Mega evolution?!?!

How should I go about trying to mega evolve some of these pokemon? I see that players are searching for mega-able pokemon, so I don't know if there is just a chance you can mega evolve, or if it takes a certain item.

Mega Evolution works a little differently here than normally.
Instead of obtaining a certain Mega Stone in order to Mega Evolve a Pokémon, you have to hatch a Pokémon with a special power. Once this happens, you have to get a Mega Stone and give it to the Pokémon to hold. After it reaches Level 50, it will Mega Evolve. In addition to this, Mega Evolution is not reversible as in the official Pokémon Games.

My Gyrados is at level 51 but hasn't mega evolved. Why is that so?

My Skarmory have a mega stone but it never mega evolved even tho i leveled it up to 89.

@DreamLiz : Actually, your Skarmory is not holding Mega Stone or any items.. :O

That icon that you saw besides its Level/EXP is called a "mega bubble" icon, which signifies that your Pokémon can mega-evolve further.. if you have given it a "Mega Stone" item and then level it up to Lv.50 or higher to make mega-evolve it afterwards. ;)

So, I have two Sableye, right? Both have mega stones, and one is level 60, but not mega evolved... A little confused?

They don’t have the stones. They have the special power. You need to give them an item called Mega Stone, you can buy for about 400K PD from others or make one in the gem cauldron.
