You know why, he thought ruefully.
He had to come here if he wanted to make it big. No one would notice him if he graduated from some mediocre, under-the-radar place. No one would see him. No one would love him. He'd simply... become Adrik again-
And I will never let that happen!
The jarring thought jerked him back to attention. School. Right! School! He had to get in before the first ceremony was finished!
He looked down at his shoes. Nope. Tied. Not tripping. No cliché worst first impressions coming on him today. Safe. This was fine. This was all totally fine. He just had to not embarrass himself today. Then he could goof up on every other day- Except he couldn't. Okay, well, time to die.
With a final exhale and straightening of his shoulders, he took the final step to the door, creaked it open- And promptly slammed it shut. Nope. Just nope. No. Cannot do it. Will not do it-
Had to do it.
He sighed, scratched his spiky hair with one hand, adjusted his glasses with the other, then opened the door... and closed it as quietly as he could behind him. Keeping his head down, Adrik made his way up the aisles and sat down next to a girl with black hair with a smile as big as the sun.
He turned to stare straight ahead, avoiding eye contact as best he could. This would be fine. This would all be fine... Just... wait for the teacher.
Suddenly, a woman swept into view. She looked in her prime despite being a decade past, with thunder-blonde hair that flowed in straight lines and stopped just below her chest. She had sharp green eyes that had a comforting look, a sharp contrast to her all-black robe, which flowed down and stopped at her ankles, just covering the top inch of her boots of matching color. As soon as she entered, her powerful aura was enough to draw all eyes to her. "Welcome, students! This is a new year at the SS School For Shapeshifters, the finest all-acceptance shapeshifting school this side of the galaxy! Be warned, this year will not be easy. In contrast to the near-nonexistent student entry requirements, the teachers here are nothing but the best of the best. We have a perfect record of graduates, with all having a noticable presence in the world of magic. You have all given us input via mail on what courses and activities would best suit you, and we have done our best to give you a good learning experience! All of you should have a schedule with the locations and times for everything, including your dorm rooms, lockers, and classes. We will give you a few minutes to make aquaintences and check your schedules, then you will be dismissed to your dorms. Any questions?" Her sharp green eyes scanned the crowd, taking in the collection of different students. With that, she turned into a glowing white dove and perched on the mic stand.

"Wow, she sure is something, huh?" I turned to the boy beside me, smiling. "What's your name?"
His hand inched for his backpack.
Luna started to look around, wondering if anyone would recognize her. She had sat a row behind a girl with black hair, and noticed a boy sitting down earlier. She sighed, looked around again. She felt like some eyes were on her, like she was being watched. It wasn't a good feeling, especially not for her.
Luna had started muttering to herself, but she could barely hear herself over the rash noises of other students yelling. She sighed, unzipping her backpack and shuffling through. "Come on, come on..." She said. Luna didn't even know what she would be looking for; a book, her phone, or anything to entertain her, really.
His eyes widened and he quickly blurted out, "I mean, if that's okay, y'know. Doesn't have to be!"
" Uhh hi... I'm Luna. Sorry if I come across as rude interrupting your conversation, but I feel like you guys would be good people to hang out with"
She said, then cringing at the message.

Well, that couldn't be that bad, right? If the book suggested it.
He hoped his face wasn't as red as it felt.
