Overhearing the snort, Kayda whips her head around to glare at the one responsible for the sound. The one responsible was Tenacity, who was doing his best to hide his amusement.
An embarrassed flush appears on her face as she realizes that Tenacity had seen everything. If only she didn't need to be in alliance with him! It was just her luck that Tenacity managed to see everything! With a sigh, she leaves the wonderful buffet sitting in front of her and slides into the wall next to Tenacity.
"You saw nothing" she says to him without looking at him.

Tenacity nodded, his wings shaking with held back laughter. "N-nope, nothing seen. I didn't just see that you have a soft spot for cute things. Hey, if that's what you have a soft spot for, why didn't you help me up in the selection?" He gave her a joking smile, his uncovered eye gleaming with a sudden idea. He was clearly going to tease her about it and probably crack more than a few jokes about it, but the rest wasn't as obvious. "Kidding, kidding. I didn't see you silently adore a kitten." He gave Kayda a look as if he were staring at her over a pair of glasses, a smile building on his face again.

"You seemed like you could handle yourself back there" Kayda replies defensively, not immediately catching Tenacity's joking tone until he reassures her that he wasn't being serious. "Is it such a crime that I have an appreciation for adorable things?" Kayda asks with a light smile. "I can't see the whole world as my enemy all the time" she adds, shutting her eyes and allowing herself to relax. That's all you know though a voice in the back of her head reminds her. A crushed look appearing on her face for a moment as a painful memory comes to mind. She is quick to get rid of it. Now was not the time to look back at that, there was never a good time to think back to that painful day.

Tenacity looked at Kayda for a long moment. "Don't make me take this eye patch off. Either tell me, or I trade you for a memory." At that moment, a cat floated up, seemingly speaking to them. "Err..?" Glancing to Kayda, he gave her a pleading look of, 'What do I do?'

Glancing up to meet Tenacity's gaze, she opens and closes her mouth. Voicing what happened would be too much for her to bear. There was still a part of her that was desperate to tell him about what happened, to no longer need to bear this memory alone. But she couldn't bring herself to put the memory into words. She glances away quickly, avoiding his question altogether, fearing his reaction. She turns her attention to Frank, who appeared to be floating. A tight smile appears on her face as she attempts to bury her emotions deep down and instead humor Meg.
"How scary! Don't hurt us oh great one" she says as she scratches behind Frank's ears.

Tenacity held out his gloved hand for Frank to smell, not knowing how to act around a cat. He either forgot or ignored the small amount of grey skin showing from his glove, instead he focused on the cat, ready to yank his hand back in case Frank opened his mouth to bite at Tenacity. All he knew about cats was that they made his aunt sneeze and red in the face. Tenacity's wings were pulled close to his large body, as if they were trying to hide behind him.

"That's a relief" Kayda replies. "Keep Frank under control then" her forced amusement falters into a saddened expression. Meg reminded her so much of her. It has been seven years since she had lost her but her death still hurt just as much as the first day she lost her.

Akane woke up and rubbed her eyes, Leaf looked from the window to Akane and smiled. "Did you have a good nap?"

"Considering that I didn't get much sleep last night, yes, I did." Akane yawned and stretched her legs before sitting up and rolling her neck to keep the kinks out. When she had finished she turned to Leaf and held a hand out to her, with a smile Leaf took it and Akane helped her up. The two head to the buffet as well. At first glance, Akane looked average all around aside a bit of chub here and there along with some bags under her eyes, but otherwise normal. A longer look, however, revealed that despite her chub she had a bit of muscle from farming labor.

Leaf on the other hand was a bit taller with a smaller build than Akane.

Coraline was at the buffet as well, carefully picking through the food for anything she could actually consume.

Tenacity wet his lips, then reached up and removed his eye patch. Snapping his fingers to get Kayda's attention, he spoke. "You want that off your shoulders fast, I can tell. I'll tell you my story if you're willing." The dead eye was still as blank as before, but now it felt renewed. Instead of the mob of your usual blocks, there were cunning minds here, and the dead eye wanted to know their secrets. Tenacity , however, kept it in check by focusing his attention on Kayda, hoping that she would be willing to speak to him. Or.. Bring a memory to mind.

"Do I even really have a choice?" Kayda asks with a light laugh. She remembered how easy it was for Tenacity to draw her memory into his mind, so he would have no problem doing it once again. "Well, there is no guarantee that I'll be alive within the next couple of days, no use continuing to hold this close" Kayda replies. She allows the memory to come up. Tears fall down her face as she is once again, forced to remember that terrible day.

The house was quiet, much quieter than normal. Kayda opens up the door, expecting her little sister to be waiting for her like she usually does. Desperate to chat with Kayda about her day. Instead she finds a terrifying sight. Her parents stand over her sister, who was desperately trying to activate her powers. She was pale and frail, a side effect of her sickness. She manages to make them fly across the room with her energy powers, which gives Kayda enough time to step in.
"Why are you doing this!?" Kayda demands, bravely standing between her parents and sister.
"Money is tight kiddo, this is for the best- for all of us" her father responds. He tried to move Kayda aside, but she didn't allow it. She instead, fought him. The fight was long and brutal, Kayda tried to fight off her parents, desperate to distract them long enough to give her sister time to escape. But her powers were weak, and she was obviously outnumbered. She ended up falling unconscious, being too weak and injured to continue on.
Kayda woke up in a hospital bed. The nurses were the ones to inform Kayda on what happened. Her neighbors heard the fight and tried to stop it. But they came too late, the deed was done, her sister was already dead.

The memory seems to disappear from her mind and in replace, is one from Tenacity.

Coraline felt her eyes glance over at Kayda before quickly darting back to the food. Compared to the scrawny sixteen-year-old Inkling-human hybrid, Kayda looked like she could accomplish a lot more than herself, at least on physical standards. But then again. . .Coraline thought about all the times she and other Inklings had practiced Splatfest, though it was an event once there was always a promise that it could come back, but then it never did. That stopped none of her kind from trying to be the best.

Her free hand resting at her side twitched, itching to pull her trusty Splat Dualies, ink up the whole train in Cyan and jump in the ink in her squid form. Oly lots of training restrained this strong urge, that, and there would be plenty of time to do that later.

The dead eye linked to Kayda's mind, wrapping around the memory and reading it for Tenacity's own.

A cry pierced the darkness, the silence splitting. A young boy stood in front of a mirror, clawing at his hand. His fingertips were grey, and something laid on the desktop in front of the mirror. Something that was flaking apart, dropping bits of rust. Tenacity had been fixing an object in his room, reaching for the iron took he needed to finish putting a knob back on the dresser. But the iron had corroded, and the boy's hand had started to change. The door burst open, two figures entering the room. They whispered, comforting words drifting through the air. Then, all went dark.

The boy, a few years older now, sat at the edge of a body of water, staring at the water, and at a fish he held in his right hand. A hand that was nearly entirely grey. Staring at the fish, he let out a cough, clearing his throat. He didn't have a fever, he knew he wasn't sick. Then, the dead fish started to change. Flesh started to decay, melting away to reveal the fragile, nearly invisible ribs of the fish. A shudder, a cry, and the fish sat on the bank next to where he had been sitting. A man rushed over, talk and fair. Tenacity pointed at the fish, spewing words that were hardly understandable. His father understood, though. Beckoning to a woman reading a book, the man quickly and quietly explained what had happened to her. She looked at Tenacity, shock in her eyes.

Two days had passed. His parents held luggage for him. He did not understand, until he spotted a third. His aunt, genetic sister to his father, sat with them. His parents smiled, beckoned him towards them. His aunt sighed, grumbled. "Tenacity, you'll be staying with Nance for a while." The next few minutes flashed by. A large house appeared before Tenacity, Nance walking inside and grabbing a bottle. "Where am I sleeping?" Nance turned sharply. "Get this straight, kid. I don't care where you stay, as long as you don't get in the way of what I do. Set up in the attic for all I care. I'll give you cash to get food for yourself and that's it. You provide for yourself, and you get to stay." Tenacity felt shocked. Grabbing his luggage, two bags, he started to explore. He found stairs that led to a small room, and started to unpack. One bag held a cot, completely disassembled. The other bag held clothed. Quickly, Tenacity set up the cot, then shoved his second bag underneath it. A call from outside the room alerted him to something. "I'm leaving, enjoy your room. If anything's missing or destroyed when I get back, you're out! Get it? Out!" The front door slammed. Tenacity bit the inside of his cheek. The bottle had alcohol in it, he doubted Nance would remember if something was missing when she came back. If she came back, that was. Hurrying down the stairs, Tenacity found a stockpile of money. Only a few bills were taken, fear welling up in the boy. He ran back to his room, counting out what he had nabbed. Enough to get by, but only by barely.

Nance did not come back until the night of the next day.

Shock fills Kayda's eyes as the memory fades. He was just like her, he had lost everything in just one day, and was forced to face an even worse life. Her aggression and need to tolerate him fades away and is replaced with a sense of comfort. He would have some sort of idea of what she was forced to go through... Or at least a better idea than most. More importantly, she wouldn't have to be alone anymore.
"I'm sorry you had to go through that" she whispers. Returning her gaze to the ground so that she wouldn't have to meet his eyes. She wasn't ready to see what was probably pain in his gaze. That's what she told herself at least. She may be strong enough to share this vulnerable side of her, but she wasn't strong enough to openly show how much this was really affecting her.

Tenacity blinked the mental bond apart, pulling the eye patch back over his face. Slowly, he wrapped an arm around her back and pulled her into a hug, whispering something back. "I'm not the only one who had to go through unjust treatment." Stepping back from the hug, he looked at her. "Honestly.. I'm a bit surprised you didn't ask about the hand." He had used his left arm to pull her into the hug. The gloved right hand had remained mostly unmoved. "The only other time I shared that memory, they wanted to know everything about the hand." A short lived chuckle shook his chest.
