunt legendaries there and yes I do know that it’s easy to get an egg, cards don’t move, mistakes won’t cost time, and about the lack of a cool down. To be honest, I have just as much trouble with the tall grass that I do with the concentration game. That is why I used it as an example.
many users already use excel or other programms as a helper for the tall grass and its not that hard to do so...
in theory we could go even further and mark all the bushes that are taken out by the text (like everything thats not "very close" when the egg is supposed to be "very close") but thats up for discussion.
So as you might see, in general i totally support that idea, but would totally add one small other thing:
Please mark already found eggs! (which cant be adopted because of a full party) they have already been found and therefore the "challenge" is already done). Alternatively we could get the chance to clear one spot in our party when we find an egg to adopt it without having to "search" again.
