I bought the Egg Radar just so I could go to the Tall Grass and grab random eggs, but there’s no grass. I’m not interested in searching for any Pokémon because I just need any random eggs, but it won’t let me see any, it just says this:

Tall Grass

Be aware of pugnacious Pokémon!

Select a Pokémon

You can search for every egg species in the tall grass that is recorded in your Pokédex.
The number next to the Pokémon Name indicates the number of eggs with this species in the wild.

No Pokémon selectable.
You may need special Upgrade Chips to search for different Pokémon Types. You can buy them at the Item Shop!
There are a total of 29,559 eggs in the wild.

Edit: I guess I’ll just go ahead and buy the Easy chip since it’s only a hundred PD, but I really don’t understand why I’d need something that’s just for identifying a specific type of egg.

Edit 2: I guess it’s searching for the eggs now. I’ll have to see if it works. I have no idea how it’s supposed to work. I just saw someone earlier asking for people with an egg radar chip they didn’t have to tell them whether there were eggs from a certain type of Pokémon in the grass, and I don’t understand why they would’ve been asking that if you can’t get the eggs without the radar chip.

Edit 3: Is it a bad thing when wild Pokémon attack you? The wiki doesn’t say anything about that...

If you just want random eggs, you'll want to use Rowan's lab. The tall grass is mainly a tool for shiny hunters. It allows you to search for specific eggs that you have recorded it your egg dex so you can hunt them. It isn't necessarily for 'just any random eggs'. Additionally, you can only hunt for eggs you have the rarity chip for(Ex Easy chip for easy rarity eggs)

It is necessary for the random eggs that I am in need of that I can’t talk about because you’re not allowed to talk about this thing. I specifically need eggs from the tall grass for this specific reason that I can’t talk about. Maybe you know what I’m talking about or not. But I could get in trouble if I try to explain it, I guess.

If it's for a badge or something, you just need to put it in

tags. Considering I have no clue what you're referring to, I can't help you any further unless you explain it 😅

It’s not a badge. And, okay: SPOILER ALERT,

it’s for the Harvest Sprite quest. You just need 250 random eggs from the Tall Grass for Bold, right?

But it seems like I’m never going to be able to get any eggs with these wild Pokémon attacking me and making me wait several more minutes each time :/

Yes. though I believe that particular sprite was meant to be obtained on a shiny hunt or something. Just adopt 250 eggs via the radar. Though again, you need to own the rarity chip for that Pokémon's rarity. I'd also recommend buying the egg radar upgrade that greys out spots containing wild Pokémon, so you can find them faster. Though for easy rarity it shouldn't be too hard.

As for if it's a bad thing is wild Pokémon attack: Not necessarily, it just means you need to wait a bit to try again.

Is there any way to interpret the messages the wild Pokémon give? It seems like it’s totally random whether it chooses to say “But you are very close” or “ The egg should not be far away”. I’m only using the Easy chip and there are only nine grass patches, by the way, and the wiki says that the grass square you pick will be the center of the range and it’ll say that first thing if the egg would be within a 3 x 3 range and the second thing if it would be within a 5 x 5 range. So I picked the upper left one, and it said the first thing, which told me that the egg would have to be in the middle, upper middle, or middle left square, and then I picked the lower right one, and it said the same thing, which told me that the egg would have to be in the middle square; but then it wasn’t in the middle square, despite what the wiki said to be true.

"But you are very close"
It means that the egg is right beside you

“ The egg should not be far away”
Probably 2 grass away Idk how to word it out

No, it’s not working that way.

Maybe the tall grass is glitching, because it’s also sometimes automatically refreshing the page after I get attacked by a Pokémon and sometimes not.

Where was the Egg?
The refreshing has no effect on thr location of your Egg. However, if the Tall Grass is empty and you need to restart your Egg hunt once an Egg is added, the location is reset.

You should check out the Tall Grass Wiki Page for more info. List of all Tall Grass related Items and descriptions: [X]

Edit: The wiki page is missing some information - Meltan can be found with a Meltan Candy (obtained through Mystery Boxes), with the Egg Radar Chip (Legend). The Alola and Galar chips will be available at the Item Shop once you have completed their respective quests. You also cannot get Special rarity eggs from the Tall Grass. It's missing any reference to the Egg Radar Notificator and Tracker (See item list above)

It seems to be working now, and it’s stopped doing that weird sometimes not refreshing after a wild Pokémon attacks thing.

Edit: Never mind about the refreshing thing—it just failed to refresh again. Hopefully the egg-locating instructions will still work properly.

As I mentioned before, the (lack of) refresh has no effect on the location of the Egg.
