Remove Old Trades in GTS
Forum-Index → Suggestions → Implemented → Remove Old Trades in GTSIt would also be handy to have a notification if you trade expired. Just to notify you because you may still be an active user but have forgotten about your trade. Eg. "Your trade has expired and has been removed from the GTS" Just so you know about it, if you're still an active user and you just forgot about your trade.
So just a quick thought to clear out a lot of trades that will forever stay there in the GTS basically. There are actually trades listed as 5 months old even.
Feedback appreciated. Thank you :)
Also going to add a suggestion of a notification of when this happens. Eg. "Your trade has expired and has been removed from the GTS" Just so you know about it, if you're still an active user and you just forgot about your trade.
Even if a trade has been up for a month... if the user is active, then you won't have any problems, so why should their trade be taken down when they don't want it to be?
If someone is active and doesn't accept an offer, they must have a reason. Why should people be forced to either reset their trades every month or accept an offer that they don't like? This is especially annoying for private trades, if the person who is supposed to offer is the one who's inactive. Let's say I have had a trade up for four months, but the person in question hasn't offered, while two other people have. I clearly stated in the description that it's a private trade for the person, so I am definitely not going to accept those two offers.
Even worse, let's say that I PM the person in question to remind him, and this suggestion is in place. What if he tries to justify not offering by saying this? "The trade wasn't even up until a week ago, so it's not my fault that I didn't offer when we agreed on the trade." The trade was up for four months, but the person took too long to offer and now it looks like I didn't even have the trade up and that it's my fault.
Hopefully, the problems that are caused by removing trades made by active users are clearer and make more sense now. ^^
On another note:
You realize that this contradicts the only reason why this would be useful, right? You are told in Notifications if you get an offer on your trade, so you can't forget unless nobody offers, and it's not your fault that nobody offered on your trade. The only reason you wouldn't accept an offer if there actually is one is because it's a bad offer. The whole reason you suggested this was because you didn't want people who were inactive to have their trades up... so why is it necessary to notify active members if you could just as easily not remove their trades to begin with? The only time this would be useful is if somebody quit the site/forgot to come back and then came back later, and even then, it would be far better if only inactive users got their trades taken down and then when someone did have a trade removed they got the notice just in case.
I know I posted this earlier, but I wanted to add more details and reasoning. Also, now that I've thought about it more, I have decided that I don't support the suggestion if it's based on how old the trade itself is. Sorry! ^^'
if i'm active and i want to leave my trades up, that's my business, maybe someone hasn't come along just yet who wants to offer on it and i'd like to leave it there until someone does
as for inactive users, what qualifies as inactive? a week? a month? is this something that can be legitimately decided?
I think it should tell the user who put it up:
"This trade has been canceled due to inactivity." (The "This" could link to the Pokemon)
I think as Carpet Monster has mentioned that a month is the least. Like mentioned before if you are going to leave for awhile that is your business but don't put up trades and make those who are here have to wait for you to come back. That seems rude to me.
But if the user is active then I suppose there shouldn't be a time limit, or at the very least a notification should pop up saying something like "time is about to expire, renew it?" So if the user is active then they can go and renew it. If they aren't active then they won't see the notification and the Pokemon will be removed followed by another notification saying "This trade has been canceled due to inactivity." (As Diana mentioned)
Again I support the idea of a timer of sorts for inactive users, the nitty-gritty ideas however seem to be mixed up and I'm not decided on the best method so there is just my two cents.
