"I hope so," Leaf sighed. "If we don't, I'd hate to think what would happen."
"I miss home."
"Yeah, me too Blossom, but when this is all over we can return home."
A long since loomed over the two medics as they finally arrived, yet neither entered. Blossom looked at Leaf. "Is something wrong?" Leaf shook her head, but Blossom didn't believe her. "Leaf, please tell me-"
"I. . .I just can't stop thinking about it. . .Barry's death." Leaf admitted finally, tears pricking her eyes. "I just keep wondering if I had gotten to his side sooner. . .maybe I could've saved him."
Blossom looked at Leaf then held her close. "Leaf, you did everything you could to help. You even said it yourself, the injury was too great." Leaf broke down in Blossom's arms and Blossom held her lover close. "Shh, shh. I'm here. Right here." Blossom rubbed Leaf's back and put her head on the medic's shoulder. Leaf nuzzled into Blossom's chest as much as she could, still sobbing. Blossom placed a hand on Leaf's soft, red cheek and rubbed, wiping away each tear as it fell.
After a few minutes of consoling, Leaf's sobs died down to sniffles. She lifted her head to make eye contact with Blossom.
Blossom smiled a little and kissed Leaf on the nose. "We'll be okay."
"I'm not forcing you. If you don't want to talk, then you don't need to" Gwen tells Irida. "We're doing it! We're actually doing it! We may actually win this battle!" Irida shouts while turning to look at Kolby. "It's all thanks to you and your command" Kolby responds happily. He glances at her for only a second before facing back towards the fight.
"No, you're right, I need to do this" Irida responds sharply. Next to Irida, one of the catapults was dripping with oil, which is unknown to Irida. She stares forward at the fighting ahead. Gasping when she spots a nightmarish sight in the distance. "Warmachines! Take cover!" She cries out while leaping to the side to hide behind the nearest catapult just as arrows rain down upon them. The arrows had broken through the catapults, making them useless. Realizing this, Irida's men leave the catapults behind to rush into battle. Irida sneaks a peek at Kolby, but he wasn't looking at her, instead, he was looking at an archer in the distance.
"I have to do this" Irida repeats, much more softly now. The archer dips an arrow into the flame from her lamp and fires it at Irida. It hits Irida's catapult, the structure almost immediately goes up into flames. "Irida!" Kolby shouts while tackling her away from the burning catapult. His quick thinking ensured that she wouldn't die a nasty death, but she didn't get out of it unscathed. "Irida!" Kolby shouts again, staring at down Irida, horrified to see her in so much pain. Her teeth were clenched together, one eye opened to show off her agonized expression. The other half of her face was covered by a bloody hand. "No, Irida, no, please" Kolby whimpers. "Everything will be okay, I promise everything-"
"He was brave. Always have been..." Irida continues. "He was also a fighter, a fighter until the very end..." Fear fills Irida's eye as chilling laughter can be heard from behind Kolby. "Now, now, what do we have here?" A voice asks. Kolby turns around to face their attacker. With his body no longer blocking the view, Irida can now see who had approached them.
"It was the black-eyed girl," Irida reveals. "You..." Kolby growls, while slowly standing up to face her. "You leave us alone! Leave all of us alone!" He demands. His thoughts were illogical, driven by anger and she was not impressed. "Kolby tried to take a stand." Irida sucks in a pained breath, the memory was quickly becoming too much to bear. "Move away boy, I'm not here for you" the girl had not taken her eyes off Irida, in fact, she didn't even seem the slightest bit intimidated by him. "Kolby tried to save me, in fact, his sacrifice saved countless lives. I know now that we would've never won that battle." Kolby turns to look at Irida, at first he looked terrified, then... calm. As if he suddenly knew what he must do and had accepted it. "Retreat with the troops" Kolby demands. "I'm not leaving you!" Irida shouts. "Retreat. With. The. Troops!" Kolby repeats with much more force. "Now!" Irida opens her mouth to speak, but closes it when she meets his gaze. There was no arguing with him. "Somebody needs to make sure that you survive," Kolby explains while pulling out his sword. He stands in front of her, blocking both girl's view of eachother. It gives Irida time to slowly stand up onto her feet. She looks at Kolby before turning to leave him. "Our people need a leader, you are the best fit. It's been an honor serving you as both a soldier and a friend." Kolby's voice drifts into the air behind her, his words drive a dagger through her heart. "Hang tight! I'll come back for you!" She promises. The chilling laughter returns, "You foolish boy" the girl says as she draws out her own sword. "I'll enjoy killing both of you." Irida winces, she turns around one last time only to see Kolby and the girl launched into a sword fight. For a moment, she considers helping, until she moves an eye over to the battle ahead. Kolby was right, they needed to retreat.
"Kolby fought hard" tears were now streaming down Irida's face. "Retreat! Come on! We need to move!" Irida shouts as she races towards the nearest men. It doesn't take long for the other survivors to notice her actions and follow her pursuit. Her and her army race off. The whole time, Irida had been praying to whatever God was out there that Kolby was somehow still alive.
"But in the end..." The Cloaks didn't bother chasing the retreating army. They soon left the battlefield behind, leaving Kestrian to deal with the bodies. Irida was barely bandaged up before she went back out to search the battlefield for Kolby. She quickly spots the burnt down catapult and races towards it. Tears streamed down her face as a familiar black-haired boy lay next to it. His sword lay fallen, next to his body. His hand was slightly outstretched towards it, as if he tried to grab it but stopped himself. He lay facing Kestrian, undoubtedly wanting to see for himself that they made it out of the battlefield alive. She races towards the body, clutching it and screaming into the sky. She begged for it to not be true. But no matter what, the outcome had never changed. "...That black-eyed girl had won."

"I'm sorry you had to go through that. I know the pain you are experiencing." Gwen tells Irida softly. Misery loved company... Gwen recounts her own tale of losing Dylan. How he acted like a traitor to save them. How he ultimately died by fighting Talla to the death. Irida silently listens, her own tears drying up as a sympathetic look crosses onto her face.
When Gwen is done, both girl's glance at eachother, seemingly having a silent conversation with eachother. At that moment, they realized that they were more in common than they thought. Irida places a hand on Gwen's shoulder. "It's time for us to let go of the past. We must appreciate our time with them when they were alive and honor their deaths. It's time we move on... Together" Irida smirks, as if amused at the idea of working with Gwen as equals. "We'll continue living and fighting just as they would want and finally bring this war to an end!" Gwen returns the smile, thinking the same thing as Irida. At that moment, they were no longer allies, they were arguably friends.
"Now-" Irida drops her hand and wipes her face one last time, her smile disappearing when she drops her hand. "Let's return to the others, we still have a lot of work to do! We'll have to work extra hard to make up for this lost time!" Irida orders while marching ahead of Gwen.
"Irida's back" Gwen whispers to herself with an amused smile while following her back over to Winters.
