not sur if this has been answered before, but do you have to have a pokeradar to start a shiny hunt?

I exist, only sometimes.

Not necessarily. You can hunt and get shinies without it, you just won't get the benefits of having a chain

A chain significantly increases the shiny chain the more you hatch, maxing out shiny chance at 40 hatched
Without a shiny chain, the regular shiny chance is < 0.1%
With a shiny chain, the chance is 1.375% without premium and 2.75% chance with premium
