How about there could be some sort of function where we could just
show a regular smilie that looked like this: :D, instead of this: :D .
There could be a little checkbox under the text box that says
"disable smilies from your post" like on sites like Chicken
Smoothie. Of course, this isn't really overly important and it's
just kind of cosmetic I guess. I would like to see what you guys
would think about it.
(If something like this has already been suggested or rejected,
feel free to lock it. I didn't really see it anywhere, though.)
Support.
Some of the smiley expressions annoy me, too. Like Diana said, they
sometimes just don't represent what you wanted to express with a
certain smiley.
Probably not a "better" way but it's the only other way I know.
XD
You can get around the auto replacement by size-formatting the
smiley text. Just put the smiley text - ONLY the smiley text, no
additional text, no spaces! - like this:
:D
It'd look like this: :D. You
have to do the format instruction for every single smiley though,
and this only works in the forum, not feeds.
I edited the colour of your font in your posts because it's nearly
impossible to read on blue background.
Please don't choose aggressive colours like that which hurt the eye
with their contrast to the background colour.

directed to you personally but to everyone.
i'd support if the option was for the person to turn their own
smilies off to other people, instead of having all the smilies of
other people turned off
personally, i like the smilies as they are, if i want to convey my
internet faces through them to other people i should have that
option (the happyface text faces just seem weeeeeird to me lol)
I support because, I am sure like others have experienced, we hate
when we are writing something and it ends up like this
etc: and we write something here. Instead of seeing
etc: and we write something here
you see that smile. I have accidentally written smilies when I
don't want to just because the last letter I write is a c followed
by : and then I have to try and rewrite something. So this would be
good for people who accidentally write smiles when they don't want
to.
