The Icon will disable in 1 day or there could be a new setting where you can set the time for disappearance of the Icon.

Q. Use of these feature?
Ans. These feature will make Dex Completion a lot easy as currently especially during adopting random eggs from lab when you hatch a mon, sometimes you are not sure if the mon is in your dex or not then you have to check the Dex manually which is time consuming and annoying or even sometimes you think I got these mon in my Dex so you release it but it's actually not.
Q. If there will be a setting for the duration of the "New Icon", where would it be?
Ans. Settings => Gameplay => Under General Gameplay

Edit: I would also like an option to disable it completely though. For example, if I have completed a dex already but released mons from it, I don't want them to pop up as new if I hatch it again

Good idea, I won’t really be affected by that. I rarely adopt lab eggs and if I do, I don’t really care what hatched from them. I also don’t know how should it be done, to only show pokemon hatched for the first time, that you don’t have. If it would just check for eggdex entry, here would be „new” icon on pokemon that you already have, but don’t have thier eggdex entry.
I also think there should be option to disable it, there are people who wouldn’t want to see it on pokemon profile and other places.

honestly, i never though of that, but i would love it. one thing though, would it include new forms/variations as new pokemon? ex: the colors of core form minior?

"The New Icon" will only apply to Pokemons which are not in your Dex, if you had a Pokemon but you released/sold/traded it then afterwards you hatched the same pokemon from the egg it will come with "The New Icon"
E.g. You had only one Spheal, you sold/released/traded it. After some time or days you got a Spheal egg from Lab/Gem Collector it will pop up with the "The New Icon"

It's only works on mons. When new hatch a new mon out of a egg it will show up
