Cache Hunters Club (Geocaching)
Forum-Index → Fan Clubs → Inactive Clubs → Cache Hunters Club (Geocaching)Edit: I will add however, that there is one person (outside of the club) who has found the "cache" with no help, so it is possible...
Speaking of finding caches, I found my 60th cache today! :D A really easy one, but in quite a lovely location. I have now reached the point that all caches within walking distance of my house are all found, and as I don't drive I'm now relying on other people driving me places to find new caches. It is a rather big achievement by my thinking, as I can walk for up to 6 hours a day on average (depending on terrain of course) so "within walking distance" for me means quite a large area.
Important Stuff
On Monday I will be leaving for a week to go to a creative arts camp (sooooo excited!). This means I won't be online much, so if you have any questions or problems, please contact our club mini-mod, Nessy. I will possibly be on every now and then to check on things, but won't be replying to posts or PM's until I get back.
I am planning quite a big update for the club when I return from camp, including new badges and challenges, but before I get too far along with that, I really would like to know who is still subscribed to this club. So, if you are still hanging around but haven't posted here since I announced the virtual cache challenge, please post to let me know you are still active here. To avoid it being marked as spam, please also say if there is anything you would like to see added to the club.
I went to sleep at 2am and my father woke me up at 7.30. I was pretty sleepy and we went to the park 3 kilometres away from our house. It was my second time there. I knew where the cache was. I found it in less than 30 seconds. Then we just had breakfast at the supermarket and went home : D
I haven't been geocaching much lately either. The last time I found a cache was in the middle of December. I was visiting home for the holidays and someone had just recently hidden a cache like a kilometer away from my home. I first looked for it when I was returning from a Turisas concert (it was nicely quiet with no muggles around since it was 2 am) and I did find it quickly but I was just a bit too short. Like always. Curse my shortness. I kinda gave up right away since it was raining and I was tired. And then I returned to the cache site few days later with a tree log to give me those few extra centimeters I needed. Had no troubles that time. :p
It's been hellishly cold in Finland recently though (it's -22 Celsius outside now and it's been worse) so I probably won't be doing much geocaching for a while. :,D
Sorry everyone!
I'm on holiday now, so I should be able to get the update finished over the next couple of days, and I'll chat to the mods about getting this moved back, that is if anyone is still interested...?
Anyway, to try and get things moving again in the meantime, let's have a little event...
EARTH DAY EVENT
Over the next couple of days (depending on your timezone) it will be Earth Day. A special day when we think about our impact on the planet and make some positive changes to make our world a special place. I figure we can do our bit, each in our own little corner of world, and have some caching fun at the same time.
So we are going to do our own version of "Cache In, Trash Out". For those of you who haven't herd about it, it's basically when you bring a trash bag with you on your caching adventure and tidy up any litter you see along the way.
To participate in this event, you simply need to do a "Cache In, Trash Out", post a picture or two from your day and tell us about it, and you will receive a special new badge! There will also be a special prize pack raffled off among the people who participate in this event.
Because I know some people have commitments which mean they can't cache on certain days, I'm going to give you guys 2 weeks to participate in this event! From April 22nd to May 6th.
Happy Caching!
The Earth Day event sounds pretty neat and I shall try to arrange some time for it. (Thanks for the time you gave, I would've had no hope of participating otherwise. :])
Oooh, speaking of new members, a new member is arriving soon! His name is Tealmer and he loves Geocaching, but he's a bit shy. He'll be doing quite a lot in the club, so I'm sure everyone can help out by giving him a warm welcome.
Introducing Tealmer
You see that little pink guy floating through the first post? That's Tealmer, our new club pokemon. He's a phantump with a difference, each season he changes colour in order to better blend in with his changing environment. His pink hues this season help him blend in with the sprig-time blossoms. He's been geocaching ever since one day when he found a cache completely by accident. He's been hooked ever since, though prefers hiding caches, rather than finding them, and hiding nearby to see peoples reactions when they discover the cache.
New Badges
Yup, as promised I have added some brand new badges! But the images are hidden for now. If you want to see what they look like then you'll have to earn them. ;)
Challenges
There is also a brand new section called "challenges", which are "caches" hiding right here on Pokeheroes. There are 75 to find, with varying levels of difficulty, and badges for completing each step.
Events
Another new section, where I will be putting information about club events, like Earth Month (which has been extended to the end of May). Participating in the events can help earn you badges and even some cool prizes!
How long have you been a cacher?: I just started :p
Do you prefer hiding, finding or both?: I don't know yet, I would think both
How many caches have you found/hid?: None
Did someone tell you about the club, if so, who?: You!!!!!!!!!! ( I saw your post)
Why do you want to join?: Geocaching seems very fun
Password: C:
I might go look for one now, its only 4.7 miles away :P
So I have a question, if I go to one I open it, write my name then leave somthing and take one (optional)???
Make sure you check out our current Earth Month event listed in the first post, it would be a great way to start off your geocaching adventure!
In answer to your question, yes. There will be a log book where you can write the date and your caching name (the one you signed up with at geocaching.com). Some caches will have small, cheap trinkets in them known as swag. Usually things like marbles, small toys, keyrings etc. If you want to take something from the cache then you also need to leave something for the next person. If you don't want to take anything then you don't have to leave anything (but you can if you want). Make sure you take a pen or pencil with you as some caches will be too small to include one.
Most importantly, have fun!
That aside: The official app marks anything with a 1.5 difficulty/terrain or higher as needing premium in order to view it. (It also marks multi-caches and mystery caches premium only, at least on mom's phone) If you are on Android, there is a different app that only marks premium caches as premium. (I use that app)
As for a disabled listing: If you can click it, still, then you can see why it was disabled. One of the staff or Cache Owner usually posts a reason to disable or archive a listing.
I actually have caused a few listings to get disabled before because there was something going on in the area that potentially disrupted the cache, so the owner disabled the listing so that they could go check on it and do any maintenance that needed t be done. (I also got two caches archived because the owner decided they weren't going to keep up with them and the cache container itself was so far gone that it couldn't be salvaged...)
