When you resend your Pokemon to rumble on route 102, you get the time drop down list and you don't get the map selection. in comparison with the Galar map, where you get the chance to change the map you want to send your Pokemon on.

Can you check if it is busy currently? rumble Missions, set up for trade at the GTS etc. It can't evolve if it is busy :)

Cooking Pot Updates

Your trusty cauldron in which you cook teacakes, terracotta and (most presently) tonics has just been made easier to use! A Quality-of-Life (QoL) update initially suggested by drafang62 was implemented by the admin, Riako this Tuesday. You can now select a dish to be cooked multiple times at once, all at the click of one button, saving you the effort of navigating the menu several times.

Additionally, you can prioritise lower or higher berry levels, within the confines of your stock. For example, if you're working on your berrydex, you might wish to only use lower level berries, whereas for the Berry Battle, it may be optimal to use up your higher level berries. You can still change this selction manually, as has previously been the case. See an example below:

Feature Article:

The Berry Battle!

The Berry Battle, a competition hosted by May of the Devon Corporation, wages on into its second week! Who can cook the most Hoenn Tonics? There have already been nine winners, some of whom the PH Times had the pleasure of speaking to!

In this longer-form article, we spoke to several Pokéheroes players who had different strategies, opinions and tips about the ongoing Berry Battle. Let us know your thoughts (PalPad or Private Message me anytime!) on this new format of opinion and information piece. Cloudfairy likes the principle, expressing the idea that it could get more people involved and invested with the Times. "I mean I'll definitely be curious to see who said what," she commented.

What you can win:

Everyone gets a prize! Everyone who participates in a day (by entering any number of Hoenn Tonics - even just one) will receive some festival points. We spoke to Zellane, a site-wide renowned gardener, who described her findings:
Quote from Zellane[Y]ou get a certain amount of Festival Points per Tonic you turn in but you also gain a bonus from where you place.
So, entering the same number of Tonics on two different days and coming in different places on the leaderboard will get you a different number of festival points at the end of the day. Hard work is rewarded by the Tonic, but the Berry Battle is exactly that - a battle - and doing better than everyone else pays off too!

In addition to festival points, there are some rare items, and even a Pokémon, on the line - see the spoiler for details!

The first time you qualify for the Battle, you unlock a special rumble area - Route 102. When you have this map, which you may have from a Battle in a previous year, you can get an upgrade for it by ranking among the top 50 players in one of the battles. Once this has been unlocked, the top 50 may receive a prize of a special fishing rod (the King Rod) for use at Emera Beach. If you have all these key items already, each day you rank among the top fifty, you get a limited-edition Retro Pokémon - May's favourite! Let's check it out, shall we?

Bellossom (Retro)

Word on the street has it that each Retro Bellossom has a 2% chance of being shiny!

Managing your garden:

It can be difficult taking care of all your plants, nurturing them with water and fertilisers, all the while preparing an ample supply of seeds and filling your cooking pot with the ingredients, stirring when necessary.

It's particularly difficult when different gardens have different fertilities, and different berries have different growing speeds and levels required, because all your berries end up finishing at different times. Perhaps it's best to plant them in blocks, so you don't end up fragmenting your real estate: Qiaokeli, who's ranked among the top ten no fewer than six times this season, does whole gardens at a time of just one berry. Having unlocked all four gardens, he used the first two gardens (a total of 84 slots, with a medium fertility) for Pumkin berries, the third garden (96 slots, but a slower growing rate) for Eggant berries, and the fourth (just 27 slots, but berries grow most quickly here) for Drash berries. This was fairly balanced, but he still recommends keeping track of your stock and adjusting accordingly if you're low on one berry or the other.

TheLemonLord's strategy is quite different. He has three of the gardens unlocked, and has hit the ranklist for the first time this Sunday. At the moment, they work on solely Pumkin berries most of the time, and works in a third of the other two whenever she falls below 100 of either. Keeping a good stock seems to be a common theme of most success stories we heard: Snowfrost makes sure to always have 500 Pumkin berries rotating between seeds and garden, such that you never run out of berries to make new seeds from.

Taking care of your levels is another way of ensuring you can stay on top of everything. Of course, the higher the level is, the more slowly it grows, so keeping the berries no more than one level above the threshold (lvl2 for Eggant/Drash and lvl5 for Pumkin) is ideal. Usually, around 20-30% of berries get ranked up to the next level when they're turned into seeds - the plan Zellane (who's come fifth place or better six times) holds to involves planting these higher level seeds, and using them solely for making tonics. She estimates that 9 in 10 of her tonics are made from these higher level berries, and the majority of the correctly-levelled berries get turned back into seeds to multiply in the fields.

Time management may also prove difficult - remembering to visit the garden every now and then is my most throttling vice. Keep track of your waiting periods, and try to minimise (ideally eliminate) the time your gardens spend fallow.
Quote from Qiaokeli[K]eep grinding, but make sure to not overdo it, cuz you wouldn't wanna lose track of your [IRL] responsibilities[.]

Taking advantage of May's Green Thumb, the feature that boosts the growth of all your Hoennian berries, is one way of spending time while you wait for seeds to grow and berries to cook. You can activate the thumb by feeding 200 berries to Pokémon - using clicklists with mostly hatched 'mons, such as "Random Clicklist", is quickest - and heading to the Berry Battle page. This cuts a quarter off your growth times. The most fun part is that it stacks multiplicatively: activating it once cuts an hour of waiting time down to 45 minutes, and activating it again (after feeding 200 more berries, of course) cuts that down to around 34. Most interviewees I spoke to activate it around twice per batch, when they're at home at least, but Qiaokeli (who actually holds second place on the ranklist for most berries fed) says they activate it up to ten times per batch (which would cut an hour down to 3 minutes, 23 seconds) - by which point the berries are probably all grown!

Tips from the top:

Rack up the tonics over several days. By simply not collecting your tonics when they're brewed, they can stack up over two or more days and become much more numerous than if you entered them immediately. Personally, this is certainly the only chance I have at getting into the top ten on any one day. Snowfrost, who was first place on the leaderboard at the time of writing, says that their “success for today has been three days of buildup”, and that most days they end up around 50th on the leaderboard.

Invest in some upgrades. If you're not an experienced gardener, it's worthwhile to upgrade all your seed makers to the maximum, so you don't spend as much time filling them up and you can have longer queues. The same goes for the cooking pot. Having more gardens can increase your throughput a lot, but they're quite large investments so it's not absolutely necessary for success.

Stock up - and not just on the Hoennians. Make sure you always have a small backlog of each of the three required berries, so when you start running low you can make sure to focus on that one and prevent any downtime in your cooking pot. But you should also make sure you have an ample supply of other berries to feed to Pokémon as part of May's Green Thumb. Consensus among experts seems to reocmmend Oran and Cheri berries, which are easy to grow and often available at the Item Shop (check daily to get the best offers!). Oran has a lot of flavours, so is preferred by most of Pokémon, as can be seen in your Berrydex.

Plan. Although this isn't always an explicitly given tip, everyone we spoke to was able to explain with quite a lot of detail how they managed their gardens and seed makers. Take a minute to work out which seeds and berries you need more of at the moment. As TheLemonLord put it, "plan how you distribute [the berries] between the seed makers, because you'll [lose] a lot of time to that". Snowfrost recommends making sure you never run out of berries: “if you use up them all for tonics and only have 1 left, you're basically back to square 1 again. But if you have 500 level 5 [P]umkin berries in rotation, you can make maximum tonics, while growing some, and making some to seeds. And constantly keeping track of if you can harvest or make more seeds.”

Don't stress yourself! It's important to balance life and video games, so don't feel pressured or stressed by the competition to be fanatical about logging onto Pokéheroes. Everyone we spoke to, at all levels of the pecking order, echoed this.

The Berry Battle will end on the 19th of September

This article was written on Sunday the 8th of September and some details may have changed by the time of reading.

If you have any comments regarding what our interviewees said, please send them to the PokéHeroes Times staff, i.e. me, instead of taking them up with the interviewees. We’re always looking for comments and feedback!

Minor Updates

Paldea Research tasks requiring a specific rarity or type will now give you more points compared to hatching any old egg, because (as Riako explained in the Minor Updates post) "finding specific eggs is a lot more difficult than just adopting and hatching random eggs."

In the same post, Riako also announced that the next Paldea Research event will start in October. His current plan "is to always have them run for 2 months and then give players one months of a break, before the next one starts" - what do you think of this? Write to us (via PalPad or Private Message to BoomBoy) with your thoughts!

Announced in the same thread, the latest few Event Pokémon are now available at the Event Shop: Solaris and the two Chingling variations. Until the 20th of September, you can buy a combo pass for both Chingling (Daydream) and Chingling (Nightmare) for two-thirds off!

Weekly Fun Fact

In each edition of the PH Times, you get a fact! If you're lucky they might also be interesting!

The word “calculus” originally meant “small pebble,” as in the primary part of an abacus, an ancient calculator for arithmetic. It’s related to the word “chalk”.

The big achievement
Congratulations, EeveeXO! Your Johto-Dex is now complete!

Wow, really can't believe it... you achieved this huge goal and helped me so much with my research! I still remember the day when I gave you your Starter-Pokémon, Treecko. Well, time flies by... I'm already getting a bit sentimental.
Anyway, the whole PokéHeroes Staff and all residents of Emera Town want to congratulate you!
Please take this certificate: it is proof of completing the Johto-Dex.

Nevertheless, I have something else to talk about with you. I found this mysterious coloured egg recently on a rumble Mission and I tried hard to hatch it, but with no success at all. I'm not sure if one could even hatch it - and if it even contains a Pokémon. But... the mystery behind it is fascinating me and I really want to uncover it.

I feel like it contains something very rare and special...

Do you think you can hatch it?

Full support.
Also a thought:
Completing the dex for Alola means less time waiting for the Tall Grass and/or boosted Nebula Stone drop from Alola rumble
Completing Johto means decreased cost for the Johto Legendaries in the game center instead of (or in addition to) Mewtwo
Completing Hoenn Dex means reduced Tall Grass waiting time on the Eon Eggs and the ability to choose which Lati@s egg drops from the Eon summon
Unova Completion: the weather legends calm down and are slower running around the safari zone. Maybe a boosted chance for White Powder missions to drop in the berry garden
Kalos: reduced cost in gem area for the Zygardes
Hisui: Completing the egg dex makes Enamorus breedable (maybe? Idk this one)

I believe something should be implemented where if the Pokemon loses the battle against one of the legendary birds that it does indeed actually come back with some type of item where you can then try again to defeat it, because if you don't manage to win the battle it tells you the Pokemon comes back with an item in it's bag.

If you look it says "Galar (Map)" in the rumble bag after losing but you actually receive nothing. I think it's kind of unfair considering you never know which type will strike which Pokemon etc, so you really can't have a "perfect party" at a high enough level to send unless you're lucky. As an example even though it's Psychic/Dark my Shadow Mewtwo is a high enough level that it does indeed beat ALL birds regardless of type but it isn't always the one it lands on. So sending nothing but Electric Pokemon because it's good against all doesn't necessarily mean anything especially if they aren't high enough level, it's not a failsafe, end-all be all.

I find it frustrating when the one I need will hit one of the ONLY Pokemon who can't defeat a certain bird and that Pokemon is there to defeat other birds. It telling you after defeat that it's going to bring you home a map and doesn't, should either implement an item for you to try again or remove it all together. It's the only rumble area like this so it really would benefit us who actually hunt and need the feathers to have an extra opportunity due to said circumstances.

Could we possibly increase the odds as well?

I ran across this potential bug for quite while where the pop-up for Pokemon hatching doesn't allow you to click on anything to the right of it. I ran across this quite a lot when I'm refreshing my rumble mons. I always wondered if this was an intentional feature or has just flown under the radar for a long time or not.
I'm not sure if this is a browser issue or not. Just hoping to get an answer if possible.

TY for your time.
