Support!
A few additions-

In the case of unbanned users
The suggestion could be implemented as it is. The procedure could be-:
1. Upon reporting, a mod can change the username to blocks and perhaps get locked.

In case of unbanned users
The case should be a bit different here, it should be by default that if a user is permanent banned, the username will be changed be [BANNED USER] or similar.[b]

unbanned user twice
Or maybe banned users could be [BANNED USER 134], [BANNED USER 135], and so on.

Wouldn't it be wiser to censor the offensive part of their usernames instead of replacing them entirely with (BANNED USER ##)?

I'm suggesting it to happen with every banned user because-
1. What this thread is for, offensive usernames.
2. It might be an entirely different issue, but sometimes banned users have usernames which others might want to use, but can't.

In response to PkmnTrainerV (no. 2) - We are not gonna take away users' usernames, just because they're banned. It's a different matter if that username is offensive, but being banned is in and of itself no reason for us to take away their username, as circumstances might change ;)

@CatLady
We could just do it with offensive usernames. For example This user (profanity alert) but not this user .

Edit:
Remember Aragon? He was permanently banned, but was let back on because it was a mistake.

@-Kiwi-
That's exactly what CatLady is saying. It was in response to PkmnTrainerV suggesting that banned users name are to be changed- such as JudJud's, GreenTea's, venasaur, etc no matter who they are or why they are banned. It's a different matter to offensive username, since they are offensive and should be changed.

I'm in no way support his addition though. This thread is for offensive usernames that might otherwise hurt others and the like, but having every banned user's screenname to be changed into a template is unnecessary.

Bump, I've seen some more inappropriate usernames. If this isn't going to be implemented can't someone atleast change those very vulgar usernames?

I totally support this idea. I saw many users with inappropriate nicknames, mostly permabanned, but so what? Their nicknames are still here and I must admitt, it's not nice to see that and I don't care if that's simply lack of their manners or inability to use their brains. It's unnecessary and should be censored.
The way of censoring inappropriate nicknames shouldn't be a big deal since these users are not here anymore. So the best way would be either to delete their accounts or change the usernames for the examples you can see above.

Support this idea but have a concern.

My concern is this: Would censoring such names cause them to become up for other users to choose?

I mean... Right now, no other can user can have your exact username at this site because it is already taken by you - correct? So if all the sadly offensive user names were changed to just squares or something then... Would those names would no longer be taken? Would censoring such names also make them available?

Yes, you make a valid point that seeing the names can be upsetting and disturbing. So why would we want to take them off inactive/banned accounts if there is a risk that doing so might make them available for new active users whose names are going to pop up more often in clicklists and such?

Courage. Peace. Kindness. Happiness.

@Acalm, I'm not sure how that'd work? ^^ What has been suggested is automatic - you use a bad word in your name and it get censored. Therefore the words are never 'free'.

I've kinda forgotten if I've posted here before and I'm a bit too lazy to scroll XD
Personally, I don't really support this. I most definitely support the censoring/changing of offensive names, but not automatic stuff e.g. coding. Why? Automatic coding means that the words considered bad only have to show up in a longer word for the word to be censored. This could potentially cause trouble and annoyance with compound words and words that when used correctly, are fine.

Yeah, I don't support automatic - there's lots of genuine usernames that could be effected.

Confagrigus might be one that trips any auto-filter due to letters in the middle and it's the name of a pokemon.

I do support some sort of censoring though, if any user search Riakos' name on pal pad to try and PM him about a problem then there's a pretty offensive one that shows up there - that should have been censored by now for sure, even if the account didn't get fully deleted.

Well yeah, Navuso's addition to the suggestion would certainly be useful. Not exactly automatic and must be done manually by the staff.

I don't know about you guys but next time I want to drop the non-slur f word I'll link to one of these users.
I even have a wide selection of words to choose from, how nice.
