I believe that Rule 1 (Behavior Towards Other Users) may need a slight alteration for the sake of some younger users:

QuotePokéHeroes should be a friendly community-based browsergame for every age. To ensure this, it is forbidden to use offensive swear words or to make any statement that is inappropriate for any age. This is valid for the whole site - including the forum, private messages or your user status.

Based on what Riako has said, "to use offensive swear words" means to curse directly at another user or group of users in an offensive way. However, I think the rule should be expanded to restrict use of ALL swear words, because although they won't offend most users, someone's parents may be looking at what their child is playing and suddenly see a swear word used by another user. This could cause the child to be banned from using the site (by their parents, not the staff, of course) simply because another user used a word that was deemed acceptable by the staff under those circumstances but is not approved of by their parents.

Therefore, I believe that it would benefit a lot of the other users if these words were not allowed, or at least if there was an option under Settings to completely censor them for you (except when they are part of other words) - by completely, I mean literally replacing the whole word with CENSORED or hiding the word from view for the user who has that option turned on.

Edit: If you're not going to support, that's fine, but please either do so for a reason that isn't already addressed or explain why my argument is insufficient.

personally, i think that on a site for clicking pokemon, cursing is NOT needed and NOT acceptable at all, especially considering what you said about children potentially being banned from being on here by their parents, and we should keep this a safe place for people to play on without worrying that someone is going to curse out of the blue

i also like the CENSORED idea very much, but i'm not sure how much effort it would take to censor it site-wide, including gts, about me, pokemon names, etc? (i think it would be worth the effort lol)

Yes! Full support! Like Autumnstar said, cursing definitely isn't needed here.
Oh, but what if a user was talking about dog breeders, or is/was a dog breeder, and used one of the terms that could be mistaken for a curse word?

I'd prefer the term "female dog" just to be safe, but it technically isn't a bad word in that context anyway, so it's probably okay.

Support from me! ^^

If there ended up being an option to enable/disable censoring, I think it would also be a good idea for said option to be enabled by default when a user first joins. And perhaps an age restriction (say, users under age ... can't change the default setting)?

Please tell me you actually read the suggestion.
I appreciate your support, but what you appear to be saying is an alteration is exactly what I'm suggesting. >.>
The ENTIRE suggestion is to make swearing not allowed AT ALL, or at least to have an option to make it so that swearing is censored and does not appear AT ALL.

I support this! Even though my family cusses like sailors and I hear cussing and bad words constantly in my everyday life (but despite it, I do not cuss. At least extremely, since I only say Freaking and crap, which in my opinion are not cuss words. But I know everyone sees that in a different light.), it bothers me to see people saying cuss words on a site that children go to. Again, I support this!

Support from me too - Although I didn't see much swearing here - aside from that one person that put **** into every one of his pokemon's names. But yeah since this is a kid-friendly site the cursing (if there has to be any cursing at all - I personally think that you can write everything without a single curse word but that's just me) should be censored in some way.

I'm neutral as of now. While I do see why you suggested this and why people support this, I think restricting the use of all swear words would be a bit extreme. I don't really understand why 'damn' or 'darn' would be considered offensive in the first place if that's not the writers aim. I mean, would someone consider 'dammit, I just dropped a bowl of soup on the floor!' offensive towards themselves? Someone please enlighten me, I just don't get it.

I want to emphasis I don't support swearing nor do I take it lightly, I just think what you're suggesting here is taking it slightly too far.

I know that they aren't offensive. It's still not a good thing that kids are being exposed to this stuff, and I highly doubt that said kids will be allowed to go back on PokéHeroes if their parents see them reading those words. THAT is why I suggested this (and I said so in my post).
If you still don't support the rule extension, what about the option to censor swearing automatically?

And I said I do uderstand that. :d

As for the automatic swear censoring, I do support it if you have the option to turn it on or off as you please.

i think the light words would be fine and i think the censor or replacing the letters of that word like fwcl< something like that will do

Would hell be banned? I can see how the word can be offensive to religious people, but I see it as a place, not a swear. When writing about demons or afterlife type things, it's kinda a nessecity. Also, maybe if below you had a list of things that weren't swears? I. E., darn, freaking, crap, pancake. I'm pretty sure those arn't considered swears. But the culture might be different elsewhere...

How have I not commented here yet? Haha

Well, I can see how some people say some words aren't swears, but I tell you what: you don't need to say 'damn' or 'hell' ever on this site. Ever. Never ever. So these words being removed would in no way make your posts incomplete. You can just as easily say dang or heck. These words aren't needed, especially when I see people as low as eleven years old here.

You want to swear? Do it PMs or go to a more adult site you know? You don't need to swear, ever, at all. There is always a replacement not swear word out there. Always. Swearing is never necessary on this site ever.

Therefore why not block it out? Or we as users could just not do it at all but sadly some of us just aren't on that same boat haha.

And you don't need a list of what aren't swears. As for what are swears, go call your mom and start going from A-Z of words you think are swears and see which ones get you grounded longer. I'm kidding of course. Don't do that. Don't. However if you want to know a swear word: google! Yes that little helpful search engine we all know and love and erase our search history from.

And if a new word pops up, because in this day and age words are made so often, just add it to the list. And since I'm sure people here aren't planning on swearing up a storm to see what they can say and what they can't, just banning the basics at first should be enough and if one is said that isn't censored then censor it. Ta-da problem solved.

As for turning off automatic censoring what would the point be? That's like turning a rule on and off haha. It's either of everyone or no one if it's a rule.

I support the rule extension. No one needs to swear, ever ever ever on this site. Ever. It's just not necessary to push the envelop on swear words when we have ten and eleven year olds around seeing it thinking it's okay to say it where in their culture it might not be okay.

I'd not support total censor but I would support three stages.
Strong censoring - No curse words visible, everything is replaced by ****
(Would be automatically set for newly joined users)
Mild censoring - Mild swear words (aka damn or stuff like that) is visible.
No censoring - What it says. All swear words would be visible.

That way users could choose their preferences and younger users would be safe. :>

I was going to suggest an age limit type thing. Such as if someone was born in a certain year they'd automatically have a certain censor. I've seen other sites when you out your birthday some stuff is locked due to age restriction. When you give a choice to the user over whether or not they want to see swears, it's not really up to them. At a certain age it should be up to the parents, so going by birthdate would be easier than letting users just choose.

Users had to give their birthdays when registering for the site. Building on Honi's comment, why not have it to where the censoring is strong until you're a certain age, then you get the other two options? (default on strong, no matter what, just the availability of the other options changes)

And, like WaningGrimalkin said, Hell can be used for several different reasons, even as a specific location when referring to demons or a range of other creatures in fanfics or RPs. (Personally, I find other names for a hellish location to go around that word and make it my own world, but I know some people don't want to do that if there's no real need to do so)\r\nSo this word is one that would need to be considered with "do we want to block it or not" as it can be used as a mild swear or as a location. (Though being blocked as a minor swear shouldn't be that bad)
