It was that time of year again, Memoria sighed lazily swimming in place. The time when merfolk were sent up to the surface to live and decide if they wanted to stay in the ocean or not. Every guppies fantasy. Just a few moments earlier, she had sent out messenger fish to each one of the merfolk assigned to her for the moth to meet her at the coral reef. There they would begin their journey.

Zexion was floating near the surface when a small angelfish bumped it's nose against his side making his snort in laughter. Flipping over to see, Zexion picked the fish up gingerly and noticed the seaweed wrapped around it's torso. Unraveling it, he read the message from Memoria, sighing in the process. "Show time " he smiled faintly to the fish before his powerful tail propelled him forward and to the coral reefs

Another day, another hour of sitting in a boring class. Eraqus yawned into his hand as he watched over the beach. His job didn't start until the afternoon so he a bit of free time to kill. The ocean had always been a comfort for him so he sat down on the hill overlooking the rolling waters.

Hood pulled up to conceal his identity, Semi talked to venders in low tones, punctuating each words with a hand gestures. It was fruitless anyways. Having asked around yesterday and the day before as well, Semi knew that his search would be fruitless. Slumping his shoulders at yet another negative response, Semi wondered if it was time to move to a different city and try his luck there

Her face contorted with regret as she swam further from her favourite freshwater pool and into the ocean. The increasing concentration of salt was not so much bothersome to her, but rather a reminder that there wouldn't be anything in her interest, plant-wise, for her to study. Corali had grown somewhat fond of the lotus flowers that bloomed on the surface of 'her' pool. Now older, she no longer felt restricted to stay surrounded by the bland seaweeds and kelp, and her desire to explore surface life continued to grow.

Therefore, Cora almost immediately jumped at the chance to explore the surface as she was met by the messenger fish. She would then begin to make her ways back to the ocean and towards the reef, but not before saying farewell to the pink lotuses~

Athanasia was woken up from a nap when a pair of clownfish gently bopped her on the forehead, eliciting a chuckle from the tiny mer. She thanked the two for the note, and as they swam away, she opened the note addressed in vibrant green ink to her. As she read the contents, her heart sank. She was one of the mermaids being sent to the surface. Her mother Prosperine was already worried sick as her younger sister Cyrene had not come home after she had been sent. Whatever had happened, she would never know. For all the fae knew, Cyrene was dead or she had found some handsome human to kiss her. Reluctantly, she got up from her bed of seaweed and made the small trip to the coral reef. The young fae was 12, and no doubt the youngest of the group.

Zari was taking a short walk on the beach with a towel in hand, She always takes a short walk before jumping into the ocean for her morning swim. And she is just about to finish her walk

Darting into the reefs, Zexion slipped behind Memoria with a thin smile. "Present." He chirped before ducking behind another coral to hide away from the others. He was painfully shy like that sometimes. Memoria in the other hand sighed fondly and mentally ticked Zexion off her list.

Eraqus was bored damn it. Something just didn't feel right today. He could see someone walking on the beach and recognized the person who came down for a swim often. Come to think of it, he never talked to her before... Huh today would remedy that. Picking himself up and dusting dried grass off his butt, Eraqus jogged down to the shoreline.

Antha, more anxious than she had ever been in her life, swam around before turning to Memoria. The tiny mermaid couldn't keep a quaver out of her voice, even though she usually had on a bold facade, the prospect of human life — and possibly meeting a nasty fate — were in no way appetizing for the fae. "Do you know when we will be moving on?" she asked in a sweet and tremulous voice, "All this waiting is getting my nerves up." She tried to smile, but it felt extremely forced.

After only a few stops to investigate some strange looking marine flora, Corali was finally able to make it swiftly to the agreed meeting place: at the reef. It had been quite a while since she’d visited this particular area, coral wasn’t particularly her thing. Or, at least, didn’t score too highly when it came to her top interests, which was (of course) dominated by botany. A couple of others, however, already appeared to be present. She composed herself, removing a stray strand of seaweed from her hair before slowly swimming over to the group she would be with for the next month.

“Apologies, I’m not late, am I?”

"Antha, Corali welcome. You're not late at all I assure you. We are still waiting for Leven. Although given his unwillingness to come, it's not that surprising." Chuckling to herself, Memoria pointed upwards with her fin. "How about you youngun's go up first? Get your first real taste of the surface. Once Leven comes, we'll join you and I'll give you your legs."

Jobbing towards Zari, Eraqus grinned and waved. "Hi there!" He said cheerfully, blushing slightly when his brain realized that she was about to strip and go for a swim. "I-im not interrupting anything am I?"

"Ah, no thank you. I didn't bring anything to swim in and I'd hate to go to class dripping wet." Eraqus chuckled shaking his head. "Do you do this often? I've seen you around before but we've never talked." Wait. That sounded awfully like a pickup line .... Internally cursing himself for sounding like a Playboy or a desperate high schooler, Eraqus smiled nervously. Damn it girls were hard to talk to

"I usually spend most of my time marking papers." He chuckled almost bashfully. "So I don't have that much free time. But when I do the beach is where I go. The waves always calm me down especially after midterms or finals."

“Yes ma’am,” Corali nods firmly.

Without further warning, she eagerly propels herself upwards, leaving a current of bubbles to trail behind her. Using the flickering sunlight as her guide, she makes it to the surface. Allowing only her eyes to peer over the ripples of the water, she glances around at her surroundings with nothing immediately causing her much concern. Sure, she had heard of the stories about merfolk going missing during their visit to the surface. And, because of that, she would undoubtedly remain cautious during her time there.

"oh, uh I'll uh I'll " stammering with his face beet red, Eraqus ducked to the other side and pressed his back to it to avoid seeing Zari. Groaning as he dragged his hands in front of his face, Eraqus checked his phone and concluded that he still had plenty of time before class even started.

Following Corali shyly, Zexion broke the surface, letting his head bob easily on the water. "it's safe?" He offered to Corali with a shy smile. "Are you excited?"

She nodded and propelled herself to the ocean surface. Her home was very deep down, so it was quite the swim upwards. She broke upwards for her first real gulp of air. Her eyes feasted on the surface, taking in everything that the humans had to enjoy. It was so...different from what she was used to. Granted, she knew a few things—sand, grass, etc. She hovered near Zexion and Coralli since she was quite scared. Kids always were scared of what they didn't know, and she was no exception.

Had she been unaware of her company, Corali was slightly startled but was quick to re-straighten her face. The male besides her: she could only recall seeing maybe once or twice before, yet had been quick to note his shy nature. Missing his first question, she huffed a response to his second as an attempt to hide her embarrassment.

“I suppose so. I-I mean- uh... I’m only excited to see the new variety of plants.”

Cora turns ever so slightly. Her crimson eyes, matching the shade of her submerged cheeks, stare up at him, “How about you? Excited?”

"Sorry." He chuckled, climbing up onto the rock to sit on it. Huh he could kind of see the appeal of a girl in a swimsuit but unfortunately that wasn't up his alley. "The water seems calm today." He observed offhandedly

"A bit. I like the sea but someone needs to keep this little safe." He admitted, turning to predicably find Athanasia behind them. "She's shy like me."
