I've noticed that after I started an Orthworm chain by hatching two Orthworm from the Gem Collector, ay Orthworm hatched from the Tall Grass event count towards the Orthworm chain, increasing the chain number. The Orthworm don't count towards any other chain other than itself.

The image below is my chain, which at the moment of this post, says I have a chain of 4, when in reality, I should have a chain of 2.

I will be breaking the chain immediately as to not take advantage of this in the event that it IS a bug.

EDIT: fixed spelling mistake in the title

I'm not entirely sure this is a bug?
It says that Orthworm won't break your chain, not that they won't count for an existing Orthworm chain [through DayCare/Gem Collector].
As far as I know, only a frozen chain will actively ignore every Egg.

The same thing happened/was possible with Tadbulb and nothing was done against it then.
I'll contact Riako about this, to make sure.

Also on past tall grass events (example scavenger hunt), It was said that the eggs wont break your chain, but if you are already hunting the requested pokemon it will count

Quote from Scavenger huntEggs of those Pokémon species will not count towards your PokéRadar during this event if they are adopted from the Tall Grass.
Exeption: If you are hunting one of those before the event started or if your PokéRadar is running without a recorded species yet it will count.

As I mentioned, I asked Riako and he confirmed this is not a bug. Any Orthworm Eggs from the Tall Grass will count for your chain. (if you started an Orthworm chain through DayCare/Gem Collector first).

Well they started a chain even though you said they wouldn’t and now I don’t know what to do to stop it and make it count my Sandygast I was trying to hunt instead

My Sandygast eggs are going to be wasted and it looks like the shiny boosts I was supposed to have for the Orthworm were sabotaged too and that’s probably why I never hatched any except for the guaranteed one

Everyone here said it would count for your chain, just not break an existing one.

Gosth even quoted from a similar previous event that it would start a new chain, if none are active.

We NEVER said it wouldn't start a chain, we only ever said it wouldn't break one.

Not hatching a shiny is not a bug, just bad luck.

No, you said that Orthworm eggs from the tall grass would only count for a chain “if you started an Orthworm chain through DayCare/Gem Collector first”

The official wording from the event page is:

Quote from Rowans LabThis event lasts until March 12th, 10:00AM. Orthworm eggs obtained from the Tall Grass during the event period will not break your PokeRadar chain.

And from the news post:

Quote from News postIn this type of event, Orthworm eggs obtained from the Tall Grass will not break your PokeRadar chain.

And this is exactly how the event behaves.

arguably, the info is buried in the wiki and ambiguous if we're even having this bug report; i'm not sure if most users will know that this event is called a scavenger hunt?

Is your response referring to my post? Because I wasn't quoting the wiki, I was quoting the news post on the front page and the text it said in Prof. Rowan's Lab. Both of which are the only official sources describing how the event works.

Yes, but if the wiki includes the clarification I think this info should be included in the original event info
