Shurkul

Eh? Of course alcohol was great! Kids couldn't drink water. Water was bad, it made you sick. So unfair.

"Give the kid some ale," he suggested loudly. "Nice and weak, and we can talk about the meal imma buy for him!" Shurkul beamed at her, and felt for his wallet.

It was gone.

[I am severely sleep deprived please help me]

"Huuuuuh? Why not? I can show you my very legal and definitely not forged Alcohol Trading License that I used to enter Briar Glen. If it changes your mind, of course~," Arioch said to Faelan.

Buy me a meal? Heh. The orc is a nice change of pace after staying in the Asteriinyx chasms for way longer than expected. I might even change my opinion on orcs, I guess.
...
Now go drink something to refresh yourself. Apple juice will be just fine.

A merchant's license? When Raziel was about to travel he had made sure the path wasn't given any travel restrictions so the sudden order for such a pass gave him a slight surprise. Still, he was well-prepared for such occasions and reached for his satchel, which not only has the merchants license for the three, only god knows how and why Raziel got them so quickly, but also so many other permits that the guards would literally have no other questions regarding the boy's allowance to leave the outer borders.

Until his fingers couldn't find the smooth leather of the satchel beside his horse that was supposed to be attached to the saddle. His hands swiped at every corner, trying to find his bag of important notes and documents. Try as he might, however, the bag was clearly not there. Had he forgotten it? Did he leave it behind in the town during the rush?

"Looking for something?"

Raziel turned as Asmodeus made himself known, his ghostly white skin almost shining under the sunlight as so his bloody eyes. With a smile, he lifted the satchel up in one of his hands.

"You dropped this," he giggled menacingly.

Asmodeus had expected the boy to look frightened like he normally did now that he's revealed himself. But, my, is that a look of anger on his face? A façade of bravery? Looks like the boy suddenly steeled up now, seemingly trying to act like he's not scared anymore. It was hilarious. He probably felt safe with the number of armed men behind him, though their loyalty to protecting citizens of Briar Glen was still questionable.

Asmodeus still noticed the boy shaking in his boots, though. It was pleasantly funny that Raziel was still terrified even though he was a good distance away. How cute.

"Give me that satchel, Asmodeus," Raziel hissed lowly, surprising the man. Asmodeus grinned.

"The kitten's trying to act like a lion, I see?" he joked as he stepped closer to Raziel, who stood his ground even as the gap between the two became only half an arm's length away. "I'll give it back to you, but with a condition," he smiled. Raziel looked rather hesitant but slowly nodded.

"And that is?" he asked, a little shakily. With an arm extended Asmodeus stated his side of the deal.

"Let me join your group," he answered, earning a shocked face from the boy.

"Why?" he asked, surprised and very much concerned. Asmodeus hummed.

It's definitely not because he wanted it to be easier to track the boy so he can kill him whenever he feels like it. No, definitely not. He just wanted to get to know his prey before he sucks the life out of them later on. It makes the death more memorable.

"Think of it, having the power of 100 men at your side. That's me, why would you turn down the offer?" Asmodeus said. "I'm just feeling nice today, that's all," he added. "You either take it and get going or ditch it and go back. Either way you'll still end up dying so better choose your final moments wisely, boy" Asmodeus teased darkly, sending visible shivers down the boy's body. After minutes of hesitation, Raziel gave in with a sigh.

"Fine," he stated. "But if you dare hurt these other two people with me, I won't let you live another day," he threatened. Asmodeus cackled. Oh, how adorable.

"Yeah, yeah. Don't worry boy, you're the only one I'm interested in~" he playfully joked as he threw the satchel back at the stunned Raziel and walked in front of him. "Anyways, that aside," he started looking at the men blocking them with the most sinister look, one hand waving their license while the other fiddling with a dagger he took out.

"Surely you'd let us through don't you? We have the permits and all. Boy even made sure to cover every single license he could think of," he said. "As for me, I don't need a permit, I'm sure you know that," he continued. Some of the armored men started snickering at the back. Oh, what was Asmodeus going to do against an army with protection, numbers, swords, and spears? Hehe, how funny.

They have yet to see the true power he can unleash.

Shurkul

"Ooo, that sounds illegal." Shurkul paused, realizing that the last time he said that, he got stabbed in the gut three times and thrown down a well. "Er- not that I'd report you or anything."

Raziel and the Gang...

"This foolish child..." a large man in the back sneered, raising his sword.

But the man in the front swept out his arm and the man stopped. His eyes didn't move from Asmodeus' face. "Is that a threat?" he asked calmly. "Are you threatening harm to myself and my men, should we not let you and the rest through?"

"Course he is!" Suko bounced up to Asmodeus' side. She gave him a cocky grin and nudged his arm. "You've got another thing coming if you mess with us! No siree, there ain't anyone here you can take." Her eyes twinkled. "As far as your masters gotta know, their dogs found nothin' but a herd of wild dogs, ready to rip y'all to bits if you tried anything!"

"Is that so?" the man murmured, his eyes not leaving Asmodeus. "Then please present your paperwork. All of you."

Suko frowned as if that wasn't what they wanted to hear. But when she turned to Raziel, she was grinning. "Let's get them their bone," she declared. "Throw it out and distract 'em."

Hopefully, she meant that in a figurative sense.

Well, this orc's interesting. I could use him to do some...very questionable stuff for me.

I bet I could get him to spill some important information if I get him drunk. Because orcs definitely always carry important government secrets. Definitely.

Arioch then proceeded to sit down next to the orc in an impossibly cute way, because the person writing this post needs a dose of sleep.

"I mean the army or whatever that enforces illegal entry probably doesn't get paid enough to care, so it's not like reporting me'll do anything~ Speaking of alcohol..."

He thought for a while. "Let's drink until we die of liver failure~! Because by 'we' I, of course, mean 'you', heheh~"

Congratulations for being actually convincing, Arioch, because by 'actually convincing', I most definitely mean 'completely and utterly unconvincing'.

Gosh, I'm so mean to myself~

Raziel was about to warn Suko about getting too close to Asmodeus but the words wouldn't leave his mouth. If anything, a smile spread on the man's face as they nudged their arm against his playfully, though Raziel couldn't tell if it was his usual sinister grin or a different emotion.

Did he see a look of longing in the murderous man's eyes? Surely he was only imagining it right?

"Order from the General. Your license," came a stern command from one of the men which brought back the seriousness in the group. Raziel hurriedly searched through his satchel of papers and grabbed the three documents out and handed it over. The man skimmed over it, counted it then faced towards Asmodeus, challenged by the other man's bloody eyes. The atmosphere suddenly grew cold, Raziel gulped.

This wasn't going to end well, was it?

The man looked, almost glared, at Asmodeus, who couldn't give a damn. He well knew what the soldier wanted, but it wasn't as if a criminal would even have the rights to live outside in the streets, let alone have a permit to leave the borders. Though, he secretly wondered how Raziel got the papers so quickly for the three, under a short notice too. He pondered about it curiously, almost forgetting the situation at hand. Maybe he could ask the boy later? While he could certainly manage around without one, his life could be made easier if...

"Your license," the soldier repeated, more fiercely this time. Asmodeus let out a scoff as he crossed his arms.

"Look, I'm not like the lot of you. I'm a free bird, unrestrainable by the rules. I don't need a god damn paper to let me do whatever I please," Asmodeus replied, an eyebrow raised at the man. He could hear Raziel let out an audible sigh at the back as he rubbed his nose bridge nervously. The man, on the other hand, didn't show any sign of budging. If anything, he drew his blade, causing the boy behind him to let out a frightened yelp. He could hear the boy's trembling hand holding the hilt of his rapier, the contact of the shaky blade and it's intricate sheath producing little cllinks. Asmodeus knew Raziel was trying to prepare for the worst case scenario, but his stance was anything but pitiful to see. Who would even be threatened at the sight? Asmodeus criticised about the poor presentation silently to himself.

It was also silly of the boy to think the man couldn't fend for himself. Does he really think lowly of him?

Next thing Asmodeus knew, he was met with a blade pointing straight at his face, though he seemed quite unfazed. Being on the brink of death multiple times really made the threat of the sharp blade quite dull, almost a pebble compared to the other things he's been through. Oh those were good times weren't they...

"I will not repeat again. Failure to follow the General's commands will result in arrest or otherwise instructed. Show your license now," the soldier growled.

"If you value your life so much, I'd highly suggest you'd back off," Asmodeus challenged, the sword blade was brought closer until the tip of the cold metal touched the pale skin of his throat.

"That's it, get on your knees with your hands up," the man said, pushing the blade slightly until he managed to get a small, drop of red liquid.

Asmodeus's next moves were swift, giving no time for reaction. His hands reached for one of his blades, tipped with an ominous black liquid, the dagger almost dancing on the tips of his fingers as he pierced the unprotected spot on the man's armour. His free hand, gripped the sword and his inhumane strength managed to toss the weapon away. Eyes burning with rage, he hissed. He muttered the command quickly and felt the soul power surge through his right arm holding the dagger. He found the thread, the link to the man's soul and reached for it.

"Make me," he dared before the soldier's body became disfigured and distorted, bent in abnormal positions and eventually erupted, leaving nothing of the man but a puddle of blood. The dagger dropped to the floor letting out a red glow. Try as he might to hide it, he let out a visible flinch as the impact of the spell got to him. He could tell his right arm was badly injured, again, for the millionth time. A quick glance confirmed it, the sleeves long gone along with the soldier's ashes revealing his bruised arm and the soul water tattoo hidden underneath.

But the injuries were nothing uncommon. He could handle them. He looked back at Raziel, his head starting to fog from the effects of using so much soul power. Even if he hated this, he knew he wasn't fit to fight anymore. With a magic count just barely enough to do the spell once, and even that had grave consequences on his body, he knew his limits. He knew when to retreat even if his pride would poke at him later on.

"We're leaving. Now." Asmodeus stated. Raziel looked at the man with genuine concern.

"Asmodeus-" he started but he was quickly yanked onto the horse by the man, along with Suko, and a quick kick to the side sent the horse on a fast gallop, reaching and pulling the reins on the other two belonging to Suko and Erika along the way as he forced them to follow lead. He knew the woods just as well as Raziel did and took a detour route towards their destination, one that was quite dangerous it would be difficult to traverse on foot in a large group. While it wouldn't stop the army, it would at least stall them for a good amount of time. He felt Raziel's grip on his back tighten as the boy tried to take in what just happened.

"You.... you're putting us in real trouble you know that?" Razial pointed out grimly. Asmodeus smiled his usual teasing grin as he looked back, ignoring the searing pain coursing through his entire body.

"What can I say?" he laughed. "You're dancing with the devil, so hold tight," he added as they continued their journey through the dense woods

Suko Nobu

It all happened so fast. The man. Blood trickling down her new friend's neck. And then, he plunged a blade into the man in a flash of red-

And then the man exploded like a firework.

She stumbled back, cursing and doing her best to shield her coat. But when she lifted her arms, she saw many little red drops, interdisperced with white ones-

If they were going to throw up, now was the time to do it.

The whole world had gone completely silent. Not a mouse moved. Not a man spoke. Of mice and men, is that how the rhyme goes? Of mice and men, the silence of death will always be the same.

Only the General moved. He walked towards them, unsheathing his sword. She watched, hypnotized as those enormous, bloody hands clenched around the hilt-

Then arms hooked around Suko's midsection and she was thrown backwards. She seized a body in front of her- Body, body, body- And then, they were off.

"You crazy!" Suko yelped. "What'd you do that for?! They're gonna chase us to the ends of the earth! You don't mess with guv'ners, idiot!"

No, some people did. Some people did and they ended up dead. It was 'real stupid for a Bounty Hunter.

The thought struck them almost instantly.

The horse bounced beneath them. They wrapped their arms tighter around Raziel and brought their head around to his ear. "Check for a tattoo. It should be above the right shoulder."

She needed confirmation...

Was this man Lust? The feared demon of Snavia, with a higher bounty on his head than even Faelan?

Because if so- Suko felt really super bad for Raziel! No sir, that would not end very well for him at all. Or her either, for that matter. I guess being friends with strange guys is a super bad idea! Who'd have guessed it?

It looked like Lust (if that's who he was) was following Raziel, though. Was there a bounty? Or was this personal?

They leaned in a little closer and studied their features.

Neither looked a bit alike.

Still, though-

A man leapt out from the bushes. A water tattoo was glowing on his arm. "I FOUND THEM! JULINA'S BRIAR!"

The horse gave a frightened neigh and skidded to a stop.

Suko latched on tighter to Raziel and felt a shudder wrack her frame. She grasped her bow- and let her hand hover there. Hopefully she wouldn't have to reveal her identity to anyone...

They were doomed. They were doomed. They were-

Suko's voice snapped him out of his panicked trance as they asked him to check Asmodeus's back. He looked at them with a questioning look but the look on Suko's face was almost pleading, begging him to do it. He nervously tugged at the collar of the man's shirt, though Asmodeus surprisingly didn't react. Was he good? Did he fall asleep? Was he dead?-

He shook the thoughts out of his mind and hastily pulled down the man's upper shirt to reveal his shoulders. He saw it, the faint outline of ink underneath the countless litter of scars. He could make out a diamond design that had two crossed over swords behind it along with a, quite unintelligible, quote underneath. The Grim Reaper of Lust it said. He nodded at Suko.

Did they know him? What did that tattoo mean, he wondered. The words were, he had to admit, kind of ominous.

The man had pretty much zoned out for a moment, both from pain and exhaustion. The burn had lessened to a throb as he tried to repair the damage done to his soul. Though it wouln't do much, it's better than letting his lifespan get shorter than it already is.

A tug to his shirt from behind surprised him. Was that the boy? Was he looking at his back. He smiled.

No, it was the other person. They knew exactly where the mark would be. How interesting. He didn't bother Raziel while he looked at his scarred upper body but he was soon met with the feeling of warm fingers tracing one of the multiple scabs. It was somewhat tickling.

"Hey, what are ypu doi-" he was about to say to Raziel when a voice popped out from the bushes. His fingers instinctively reached for one of his daggers. Julina's what? My, his english still as horrible as ever.

Oh well, this would mean more blood treats for him. More souls taken would mean a slightly longer life as he replaces the years that was cut by his soul magic.

Arioch took a sip of the apple juice, ignoring the fact that it could very well have been poisoned. Somehow, he failed to answer Faelan's very friendly and totally harmless question before Shurkul.

He lit up when he heard the word 'gold'.

"*gasp* You'll pay me for some redacted documents containing redacted information I stole from Elfish government officials? I mean, not that it matters, but I like gold~" Arioch said excitedly.

He then proceeded to pull out a perfectly straight piece of paper from somewhere under his hoodie, folded it into a paper plane, and threw it at Faelan.

"It's not like I need government documents to find people to kill anyway, eheh~"

Arioch then realized that Faelan had her hand around her dagger. He subconsciously took hold of his crossbow pistol, preparing for a surprise attack.

Suko Nobu

Suko clung to Raziel's back. It was beginning to get hard to breathe in the damp and dense forest air. She could detect so many different weird smells.

So unlike her pretty boy Raziel. Maybe it was the guy in the front? In any case, people smelled bad anyway so she should stop thinking about her pretty boy probably smelling better when he wasn't in a smelly forest touching a smelly guy who may or may not be-

They jerked to attention at a bob of his head. Something in his gaze read fear. Ah, so it was him.

This was bad then. Why was pretty Raz involved with one of the most infamous bounty hunters in Ayeriel?

Suko had never interacted with him. They were a relatively small name, and they operated primarily in her bestie Maria's burg. She had to change her identity when Maria tried to get her arrested sometimes, though. This man was sought out.

She didn't think an individual had as good an income. Except maybe Alveye or some of that stuffy Tilonian royalty. But that belonged to the kingdom, in any case.

So scary.

Well, regardless of the scary guy in the front, they were being chased, and it seemed like they were just about to be caught.

Guess I gotta, then, they thought.

They slipped their bow from its sheathe. "Try and get up on the mountainside," she whispered to Raziel. "We can pick them off if we can find cover."

"You will surrender immediately, for judgement by the Snavian army," the man in front of them ordered. He walked over to them, military-straight, hand reaching for a sword on his back-

"Run!" Suko yelped. "Push through!"

She pounded her fist into the horse's flank.

Shurkul

Uh oh. Looked like things were going downhill! Good thing Shurkul's specialty was in directing angry glares toward himself. "Yeah, yeah, ale and gold, sure. Anyway!" He inhaled. "I gueeeessss I better report this establishment to the Guards."

Nailed it.

Since Asmodeus was holding the horse's reins, he quickly relayed the information to the man. Going to higher ground was certainly a wiser move. At least they can manage the number of men easily compared to being vulnerable on ground level. Asmodeus kicked the sides and sent the horse surging forward, rushing past the men. Through the rush, Raziel could hear Asmodeus muttering something. Though unclear, the words certainly carried a cold air to them. He grimaced silently. What could the man be up to now?

The hushed recitals of the man was suddenly interrupted as he swerved his head to the right and flung a dagger into the air which collided with the metal head of a flying arrow, aimed directly at Raziel himself, causing both items to fall to the ground. Raziel surveyed the situation and it doesn't show any signs of smootheing out for the group. There were people in the woods, hidden behind trees, their swords, spears, arrows and countless other weapons were aimed at them.

They were surrounded, there is no way they are making it out.

"Take the rein," Raziel heard. He turned his attention to Asmodeus as the words left his mouth.

"What?" he was about to question until he saw the face of the man that sent chills down his spine. His eyes were as red as ever while his sclera was a dark black. Raziel could see the tattoo on his arm let out a faint glow. He stared at Asmodeus in disbelief.

After the impact he withstood just minutes ago, don't tell me... his thoughts blurred in the midst of his panic.

"Head to the mountains, take the reigns, I'll stall them," he repeated blantly before he leaped off the moving horse and ran towards the army. Raziel hurriedly took over, but his eyes never left the figure of the man as he ran towards the mob, with nothing but daggers to combat the men's fancier weapons.

What has he gotten himself into, he wondered as he carried the horse up towards the mountains.

If Raziel wasn't bringing him to a bar after this he would consider giving him a few angry cuts because he was, quite literally, desperate for a cold glass of beer. The boy gave him a stupid look of confusion, which was returned with a slightly annoyed glare from his dark eyes. He blankly repeated the statement and didn't bother waiting for a response before he jumped off and blocked the way between Raziel and the army.

Did he feel guilty? Absolutely not. He just wanted to take resonsibility. As criminal as he was, he didn't like dragging other people into his problems. He wants to treat his temporary allies as equally as he would lke to be treated himself.

He brought this upon them, and he'll end this himself.

As the strong footsteps of the horse faded in the distance and he deemed the group out of bounds for the spell he was about to cast, he took his stance. His fingers were already thinly coated with blood from the cuts he made earlier, the spell that had been read in advance resulted in a dark navy liquid instead of the usual crimson red.

For a moment, while he drew enough energy to carry out the spell, it was as if time stopped for a second. The approaching men slowed down, the arrows flying at him froze. For that brief moment, he was brought back to the memories of the alleyway.

It was his fault they died, his fault they were caught. Their sacrifice for him to survive was unforgivable. His existence is already a heinous sin. He watched as their dead, lifeless gaze pierce through the walls of his soul, tugging at the feeling of grief he never felt for a long time.

Amd for that split second, he saw, in place of the boys he knew growing up, he saw the lifeless forms of Emika, Suko and Raziel

The memory brought out a sudden surge of anger, bringing out enough soul power for him to execute the spell. His red eyes burned through the pitch black sclera.

"Adficio"

A swift command was followed by silence before a rumble of collapsing bodies followed. Anyone within the boundaries he set would have their life force completely drained. Asmodeus felt their energy rushing through him as he wobbily stood back up, dizzy from the voices that came after a finished drain. The voices of the souls he seeps shouted at him, giving him headaches. While his soul magic has been refilled, he felt really tired. Maybe it was the non stop bleeding on his arm? The blood was still dripping, he's going to need to wrap that up.

He dissappeared into the trees, approaching the team higher up in the mountains. They were close to the village near the Glen dungeons. They can rest soon.

Emika Tenshi-Smith

Emika quickly spurred her own horse to follow the other members of the rag-tag group. This was turning out to be quite the energetic adventure. She wondered how the sweet girl was holding up in the dungeons...

Brooksook Myel

Why hadn't she just knocked the girl out? It would've made escape attempts all the harder.

But it wasn't like she had a choice. It was follow Brooksook, or wait for the B'lyth. And even spoiled Snavian brats knew that the B'lyth were to be feared.

She pulled the prisoner behind her, gripping her arm tightly. "Keep your head down," she muttered. But when she glanced at the girl, she did a double take.

The Daemon was gone. And Brooksook was holding the arm of a young boy.

It's disguising them, she realized. That's... actually kind of useful.

Of course a monster like that would understand the importance of subtlety. How else would it work its mischief for long enough to assume a form like this?

"Carriage!" she called sharply. A carriage screeched to a stop on the road. Some people yelped, and a few horses veered to avoid it. She ignored the dirty looks, and instead urged the girl on, examining "his" now masculine features. Strong jaw, fluffy black hair, light brown skin.

Interesting. It was a terrible idea, since it was only an illusion and anyone who touched "him" would be onto their game immediately. So it wasn't all that experienced of a daemon. It must have a remarkable amount of raw magic potential to create such an advanced illusion without spell knowledge.

For the first time, she wondered who had been tortured in that dungeon. A hundred elves couldn't produce magic of this level.

The thought made her uneasy.

"We're leaving Briar Glen," she told the carriagemaster promptly. "Take us to the outskirts. We'll handle it from there."
