First off, I searched "name suggestion" in the forums and got nothing.

My suggestion is simple. A notification in the "other" category whenever someone mentions your username (or whatever you choose) in a post on the forum, feed or comment. Clicking a link under it would send you to the person's userpage/the post.

In settings, there will be an option to turn this on/off and a chart with the words you want to be notified of. Under that, a link to change the words, just like the links page on the userpage.

Quote from Fahad_AliWhenever someone mentions us, a notification on notification page would appear, like "someone has mentioned you in a feed /post / comment " and under it would be a link like "see it here" and that link would lead to a page having links of all the forms /profiles in which we are mentioned, rather than a link that would directly lead us to the profile page/forum post in which we are mentioned.

Quote from Pancake If you have blocked someone, they cannot ping you. This way, if people don't want to be contacted by this user, they won't be able to via this new feature.

Biggest utility would be getting rid of the need to stalk some feeds or subscribing to more posts just for a response from the OP.

Yeah, that's it. Post here whatever else you'd like and I consider wether I should add it here or not.

Credit to Flaaffy for this idea (:

Great idea. It is kinda tough to know if you won a raffle, so this would be useful for that. But it would be tough to implement. But anyways thumbs up (Y) from me.

If you mean an option to turn ping on/off I'll add it now, didn't think about that.

But if you mean an option to set an exact word, it seems unnecesary as everyone refers to the other with their username :/

Yeah, it seems unneeded to me. Feelf free to make this suggestion yourself but I'm not sure it would work xD

One thing caught my interest in your post.
Quotewhenever someone mentions your username in a post on the forum, feed or comment.

I've re-read the entire post quite a few times to see if you mentioning something that I had in mind, which is a big flaw to the suggestion.
One of my former username is 'Craig', a common name. So what if someone has a friend named 'Craig' or has a character named 'Craig'? So I will be getting these ping notifications for no valid reason other than ping mistake?

So to say, a @ added infront of the name of an user to ping them would be nicer to avoid confusion and unnecessary time waste. (Similar to Flight Rising. To ping someone you have to add a @)

the ping system only works when you type an username
no pokemon, no other words
just usernames

Example: @Flaaffy
it will only notify me
no other people

honestly, if it would be like on Flight Rising or deviantART it would be enough

I definitely approve of this suggestion. It'd save me subscribing to art shops.

(Also you wrote "nithing")

I can see how this will be useful.

But what about the times when people use nicknames? For instance, 99% of my friends call me "Saknar" or "Sak". Some call me "SNL" or even "Simple" since the name is too long.
That's one main problem that occurred to me.

Maybe there could a place in the misc. settings where you can type in the words you want to get notified for. In that case, I would add "Saknar", "Simple" and all my nicknames I can think of.

Even if there are feeds where "simple" just refers to the adjective, it was my own interest to look into it as I was the one who added the word. So I don't see a problem if that would be added.... except for people with nicknames that are often used in other sentences or Pokemon names.

Thanks Squill, corrected xD

@-Sen, now Salai's suggestion has a point. I'll do something about that in a moment.

@SimpleNatureLover lol, I was just posting this when you pointed it out.

I thought of it in the first 8 minutes after this feed was created. It just took me time to load and type the stuff. xD

Or maybe I read your mind?

Referring to the concern raised by SimpleNatureLover, it shouldn't be an issue if your friends call you by your nicknames. The feature could simply be such that if you would like to mention someone in your feed, you have to call them out by their username. Only then will they receive their notification. It'd be like Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, where you'd have to type "@[FULL USERNAME]" to be able to mention someone in your feeds/posts.

The ability to mention someone by nicknames would be highly inconvenient. Let's say 2 people have a nickname called Joe and someone mentions "@Joe" in their feed. Both users will receive the notification even though it might have been meant of only one of them. That's why this feature, if implemented, should only allow you to mention full usernames because these would be unique to the person you'd want to mention.

But apart from that the ability to mention someone in your feeds would be rather useful in my opinion :D

That's true, but being able to choose the words that give you notifications would allow anyone to pick anything they know they're called. c:

I assumed people know this risk when they change the word(s). If you don't want to get notifications when Joe is called, leave it just with your username. xD

@David: It would be very inconvenient if someone were to type a username more than 15 characters long, especially on a mobile. But on the other hand, it would be interesting to know if someone were to have the same nickname as you it would not be too hard to (manually) filter out such feeds where a person has mentioned another person by your name.

Update:

I believe I had also mentioned about people being aware of the risks that they would encounter with the words they choose.
