@Lucky
Oml, I used to write out of order, but then I had all the fun parts done first, and EVERYTHING ELSE WAS BORING. >:\ It's funny, because my writing really needs to help me along. Sometimes I feel like I'm just saying to myself, shhh, don't worry, the main character's death scene is coming up soon... shhh, that'll be fun to write.
But I totally plot out the ending miles before I'm there. I hate stories with bad endings, so I try to make all of mine interesting/have a twist/or have SOME ACTUAL CLOSURE. *glares at fourth grade and Stewart Little*

Oh my GOD Stewart Little was the worst culprit of that...

But I get what you mean honestly, some parts of World Domination were REALLY fun to write and some parts were just like "Can this be over yet?" I'm not sure, the general consensus from my readers on that was that the whole thing was awesome, but I definitely thought some parts were way more boring than others.

@Reckless I usually either give myself a break, or just google writing prompts and write some of those with the characters in the story, then the writer's block eventually seems to go away. Idk if this'll work for you, but, you can try if you want.

@Lucky I do the same. I have a HUGE Portal fanfic to work on and I have the end of chapter 1, and the ending planned out in my mind, so the rest is really hard to write seeing as I have no idea for those parts. (My current motivation is "Don't worry! Crimson and the main antagonist will HAVE to interact at the end of this chapter!! That'll be fun to write, especially since you already have it all planned in your head!!")

@All Also, on this topic, the WORST THING is when you're mid-way into writing something and all of a sudden the idea is just GONE, and you don't know why you forgot it, but you can't get it back.

@All who answered
Ahhh, thank you for the suggestions! I'm armed with a good music selection, about five different writing prompts I want to make characters for, and thirteen different ideas for which part of Makau and Mahalo I want to focus on.
I think I'm going to go with them when they were young, when Kau had her first major freak out and killed her own mother. Maybe? Or I'll do Makau's (and Mahalo's) connection to Discord, which could be kinda fun. I at least feel a little more motivated than I did last night/this morning at 4 am, so I suppose that's good.

@Phoenix
Really? My writing camp is super "sure you can do the prompts or you can do whatever you want as long as you're writing." Literally. I spent our half an hour of the main, big-group writing time just writing a piece of horror I had started writing earlier that day instead of one of the four prompts like everyone else. They let us write down each prompt too, in case we want to do them later that week, or in our own free time. Plus, we have these things called Interest Groups where you get to pick two from this long list of different topics, like poetry, creating fantasy worlds, science fiction, 'shadow writing', from freeverse to haiku, all sort of stuff, and everyone who picked that certain topic gets a bit over an hour to go off into our Interest Groups and discuss and write about the topics. My writing camp is super "I don't care as long as you're passionate about writing."

Wow, that sounds awesome XD
We kinda just... get prompts, and have no time to free write, which sucks because I usually go into writing camp like "I WANNA DO THIS" and never get the chance to do it
and now, 80% of my motivation is gone because I want to do my story but all the prompts are like "write some stuff on sticky notes and pass them around and write a story with whatever you get in the end" and "roll dice and get some random words to make a story out of"
which is fine, but i cant use any of the characters i want to use, and i cant get nearly as crazy as i'd like to with the plot. i have an idea for a sci-fi/fantasy themed story but like... all the other stories are like... realistic fiction (ew), writing about colors (more ew) and fleshing out predetermined stories (EWWWWWWW)

Dang that sounds awful.
Even our prompts, which we have in the morning and in the afternoon, are really cool. Today we had one that was "Cats, dogs, rain, snow, and everything else that falls from the sky..." and another was "Night Whispers." I made a really cool story based off a black fox that could hear the shadows talking to her, but every other fox thought she was crazy.
I can't imagine trying to write about colors (although I've done a few poems on colors when Im bored) or realistic fiction.
But if you have a story idea, write it down by yourself! Who needs other people, pshh.

omg, looser prompts are soooo much better XD
and tbh if i wrote it down by myself i'd probably end up not sharing it which would just be sad-
WAIT
UNLESS I MADE IT A FANFIC ON PH---

on the subject of writer's block:

honestly, this and procrastination are my two worst enemies. if you're the kind of writer who gets easily distracted even after they've promised to catch up 10k in the next hour [cough] me, maybe something like Write or Die or Cold Turkey will help you out?

the first one has a bunch of different options, but my favourite is hey man if you stop writing i will literally start to delete your words. the second one is an application you can download and - get this - it goes fullscreen and 100% stops you from doing anything until you hit your word count goal or a certain amount of time has passed.

other than resorting to software, like others have said, my only other solution is to step back and take a break. maybe do something else creative, like art. that works, sometimes!

This might honestly sound weird, but I've found that roleplaying helps with writer's block. A lot. My mother (a technical editor with a degree in literature I believe) says that the best cure for writer's block is to just keep writing, and roleplaying is just that. Writing.

Not sure if that will help anyone, but it certainly helps me. If you have severe writer's block, try roleplaying a little!

I absolutely love Roleplaying, and it helps me get over writer's block! Also, music helps with fighting writer's block. If you get inspiration from music, keep listening to the song! You can write things down while listening.

I often have to little writers block and ideas are just... there? Hence my fifty thousand roleplays. And I came up with a new OC because of the writing camp, named Arfen X. Not joking, that was his name.

Also, *points at the AU idea*. Any feedback? Would anyone read that story?

Ack I did mean to say that seemed really interesting! I would read that. Seems like you have a lot of it figured out, as well, so I say go for it!

the AU, i dont know much about YS but go for it if u want
and ohhhhh, yeah, Arfen X
the way u described him was epic o.o and he kinda reminds me of FNAF for some reason
I KNOW YOUR SECRETS MUAHAHAHA
anyway uh
i actually dont know whether i should make a fanfic about that story idea or not. because if we do get the chance to free write, i'll end up splitting the story into two separate stories and likely stop writing both in the end so idk

I'm actually making a Roleplay, and possibly a story with that plot, based off of Cirque Dans La Rue! It's a good song if you ever need something with a darker theme to write. Honestly, I like writing with darker themes because it shows off the horrors of reality. When I do write happier notes, they're basically like life without the terrors of reality, before you learn it all.

oh
that's deep

Bonus
the plot for the roleplay
Show hidden content
Invite all the carnies / And the crazy acrobats / And bearded ladies / And the fire breathers / All the people just like me.
Welcome to the Cirque Dans La Rue, a place for weird people and Pokemon to be normal! Whether being a hybrid of human and Pokemon, a fusion of multiple Pokemon, anything! But behind that beautiful circus tent is a place to never be forgiven. A place where these 'creatures' are tormented and abused to do the bidding of evil.

A rebellion is forming among the performers of the shows, and you could be one of these rebels. But there are spies living with you, reporting information to the Circus Queen. So the only way for your situation to be known is to escape and not overthrow the Cirque Dans La Rue. A new question forms among you. Will we escape? That's for the future to hold, isn't it?

I listen to music a lot while I write I say as Im listening to This Ain't A Scene, it's an Arms Race, in fact, many of my characters in AWNROP are based off of songs like On My Own, the Mighty Fall, Chainsaw, and Control. I like music, it's very inspiring.

Oh, and go for it, Sora! You too, Fishface!
