Cataneme released a very high squeaking sound, her face very close to DD and poking her cheek as she chewed the marshmallow. "You look so adorable when smiling! I think you love them! Wait, hold this!" Without hesitation, she just handed DD her torch and pulled out two crackers, making a small marshmallow biscuit sandwich before trading the sweet treat with the torch. "Try that!"

DD flushed a little at being called out for her smile. She hated herself for showing weakness... She didn't have much time to wallow in the feeling as she was handed the torch from the daughter of Achyls, only for that to be snatched away and replaced with a s'mores minus the chocolate. She was hesitant, but allowed herself to bite into the new treat. "Not bad." she thought as she ate the treat. Swallowing it, she spoke, "Thank you, Miss...?" she paused, allowing a moment for the daughter of Achyls to speak, perhaps to speak her name.

Cataneme paused for a second, her gaze just screaming "please wait while the answer is loading" before she snapped back. "Cataneme, mistress of fire!" She laughed, playing with her torch and swaying it around like a child. "I only know your initials though, what is your name, D-squared?"

DD paused. Did she dare tell her adoptive name? With a sigh, she decided to tell it, as a way to humanize herself with the other demigods. "My... adoptive name is Emika. Though I prefer to go by DD. Nice to meet you, Cataneme." She was surprised by her own honesty. Perhaps she would be able to- "As is that will happen, my Darling. The moment they find the truth about you, your little 'friendship' will be over!" This caused DD to stiffen. Of all times, she chose to speak now?! She forced herself to relax, to not inform the others of her inner dilemma...

Cataneme was confused, the stiffness of DD was something she could see but also something she knew from the time before. Thinking a little to remember what helped back then, she rummaged through her bag and pulled out another sweet: Turkish Delights! (small gummy squares) Using a move that can only be described as "a contortionist's nightmare", she suddenly hugs DD from behind and drops a few Delights down her throat. "This should do the trick!"

DD almost panicked. In her stiff self dilemma, she was suddenly grabbed from behind and something popped into her mouth. She had mere seconds before- The stuff in her mouth was sweet... Not syrupy sweet, like many sleepy drugs, but candy sweet. She took a moment to assess the situation and calm herself. She wasn't being attacked... She wasn't being restrained... She was being hugged... By Cataneme... The stuff in her mouth must have been some sort of candy... She swallowed the candy once it was soft and small enough to not cause choking. She took a breath and carefully unwrapped Cataneme's arms from around her. Holding the girl's hands, she spoke, "I'm terribly sorry you had to witness that..."

Dezerae's loud voice suddenly called over the group, disrupting any moments more tender than one would find at a professional drama. Their weights were gone, likely stashed in the duffel on their back. They wore a smile, padding a towel across their forehead to wipe away the sweat that had built up there. "Alright! Now we only need one more!" Their gaze turned towards the horizon, as if expecting to see Fallon come trotting gloomily over at any moment. Not seeing her after a few moments, Dezerae sighed, wiping down their face again then patting their neck with the towel, their skin gleaming like bronze from the leftover condensation, the rising sunlight making them seem as though they were made of gold, between their tan and the previously mentioned sweat. Dezerae managed to maneuver their duffel bag to the front of their chest, the carrying strap still over their shoulders, and stowed the towel away, sighing contentedly. Replacing the duffel to it's proper place, Dezerae inserted themselves into the group, their grin still wide. Thankfully, they didn't rest their arms on anybody's shoulders, but they gladly crossed their arms, their grin turning into a smug smile.

...

What could they be thinking?

Quinn looked over towards Cataneme and DD, who he had recently learned that they also took the name Emika. He gave a subtle smile their way ashe silently watched, listening in on their fun. Besides, it was a great opportunity to learn more about them. Seeing everyone talking among themselves in a seemingly happy manner gave him some hope for the quest, easing him a little. It almost made him forget about his worries, but he knew they still reseted in his head, waiting for the perfect moment to strike once again and ruin his mood. Right now, on that note, he was praying to every god he could think of that this quest would go well, more than he ever thought he would. Even though his mother left a good impression on him for what the gods were like, coming to this camp long ago made it obvious that it wasn't common for the gods to be kind.

Cat's silly yet cheerful behavior amused Suvansh greatly. What did not amuse him is getting to know that DD's name was actually Emika, and not that DD were her initials. When he met her, he just took onto call her what everyone called her. He never bothered to ask her her name, and she never bothered to offer it to him. Dezerae's sudden appearance gave him a shocker, but he nodded as they noted, one person to go. As he had to kill time, waiting for Fallon, Suvansh sat down where he was, on the ground, and took out his spectacle attachments, fidgeting with em.

Giving the gathered group a almost shy wave to the gathered campers, he was about to greet them when the appearance of Chiron. The games director smiled kindly at the assembled quest goers, an almost sad look crossing his face. "Is everyone here?" He asked, counting the members of the quest. "I hope that you are all prepared. Quests are rarely as easy and straightforward as you may think." It was a cryptic warning, but still the group would be foolish to not heed it.

And just like that, the quest had begun. Like a pack of unruly cats, the campers were herded towards the exit. The moment anyone stepped beyond the borders, however, a blast of freezing cold wind chilled them to the bone. So uncharacteristic was this sort of weather, that one would assume that they were in the middle of winter and not during the summer. Alaparos, who had never had that chance to experience any weather below zero, actually screamed at the frozen winds and froze in place, teeth chattering. No one had even remotely dressed for the weather.

Dd shivered at the blast of cold air. "This is not right." she thought to herself as her arms wrapped themselves around her body in an attempt to contain any warmth. "Is this...a result of the hearth's disappearance??" She suddenly realized that no one had thought about the consequences of the hearth's disappearance on the mortal world. What was happening outside of the camp???

"Who knows, weather is a moody gal sometimes. Or most of the time, though I'd understand!" Cataneme popped up, suddenly wrapped in a blanket and looking like an animated burrito more than human. Hopping a bit forward, she shivers, her cheeks turning red from the cold. "The faster we leave, the quicker we get out of this cold though. Where to, Ally?" She hops and turns to Alaparos.

Dezerae jumped like they'd been jabbed in the side when the wind blew against the group. Almost instantly, they started slapping themselves across their arms, legs, neck, and chest, then started to jog in place, bouncing from foot to foot. "Gods almighy holy shi-.. Err, holy... Crap. Yeah.. Anyways, that was.. Sudden, chilly, and overall shocking. Did anybody bring a bag of longer or heavier clothes? This tank-top is really thin, and these shorts don't do much for body heat." They started to rub their arms with a vengeance, their teeth gritted. "And does anybody want to start jogging in place so I don't look like an idiot? It'll help, I promise!" They barked out a laugh, slowly trying to adjust to the cold. Judging by their shivering and complaining, it wasn't going well.

Quinn was probably the most well dressed person there, which was worrying because all he had on were jeans, a thin shirt, and a not very insulated jacket. "Dammit it's cold!" He accidentally shouted out, immediately bundling his limbs together to keep in his body heat. He looked around and noticed everyone else had the same reaction. Sure, they were in Long Island, but wasn't it only June? It's not like they lived further south in the U.S., where weather was vastly unpredictable, but could it have something to do with the hearth?

Alaparos looked grim, teeth sinking into his lip as he worried it. However, he didn't say anything, only sliding his backpack off his shoulders. From it, he procured rolled up blankets which he passed to each camper to warm themselves with. It wasn't much but at least it kept most of the chill away. When Alaparos became the unofficial leader, he didn't know. Glancing at Cat a little wearily, he turned to see the others also looking to him for instructions. All of them seemed to be thinking if it was the result of the Hearth but truthfully, he had none of the answers. He was just as lost as the rest of them, but at least he had priorities. "First things first, we get ourselves better clothes." He spoke, eyeing the t-shirts that they were all wearing. "Then we're going to pay Hades a little visit."

Immediate regret washed over Suvansh's eyes as he stepped out of the border, having decided not to take the jacket with him to save space. The weather at the camp was controlled all year long, and thus different from the rest of the world, so none of them noticed it so earlier, but it didn't make sense- what? And how? It literally wasn't possible, the temperature going subzero in July! He thanked Al gratefully as he passed him the blanket, and asked, "So are we going back to camp? I am pretty sure all of us must have the necessary clothes in our cabins?" He asked, as it was so for him. The part about visiting Hades gave him goosebumps, but also gave him a rush of adrenaline.

He gratefully took the blanket Alaparos handed him and bundledup with it, now snug enough to keep himself from shaking uncontrollably. He did have to wonder what he meant by getting better clothes, were they going back to their cabins, or were they going shopping at a nearby convenience store? If they were going back to camp, his wardrobe would be quite the issue. He didn't exactly have any warm clothes, since he was planning to head back home when winter hit. On the other hand, they were limited in money and time, so going shopping was a little risky. His mood completely changed when Alaparos mentioned Hades, giving him a rush of fear but also excitement. "Sounds fun, exactly what I signed up for!" he said with a grin, but it was hard to finish te look when he was wrapped in a blanket as tightly as he could be.

Cataneme did not bother with the cold. Not only did she have a blanket already in her bag, a minor precaution from her caretakers, but sleeping in an unheated room for a few years does build up some resistance to the cold. Nevertheless, she took a blanket from Al and made herself a turban out of it, wiggling her eyebrows a little. "So, get clothes... and then Hades? You mean the "lord of the underworld" and "misunderstood villain"-kinda Hades? Oooh, can't wait!" Cat hopped in place a little excitedly, being quite happy and still lively in this frozen place.

DD thought for a moment before speaking. "It may be wise to inform Chiron about what is happening, as well as change into something better suited for this kind of weather." she said, gesturing to the group as a whole. None of them were ready for this weather, aside from those who currently wrapped themselves in blankets. Especially if this weather would be the way it is for most of their quest....

Why was he the leader now? Just because he suggested going to Hades didn't mean he wanted to lead this group! Burying his face in his hands, he groaned before hiking up his backpack. "Right, let's go talk with Chiron." He grumbled, moving to push past the rest. He delighted in using his cane to knock against the knees of anyone who wasn't wise enough (or fast enough) to get out of the way and made his way back to camp before a furious screech had him jump.

From the sky, a mass of feathers swooped down; claws outstretched and bloodlust glimmering in beady black eyes. The monster was easily larger than any regular bird as it screeched again, swiping at Alaparos who barely ducked out of the way, rolling on his shoulder and a very loud expletive. With a thud, the bird spread its massive wings with a caw, the sound alone weakening knees and inspiring terror. Between them and the entrance to camp was a massive bird with transfixed eyes and a rapacious beak, grayish white wings settling down to rest between the bird's back. The rest of its body was cloaked in darkness, making it difficult to discern exactly what kind of creature it exactly was.
