Maybe it's just me but I think a small index number indicating how many new messages you've got would be really helpful at times - similar to the index number the notifications icon has ( and so on)

It's just that sometimes I don't have the time to read a message or simply don't feel like replying to someone's message right away (because I know it's just some simple chat message of a friend that doesn't require prompt action or something like this), so I often do not read those messages instantly, which lets me keep the message icon in my status bar - as a reminder for my forgetful mind. :P But. The thing is that I don't get to see when there are additional new messages coming in that may be important .. In those cases, a small index number would be a nice thing to have. :3

I know I suck at explaining but I think you get what I'm trying to say, right?

Also the message system could use a revamp but that's something for another suggestion. :'D

Complete support for me. Especially since I will hold off on replying to some messages until I'm in a mood to handle them, and I then miss pms from friends because of it.

Seems I missed this thread before. Full support!

This could even help with setting priorities when you have multiple unread PMs. I usually have PH open in 2+ tabs doing different things; so I might be replying to a chat PM in one tab and clicking or whatever in the other. If this suggestion was implemented, I'd see in the clicking tab that there's something new, so I'd check it out and might decide to reply to the new PM first. As things currently are, I'd take my time with the chat PM not knowing there's something more urgent.

Support, 100%, for previous reasons stated! Diana's addition to the suggestion is a good one, as well.

Having a counter would be really useful; I always avoid having multiple, active conversations through PMs for fear that I might miss one. And as stated before, it'd be very nice to know if you've received any new messages since the mail icon first appeared. :d
