Magikarp Mayhem!

Very recently, there was a spot of drama involving a magikarp pushie, a trending feed, and an outburst of disaster from both sides of this gripping incident. Here's what went down. A user was feeling generous, and decided to send out a magikarp plush to a random user. Little did they know, the user who received this plushie would not be so welcoming with its arrival. Although this plushie was sent randomly, the user had a fit and blocked the plushie-sender. The reason? Very clearly written on their profile was a list of rules, one of which was an expression of their dislike for the Pokémon Magikarp. They requested that no Magikarp plushies were sent to them, and this rule was obeyed, for the most part. The user who sent this Magikarp plushie was having none of it, and made a feed, in which the user expressed their confusion on how someone could block a kind-hearted person sending a plushie. This shouldn't have escalated further, but a few users figured out who the blocker was, and began spamming them with Magikarps. Some users sided with them, and blocked the ones who sent the plushies, while others recruited users to spam the innocent recipient with hoards of Magikarps. Soon enough, the drama became known site wide, and users left and right attacked each other for their opinions on the matter. Even the humble creator of our website made a feed on the topic, asking people to comment if they wanted a Magikarp plushie. Some applauded him for his tolerance, while others criticized him for insensitivity.

Recently, we had the egg spriting contest! Some of the winners have given us an interview on the same.

1. What prompted you to become an artist?

RAZPberry: Honestly, I wouldn't call myself as an artist. I'm just a beginner in this field (i mean drawing digitally) and I'm only doing it as a hobby. But, ive been fond of drawing since I was young (unfortunately, neglected as I grew up). But ive been spriting fakemon when I was younger occasionally. Then one day in college, there was this one subject course which requires drawing digitally to pass the course). From there, I began spriting using a computer in which after the course was once again neglected. Then months after I join ph, I noticed some ppl doing commissions, hence ive started to sprite again.

Sparrowwa: Art has always been really soothing to me ever since I could remember. When I was just a little kid, like 6 or 7, I loved painting and sculpting. I've always had it as a relaxing outlet for my frustrations. So, when the egg design contest came up this year I decided to give it a shot (even though I've never tried digital art before). It was definitely a new medium for me, but I had a lot of fun making a ton of eggs. I actually make like a dozen or so but only posted the 5 I most enjoyed.

Giltine13: Nothing really did, just been doing it for as long as I can remember and so far I haven't been discouraged enough to stop. I want to get better so I just keep going and drawing.

Rebecca: I always enjoyed looking at paintings and character drawings, and I wanted to be able to draw my own world and creatures. I follow quite a lot of artists (mix of traditional, digital and mixed media artists) who inspire me to draw. When it comes to sprite art however, I used to be a member of one site where we would draw fused pokemon. That was the first time I was introduced to sprite art and how fun yet challenging it can be.

Agent8: In general? Nothing really, I always enjoyed drawing as a kid and I just never stopped since then. If you mean for the contest - I really liked the idea of the contest. Letting your userbase participate in creating parts of the event. I really wanted to try and create something beautiful for everyone to see.

Tiny01: I don't see myself as an artist. I saw that you could design the easter eggs and decided to give it a go.

Furret: Well I have always had an interest in art since I was a little kid. It wasn't until I was 14 years old, though, that I was introduced to the digital art scene. I was just attracted to it, and 5 years later I'm still here.

kelbunny13: I am not exactly sure, as I have been drawing for as long as I can remember. Though video games and movies helped spark the interest.

myronarth: Drawing anything was something I thought of doing in my spare time so that I would feel better in a difficult time of my life and I ended up discovering that it's something I love doing.

Guri: If we are speaking about art in general: I have liked drawing ever since I was a child but I started taking it more serious when I saw my aunts drawings. She draws realistic artwork and I was amazed at how good she could draw. After that, I wanted to improve my own art so I myself could maybe amaze someone one day. The contest: To be honest, I was just bored. I decided to join it to have something to do. I won last year so I thought I at least have a chance to win again this year.

Rukus: Since my childhood, I enjoyed drawing. I guess it was just a hobby which I always accompanied me and which brings me a lot of joy up to this day.

tictoc: I'd been drawing since I was 2, with packets of crayons and a stack 9f paper, and when I found spriting I decided to try it out. So when the egg spriting contest came up, I was like hell yeah! This might be fun. And it was! Also, art intrigues me with the aesthetic part haha.

Rascal: A lot of the content I consumed during my childhood definitely ignited and amplified my passion for art, although I was always more inclined to drawing and the likes even if my interests weren’t involved. It’s a creative outlet and a way for me to find comfort even in the most overwhelming environments. Other artists and creators inspired me to improve my drawing capabilities as well (e.g. Jun Mochizuki, Soejima Shigenori, and Touya Mikanagi to name a few.) It's difficult to pinpoint a certain source of encouragement when there have been so many influences during different periods of my life, though, if I had to give a conclusive answer to what prompted me to become an artist it would certainly be the aforementioned subjects.

f1owercrown: I was an only child growing up, so my imagination grew immensely esp. when I was alone. My first drawing pads were the walls on our house, so I guess that's where my being an artist started. As a kid, you just have a lot of creativity and you need to express it in different forms, y'know?

_Treecko_:I'd say the thing that prompted me to become an artist was the ability to openly express my thoughts and test my skills on paper and other things such as my drawing programs!!


2. What was your inspiration for making the easter egg sprite?

RAZPberry: At first, I only wanted to join the event for the reward. XD. but in choosing the design, I'm thinking of something that is related to all pokemon. That's when I thought of using Pokeball. But Pokeball us too common and ultra balls, great balls, fastballs, etc. are not that too generic. Hence, a master ball is the perfect design (not too common and at the same time, generic).

Sparrowwa: So it was kind of a combo of things. My brother is a huge fan of Japan and Japanese culture (even learning the language and we all plan to visit the country one day). And Sakura/Chery Blossom Trees are a big deal there - they have festivals and tons of food with Sakura! So those trees were already something I knew well about. In addition, we also (coincidentally) have a cherry blossom tree in front of our house! I see it every day, and it started to bloom right around when the contest began. So it was a combo of loving that species of tree with our personal tree blooming - and I just became inspired!

Giltine13: For that particular one it was nature, more precisely those vine-like plants.

Rebecca: aster Rabbit Scenery - I wanted to draw something in the spirit of Easter so I decided to draw rabbit with eggs. I was inspired by those pastel color Easter egg stickers you use to decorate the egg. Decorated Egg - I struggle with drawing patterns and this one took me the longest to make as I constantly made changes to the pattern to make it look right. I didn't want to make anything complex because I was afraid it wouldn't look good when I shaded it to make a 3D effect. Red Scorpion - I love scorpions and I really wanted to make one egg with a little red scorpion on it. ^^ Hard boiled egg - I was struggling to make some other designs I came up with so I just drew this for fun. I posted it more as a joke than actual entry and I'm surprised no one did this already.
As you can see I tried to decorate eggs in different styles to challenge myself and push the limits. I'm looking forward to the next year and I hope to improve even more until then.

Agent8: Shaymin! it’s one of my favorite pokemon and luckily it’s also one of the few that remind me of spring. With the blooming flowers and all.

Tiny01: Well Easter itself was an inspiration. I think Easter eggs should be colorful and I like stripes. Other inspirations are basically everything, I got ideas by just looking at Easter eggs made by other people.

Furret: My inspiration was thinking of April, and how the month's gemstone is a diamond. So the egg is actually based off of just that - a diamond.

kelbunny13: I enjoy chose a gemstone, as they are quite simple, but still can look very lovely and beautiful. I also chose a gemstone as I wanted to create a monochromatic-esqe egg, and I thought green would fit the holiday.

myronarth: At first I was doing some random patterns but this one was similar to mountains and I thought it should be related to pokemon so I added Articuno and some snow ^^

Guri: The sprite that won was inspired by flowers in a transparent vase. I personally didn't think it turned out as I had expected though. I was really surprised to see it actually won.

Rukus: Oh, it was a random idea which popped into my mind actually!
I really love stars and the galaxy, so that's why I wanted to create a design which reflects that feeling! Making gradients with pixel art is also a lot of fun, so that's why I just combined both and ended up with this design. Two birds with one stone, haha.

tictoc: A year ago I made this thing, and I really liked the aesthetic. So that was the first idea I had for an egg. :'>

Rascal: The main inspirations for the sprite were from a song I had been listening to at the time, as well as the winter season and its colder climate.

f1owercrown: I love pixels and I love galaxy-themed anything! An off-site artist I worked with (and is a continuous inspiration to me too) was good at making pixel designs, so I asked them for a little advice on how to make a pixelated galaxy design. Lo and behold, though it was experimental, I managed to pull off my first galaxy drawing!

_Treecko_: My inspiration for the egg I created was Ducklett!! Ducklett being the mascot of Pokeheroes made it a #1 choice for an egg design, also it's soo cute! Just look at it's little face!!

3. What would your advice be to the artists of PH?

RAZPberry: Always put passion in everything that you do. It might be not that useful, trivial, or too difficult, but if ur enjoying it that would be worth it.

Sparrowwa: I'd definitely suggest giving new things a try! You never know what you can do, until you go for it! I had never done digital art before, and one of my designs ended up being picked! So go out there and try new mediums, get messy, make mistakes, and enjoy all the amazing kinds of art you can!

Giltine13: Just keep making stuff and don't stop. Make those ugly drawings, make the pretty ones and all in between. You don't have to show them or even like them but draw them. And keep experimenting, trying new stuff - it's pretty fun!

Agent8: Stop underselling and comparing your work to others.

Tiny01: If you start out with an idea and you don't like where it's going don't erase everything. Just change your direction and see where you end up. It may turn out better than you expected.

Furret: Don't give up, I suppose. I know that is a super cliche piece of advice but it holds true. Sometimes it can be really hard to keep on drawing knowing the reward might be little, or that some people won't like your art, but even so, it is important to just keep on going and pushing through the negatives until you achieve what you want to.

kelbunny13: My advice would be to keep drawing. Over time, even if you don't consciously try to change anything, your art will still improve. And what you draw doesn't have to be fancy or anything either. Just draw what you enjoy!

myronarth: Just try don't stop practicing, your art will be in constant evolution, and improvement.

Guri: My advice would be to just have fun when spriting/drawing.

Rukus: Not to lose the fun in drawing maybe? ;; I see a lot of artists getting discouraged because they constantly compare themselves to others. It's really sad...
You picked this craft because you liked it. Because you didn't mind spending time on it as a hobby. Why would you stop it now if it always brought you so many happy memories?
Also, if you want to improve there is no other way than practice and do studies;; it takes a lot of time but it helps so much! u v u

tictoc: aa, I don't think I can really give anyone advice :'> but I can say that just keep practicing and you'll get somewhere, and don't give up !!

Rascal: While I don't feel like I'm in any sort of position to provide insightful advice drawing exercises can help a ton, especially if its something outside your comfort zone. Picking a subject (e.g. hands, perspective, dynamic poses.) and drawing it repetitively can help you improve in that area of art. You can give yourself a time limit as well but it isn't mandatory.

f1owercrown: To the artists of PH (and anyone in general!), here's a piece of advice: don't beat yourself up too much about getting things wrong/wonky especially the first time around. References, guides, and many more are out there ready to aid you in improving, so don't be afraid of going out of your comfort zone and expanding your horizons. This isn't to say that tracing/copying is good (P.S.: it's bad), but if you struggle with drawing just by memory, there's no harm looking for inspiration and such online. Also, talk to your fave artists if you want! More likely than not, they'll be happy to know they inspire you and are more than willing to share some advice. ^^ I've asked advice from a few of my faves and they were all sweethearts!

Another relevant thing I want to point out is that realism or 3D art isn't the be all and end all. No, sir; you find your style you're comfortable with, be it a cartoon-like fashion, chibi designs, anime-style, or real-life portraits. Don't force yourself into a style you know just isn't you; no one style is better than the other. Experiment with different styles to your heart's content!

[user_Treecko_[/user]: Some advice I'd like to give to the artists on Pokeheroes would be to practice and draw what you love most!! Drawing what you enjoy is, personally, one of the things that gives me a lot of motivation!!

Hello there, everyone! I’m CaptainDrewBoy and today I’d like to look at forum games that had me rolling in the isles. Not literally, of course, as I was really rolling in my chair, in my room, all alone…….

Anyway, I’d like to start with Corrupt a Wish

In this game, one person makes a wish, then another one thinks of way it could go wrong, before themselves making a wish. It’s quite a fun loop. The results can range from your friend becoming a shiny Pokémon that was eaten to the world ending in 5 days. If that sounds like your kinda thing, I suggest you check it out.

Next up is Daddy, I sold your ____ to a ____ online!!. This one has a very similar structure to Corrupt a wish. One person will fill in the blanks. Another will post a reaction as the dad, before themselves filling in the blanks. If I’m being honest, this one’s my favourite. Both parts of the post can be really funny.

And finally, we have You're Banned . No amusingly bad sprite this time. So in this game, you post a silly reason the user above you should be banned. It can be the reason they banned the person above them, or their profile picture, or just about anything! I will say that it does get rather off-topic, with users debating why they banned each other. But it can be great fun, so give it a try if you can!

So the quest for another mega began. On 18th may, Riako added yet another new mega that people thought it should be in the anime. Skarmory finally got its own mega form thanks to the awesome spriters of pokeheroes. As always, one had to complete tasks like trading, interacting, battling,g etc to gain points. The event started on the 18th of may and ends on th 30th of may. If you think that you will miss the event, don’t worry because someone is going to start a shiny mega hunt and there will be tons of them to grab.

Upon that day dragon seal their power living in harmony with humans while forging the new kingdom that is Dragoon. Now Zodiark seal is staring to weaken and is up to you re-seal the dragon before he enslave all of humanity...

Paragons After Dark [Sign Ups]

Paragons After Dark - the PAD - is a service hidden on the dark web. They typically steal unsolved cases from police databases, taking them as their own to solve. From busting illegal trades to tracking murders, many of the jobs end in bloodshed. It's not, however, uncommon for it's members to be hired as private hitmen.

The PAD was founded and lead by the Harper family in the year xxxx, who were tired of the many crimes sliding past the eyes of the law. Being handed down through the generations, it’s now currently led by Dr Noah Harper, who’s main focus (between jobs) is searching for the man that murdered his wife just a few years ago.

Many view the PAD as just another reckless city gang, despite many of the members having considerably normal daily lives. School, work, family, etc. Thus, many of the members do not look like your typical “assassins”. This, plus no concrete set requirements to be accepted into the PAD. Just a few background checks, a form to fill in, and some luck.

The Realm of Darkness (Sign up)
You are doing your usual routine when suddenly you a see a dark fog appear in front of you. You curiously walk towards the fog, then you hear something beckon you towards it. You enter the fog and you are transported to another place, the fog is gone now, you are surrounded by darkness. A tall dark-haired man wearing sunglasses suddenly appears in front of you. "You shouldn't have come" he says while shaking his head "Quick. Follow me before they see you."
"Who... Are you?" you ask. "I am Everett, the first human to be trapped in this world. You need some rest..." he says as you fall asleep. You wake and ask him where you are. "You are in a realm of eternal darkness. There are creatures of darkness everywhere. It is impossible to escape unless we kill the Dark Lord, the ruler of this realm. Now tell me, who are you?"

A long time ago before the founding of the Dragoon kingdom, dragon where the one who rule the land but they would ignore humanity since they thought the humans were not a threat to them. One day a dragon attack village showing no remorse to the humans, the humans angry at the dragon's demand a explanation. Naga the queen of all dragon's decided to find out the cause of this attack, as she investigated she found out that when a dragon begging to age they would slowly loose their insanity and become corrupt being, to prevent this from happening she propose other dragon's to seal their powers on items to prevent this but Zodiark Naga brother refuse her idea of sealing their power causing a rivalry and shift of power between the two. Soon war broke causing two faction to emerge, the Dragoon and the Dradigons ravaging the lands and beyond but the war would come to in a end with the help a human who wanted to end the war Naga share her power with the human and banish Zodiark for millennia. Upon that day dragon seal their power living in harmony with humans while forging the new kingdom that is Dragoon. Now Zodiark seal is staring to weaken and is up to you re-seal the dragon before he enslave all of humanity...

So we’re back with 2 new event pokemon released to pokeheroes. This time, our awesome spiriters have redesigned deino and named it steamo. This fabulous pokemon was released on 4 june and lasted till the 19th of june. However, it is possible to buy it on the eventshop now.

While this event lasted, there was some news that there was a mysterious ship accident on the sea not too far away from emera town’s coast. And that’s were our second event pokemon plays a role in. Nosspass the compus pokemon has been transformed into a lighthouse by our special spiriters and named Nosepharos. Apparently it guides the ships to the harbor safely. What a nice and helpful pokemon. The event started on 21st June and will last till 30th June…so if u haven’t started grinding for it…come’on man..JUST DO IT..

As for the ship accident, a rescue team has been sent to bring the injured people back and we will know more on 1st July which is also……..POKEHEROES ANIVERSARRY WOW!!!

One such tradition occurs every 100 years, when all mortals gather at the sacred temple and throw a feast for them. Every time without fail, it has been a grand ceremony with wine flowing endlessly and laughter ringing throughout the halls.

By the end of the night, the festivities will end and the true event will start. One by one, the gods will choose a mortal. Whether the mortal is chosen as a friend, a slave, a lover or simply for companionship is up to the god. Each God would have had the chance to mingle with their worshippers and converse with them, giving them plenty of time to choose.

For years, mortals have worshiped the gods, kneeling at their feet with offerings and pleads. The gods do their part to appease those who worship them and in return, mortals continue to bring them items of worth and prayers.

One such tradition occurs every 100 years when all mortals gather at the sacred temple and throw a feast for them. Every time without fail, it has been a grand ceremony with wine flowing endlessly and laughter ringing throughout the halls.

By the end of the night, the festivities will end and the true event will start. One by one, the gods will choose a mortal. Whether the mortal is chosen as a friend, a slave, a lover or simply for companionship is up to the god. Each God would have had the chance to mingle with their worshippers and converse with them, giving them plenty of time to choose.

Pokémon Descent to Darkness [Signups - Open]
A strange fog has befallen Emera Town. Not only that, but it seems everyone is asleep. Only Pokémon aren't affected, so a group of them decide to find out why the humans are asleep. But not all of the Pokemon here want the humans to wake back up. And why is it that the deeper they go the more mysteries they find?

Pokemon: Battle Royale [RP Sign Ups]
Using the elemental power of z-crystals, scientists have managed to produce an implant which, when injected into the body, releases it's power in order for the possessor to use. Only a single prototype using the normalium-z had been made and tested. Results showed that moments after the implant was placed, the holder could perform simple Pokemon attacks of that type such as tackle, quick attack, and swift - but could not carry out more than four different moves. The moves were particularly messy, granted the implant had only just been placed. However, it was eventually concluded, over weeks of observation, that the mechanics of the power was able to mimic that of Pokemon who eventually “forgot” and gained more control over their moves as they grew.

18 more implants were created - this time, one of each typing.

Why? Because the Pokemon population was declining quickly. Trainer rules were changing. They could now only carry their starter, unless they had a special license. Thus, the implants were developed in order for people to still enjoy battles, without the endangerment of Pokemon.

*Present day*

The Battle Royal Dome in Alola was further developed, now allowing sparring matching between those under the influence of the implants, as well as Pokemon free-for-alls. Trainers could come and go as they wished - a new dormitory building available for rent at a relatively low-price.

1-on-1, duos, free-for-alls or just for training purposes.

This place was currently the only place for such sparring tournaments for people and pokemon, despite implants made available in each region. You have been welcomed to join for it’s re-opening. Just fill out the following form~

In order to celebrate our anniversary, the Team decided to do a lottery.
Everybody who has ordered a shiny from Sunday 30/06 until 31/07 will receive a ticket and be able to win amazing prizes.

Poked Entry: If it is attacked, Cascoon remains motionless however badly it may be hurt. It does so because if it were to move, its body would be weak upon evolution. This Pokémon will also not forget the pain it endured.

All recipients were given 4things, A plane ticket to Alola, A Z Ring, a letter, and a weird Blue and Yellow pokeball, I like Amy you had ever seen before. The letter was simple enough. It told of a contest to prove your real power. The winner would receive 3mil PD, a lifetime supply of poke balls, and a free brand new Rotom Dex. Who wouldn’t try there luck?
