Fortrem tilted his head, and gave a small smile. "I guess... youre right." It was true, he realised, it wasn't a tournament... but his parents wanted him to be a better fighter, so it wasn't too different. "Okay," he braced himself. The sun was on the horizon already. Ah, shoot, he thought, it would be awkward to shift into dusk form while we're battling... he shook the thought away. No turning back now. He braced his feet on the ground. "Okay, I'm ready, then."

"Buddy, you're gonna faint if you go much longer..." Meka sounded genuinely concerned for this vulpix.

"Just a little more! Then I'll quit!" He had enjoyed her praise at the beginning of the session, and was now determined to impress her. He was going to be a legend himself one day, right? Time to gain that reputation. This time he used powder snow to make the sword straight in his mouth, ran up, and slashed at her, though he was slow due to the pain holding him back.

Meka dodged easily. "If you say so." She figured he'd stop after she landed another hit, and she used psychic on him again. But he had clearly payed attention to her lesson, and barely managed to evade it. She used aura sphere again.

Winter hastily used ice shard to counter the attack, his limbs begging him to give in and rest, but no. There was a whole lot less strategy in his next moves, he was just pulling random bits of a technique off the top of his head and hoping they'd work.

“Alright!” She took a deep breath and flew into the air, distancing herself from Fortrem. She decided that she might as well do the first move, an Ice Beam. She wouldn’t use it like a normal attack, but instead “decorate” the arena with it. She was quite weird like that, but then again, this was all just for fun to her. She fired the Ice Beam about 3 feet to the right of Fortrem, making a large spike of ice. She then continued to fire the beam behind him, creating more spikes. She did this until he was almost fully enclosed in the ice. It created almost a dome, like an igloo.

Fortrem yelped as she fired the first icebeams, then got used to the cold. Hmm... she was changing the terrain, maybe he could use a rock throw off of them? He sent some rocks at the edges of the dome, at an angle that would hopefully bounce and hit the bird pokemon.

Meka wasn't really having any of it. She teleported behind the Vulpix's back and used aura sphere point blank. There was no room to dodge, and he fell to the ground with a howl. She started to circle him. "You should really stop now." Her voice was more gentle than normal, as she was actually fond of this vulpix.

Winter groaned..."Okay." He could barely get up. He wasn't fainted, but he was aching all over. "Thanks."

She pulled him to the side of the arena, using her own recover to heal him. "By the way, my name's Meka. That was a good battle." She praised him, sounding a little tired.

Winter half wanted to take advantage of the heal up and take her on again, but he knew that was kind of petty for a wannabe warrior, so he took the praise. "Thanks. My name is Winter."

"Winter, huh? Cool" She winked at him

"Yeah. My parents weren't all too creative. My sister's name is Summer." He laughed, completely missing Meka's pun.

She had seen the rocks just in time to dodge them. She swerved out of their path, but was unlucky enough to get some stuck in her fluffy wing. She sighed and watched the wolf carefully, trying to find a good place to attack. For some reason, she wasn’t doing her normal, playful tactics but instead actually trying to battle. This was weird, but it seemed like a good change so far. She fired another ice beam, this time near Fortrem’s feet


Moon Blast | Dragon Pulse | Ice Beam | Ominous Wind is her moveset as an Altaria

Fortrem panicked as the beam of ice flew towards him. He instinctively jumped, unintentionally summoning a flat, stone edge rock beneath him. Huh... maybe flat stones did have good uses? He tried raising the rock. It was much easier to just control the one. The rock lifted him up. He was higher than the altaria! Maybe he could land a hit?

She looked curiously at the rocks, wondering why they weren’t pointy like they should be. She noticed the same, flat stones when she watched his match with the other Lycanroc, coming to a conclusion that they either did this intentionally, or they haven’t yet mastered a real Stone Edge. Since she was so caught up in her thinking, she didn’t realize that she was completely vulnerable. Getting off track was one of her many weaknesses...

Fortem took the opportunity, and leaped off the rock, going for a bite attack. The astral jaws connected, mostly on the white fluff, but little bit around the altaria's neck. Fortem immediately regreted it, not feeling satisfaction. He let go of the pokemon, and they both hit the ground. "Oh shoot, shoot, are you alright?" He asked in a hurry. "Sorry!" He got up to the altaria to look where he'd grabbed. It was bleeding slightly, which made Fortem wince.

She winced as she surprisingly landed safely on the ground. The wound hurt, but it wasn’t as bad as anything else she endured. Wow... This Lycanroc was quite a weird one... Who would apologize after an attack? This made her very interested on who this guy was. Maybe they could be friends one day? She almost transformed back into a Mew heal her wound much easier, but she stopped herself. It would be pretty awkward to see an Altaria transform into a pretty ugly looking Mew... She shuddered a bit and looked at Fortrem with a smile. “I’m fine! No need to worry!”

Fortem took some deep breaths, and his widened eyes slowly closed to normal. "Thank goodness," He said. "Sorry... I don't like looking at others getting hurt..." He paused for a moment. "Ah, I don't think I ever gave you my name! I'm Fortem," He told the altaria. Suddenly, he began to glow bluish white, like a pokemon might look when evolving. A split second later, he was a bright orange dusk lycanroc. "Oh," He said. "Ah, I guess its sunset... my family changes form depending on the time of day," He explained.

“I understand, I don’t really like to hurt others either.” She casually said, watching in fascination as he transformed. “Woah! That’s so cool! I wish I could do stuff like that!” Of course that was a lie. She always felt bad telling lies, but this one didn’t bother her. Maybe it was because she momentarily forgot that she could? “Oh, I don’t think I told you mine either. I’m Valkyrie! Nice to meet you Fortrem!”

Winter and Meka sat back, watching the others battle in silence. Meka could probably battle a little more, but honestly, it sounded pretty 'meh' right about now, after she'd just introduced herself to Winter. Most friends didn't stay long, so she tried to enjoy them while she could. In fact, she hadn't seen any of her old friends in a long time.

Winter watched the rather pathetic battle of the Altaria and the lycanroc. Why were they fighting one second, and staring at each other the next? It seemed like useless training to him. Of course, he was out of earshot, so he couldn't hear what they were saying, but it seemed out of place in an area of rough play.

"Valkyrie? Thats a quite cool name!" He remarked. "As for the form changing... I'd rather skip it entirely. In an hour or so, I'll be bipedal, which I still haven't gotten used to," He began. "Besides, theres not much difference between forms... and also, my parents take pride in it," Fortem continued. He wasn't so sure why he was confiding so much in this one pokemon, but it felt really good to get it off his chest. "They're knights, and keep pressuring me to be a better fighter... and I know they want the best for me, and I don't want to let them down, but I also don't know if fighting is what's right for me, y'know?" He told Valkyrie. "Ah, sorry, I'm ranting now."

She listened to the info with great interest. She could understand suddenly going quadruped or bipedal, then having to get used to it. At least she could somehow co trio it, but Fortrem didn’t seem to. She never really had parents, so she didn’t get the whole “we do what’s best for you” thing. “Woah, you’re parents are knights? Like at the castle? Cool!” She chirped. “Understandable... Fighting doesn’t suit me either.” She tilted her head again, trying to get used to his new look. She liked it, it seemed really cool. The orange really suited him. She decided not to think about it for too long, since she usually would just spend hours trying to think about it. “You’re fine! I like to listen to these things!”

"Thanks," Fortem said. "For listening, I mean. Also the battle." He felt he sounded pretty awkward. "Anyway... I might head home soon, it's getting late." He flicked his tail. "And I've probably spent too much time here talking instead of battling, like the place is meant for... well, I'll see you around, Valkyrie!" Fortem said cheerfuly, happy to have made a new friend (aquaintence? He was still paranoid about his relationships, but he'd work on that later). He padded out of the arena, enjoying the sunset, and remembered to pick up his scarf from under the rock. Then, he headed to his bed in one of the castle wings, and thankfully, fell asleep before shifting into midnight form (he could never sleep after he shifted to midnight form, due to nocturnalism).

*Mamoru left the arena, headed to the Anthian District, bought herself a microwaveable bowl of ramen and headed home, she lived in a studio apartment with a kitchen and bedroom connected to the living room so she could see the TV while she cooked the ramen, she turned the TV on while the water boiled and made the ramen once the water had boiled enough*

*Blade saw Fortem leave and wondered if he would get to battle at all, since surely more people were gonna leave soon*
