Please tell me if there's already a thread for this! I didn't see one, so I decided to start one.

What are some theories that you've heard or come up with about Pokémon? It can be about anything related to Pokémon.

The theory that I would like to share is one about Nidorina and Nidoqueen, and why you cannot get Eggs from them.
I think that it is because of how protective they are of their young. Most of Nidoqueen's PokéDex entries mention how they are strongest when they are protecting their offspring, or similar things.
I think that the reason you can't get Eggs from Nidorina and Nidoqueen is because the Day Care man simply can't get to them. If your Nidoqueen was really that protective, would you expect her to happily hand over her Nidoran Eggs to the Day Care man? She is simply guarding the Egg, so the Day Care man can't get to it, and therefore obviously can't give it to you.
It's possible that this is even why you can't get Latios or Latias Eggs; their PokéDex entries mention that they live in herds, and NPCs such as Cheryl use them in the Battle Tower, so they obviously need to reproduce, but why should they trust the Day Care man with the Egg of an incredibly powerful Legendary Pokémon?

Feel free to post any and all theories that you have below! ^^

If you watch "Pokemon the Orgin", you find out that cubone's mother is a marowak (like it's supposed to be). This proves that the Kangaskhan-is-cubon's-mother theory is wrong. So much for fan theories >:(

Some pretty cool theories which always get me thinking + my favorite

Ditto Is a Failed Mew Clone
Show hidden content
Mew and Ditto both weigh 8.8 lbs.
They have the same sprite color scheme, with the same shinies.
They both can learn every move, though in Ditto's case for a certain period.
They both learn Transform, and Mewtwo cannot
Many Ditto can be found in Cinnabar Mansion where many experiments took place between Mew and Mewtwo.

The origins of MissingNo
Show hidden content
Some believe Marowak was supposed to evolve into Kangaskhan in the original game. They made a last-minute decision to make Kangaskhan its own Pokémon that wouldn't evolve, and so the programmers, rather than changing all code, moved the evolution to a number that didn't exist in the game, creating a missing number — or MissingNo.

Gengar is Clefable’s Shadow
Show hidden content
Gengar is known as the Shadow Pokémon, but what exactly is it a shadow of? Their body shapes are almost exactly alike, with the only major difference being that Clefable has a curl for its hair and tail, while Gengar has spikes. However, the shadow of an upright spiral like Clefable's tail would only be a line, or a spike. Now look at their typings. One of normal-type, and the other has ghost-type. Due to their immunities, neither of them could hit the other with STAB attacks, since they'd just be immune to each other. Have you ever tried to hit your shadow?

Rotom's Reaper Cloth
Show hidden content

Image above explains it all. Shuppet is just like a Rotom, but with a Reaper Cloth on it

Generation 1 Muna
Show hidden content

Muna was already introduced in Generation 1 games, and before Gen 5 was released, people were asuming that that Pink Pokemon was the Missing No, which ended up NOT being true

My favorite will always be the Cubone is Kangaskan's kid. I haven't seen Origins yet but I don't think they ever mentioned if the Marowak that died is Cubone's biological mother or not. Marowak could have just taken Cubone in as like an adopted kid or something.

I also like the theory that we killed Rivals Raticate.

Here's a theory about Voltorb: The original prototype for the Poké Ball went horribly wrong, and the caught Pokémon became trapped in and fused with the Poke ball. It's possible.

My favorite theory is that Garitina is supposed to represent the Devil.

Giratina's Pokedex entry list it as 'The Renegade Pokemon' and that it was banished to another realm(Hell) by Arceus (God) for it's violence.

In it's Altered form it has 6 ribs, 6 legs, and 6 spikes on it's wings. (666)
In it's Origin form it has 6 ribs, 6 wingy things, and 6 leg spike things. (666)

i like the one about ash he is still 10 it says in the 1st episode for unova region and how he first saw ho-oh in the first episode its pokedex entry:

Diamond
pearl
platinum

It possesses seven-colored wings. It is said that those who see Ho-Oh are promised an eternal happiness.

Black and white 2
Its feathers are in seven colors. It is said that anyone seeing it is promised eternal happiness.

So this means ash could stay 10 forever because he wants adventure? anyways i like this one

First i didn't know what to put in here but then..
Here we go
First of all my goal is to get shiny manaphy and the shiny game center dogs

My suspicions are there will be a game version pokemon Z.

You see:

Ruby and Sapphire had Emerald
Red and Blue had Yellow
Silver and Gold had Crystal (old versions)
Diamond and Pearl and Platinum.

etc.

I do not have either X or Y but I think someone said something about a third legendary pokemon.

So just a theory that there's going to be a Z version. :P

Sketchi: Zygarde is that third legendary. ;)

I like the theory on Cleafairy's shadow being Gengar. I never really realized that both of them are immune to the other, very interesting!

I've heard the one where Suicune, Raikou, and Entei are reincarnations of Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres.

I have heard that they are reincarnations of vaporeon, jolteon and flareon.

My favorite theory is the one that sais there was a pokemon war and that's why the main characters don't have dads. (Remember Lieutenant Surge)

A lot of these theories are very well thought out however I still see some flaws.

EDIT: Apologies, I am not sure why my quotes are messed up. I am new and unfamiliar with how it works here but all my tags are correct to my knowledge.

QuoteThe theory that I would like to share is one about Nidorina and Nidoqueen, and why you cannot get Eggs from them.

If this is so than what is the explanation for being able to do the opposite and separate the pokemon from the egg via removing it from the daycare? Are you even told that the pokemon and it's intended mate are getting along?

QuoteIt's possible that this is even why you can't get Latios or Latias Eggs; their PokéDex entries mention that they live in herds, and NPCs such as Cheryl use them in the Battle Tower, so they obviously need to reproduce, but why should they trust the Day Care man with the Egg of an incredibly powerful Legendary Pokémon?

The explanation here is simple, no legendary in the games can be bred because it would make them less valuable.

QuoteDitto is a failed Mew Clone
Mew and Ditto both weigh 8.8 lbs.
They have the same sprite color scheme, with the same shinies.
They both can learn every move, though in Ditto's case for a certain period.
They both learn Transform, and Mewtwo cannot
Many Ditto can be found in Cinnabar Mansion where many experiments took place between Mew and Mewtwo.

The statement "Both can learn any move" is not entirely accurate. Ditto's only move is Transform which allows it to become another pokemon entirely. There is a big difference.

QuoteGengar is Clefable’s Shadow

Gengar is known as the Shadow Pokémon, but what exactly is it a shadow of? Their body shapes are almost exactly alike, with the only major difference being that Clefable has a curl for its hair and tail, while Gengar has spikes. However, the shadow of an upright spiral like Clefable's tail would only be a line, or a spike. Now look at their typings. One of normal-type, and the other has ghost-type. Due to their immunities, neither of them could hit the other with STAB attacks, since they'd just be immune to each other. Have you ever tried to hit your shadow?

I'd say that since they are never seen together that Ganger is actually the spirt of Clafable who have passed on however it needs to be taken into consideration that Ganger is the final evolution of two other pokemon. How does this fit?

****

I don't have any of my own but I am sure we all remember the pokegod rumored tricks in the original R/B/Y games. This Includes one of the most popular, Pikablu, Merril's original identity believed to be an evolution of Pikachu or Riachu due to it's identical facial features.
Pikablu was only one of many pokegods believed to be obtainable in R/B/Y as well as Mew.
There are 3 definitions of pokegods:
*Johto region pokemon believed to be obtainable in R/B/Y which is before they officially existed, this includes Pikablu(Merril) and Togepi.
*Supposed evolutions of first generation pokemon that don't have known further evolutions or evolutions at all. Examples are Onix (since Steelex was unknown at the time) and Flareon.
*Completely fictional Pokemon.

There is a whole detailed description of many of the rumored pokegod cheats and tricks in the original games here:
http://www.blue-reflections.net/ragecandybar/projects/pokegods/
A great deal of these even are coming to my own attention for the first time.

I also once read a trick to capture 'GHOST' the mysterious figure you encounter in place of Gastly when you don't have the Silph Scope on you. It was said that using 'GHOST' actually killed opposing pokemon rather than faint them.

A couple I myself tried several years ago, while my fandom was still young, are:

*Talking to the fisherman who gave you the super rod 101 times was supposed to make him give you the Ultra Rod. The Ultra Rod would fish out the HM Super Strength which was supposed to be able to move the Vermillion Truck where either Mew or Togepi is. I actually attempted this at least five times. I was still a young fan, no older than 15 (I am 27 now) and wanted very much to make it work.

*Use the itemfinder 101 times in Mt. Moon with an open spot in your team. On the 101st time it should beep and your open spot should be filled by a mysterious egg which is supposed to be Togepi.

Not that experienced veteran fans like myself need to be informed but I can confirm from personal attempt these are absolutely bogus!

In addition I had every intention of trying a trick to evolve Dragonite into Yoshi (yes Super Mario World Yoshi) but it required full pokedexs in both Blue and Red which I never achieved. Now both of my cartridges have been dead for a year or so.

For the Nidoqueen one, I can't explain why you can take them out (unless they are returned to their PokéBalls without wanting to and have to leave the Egg behind, rather than voluntarily doing so). However, you have to admit that it at least makes more sense than the ones about Nidoqueen simply not being able to breed, which seems to be made for the sole purpose of contradicting the PokéDex entries.

As for the Legendaries... That is the out-of-game explanation, but all of these theories are supposed to be explanations from inside the Pokémon world. I don't think Latios are going around telling people, "No, I don't want to mate! It would make my species less valuable!" (Well, they could be, but I doubt it.)

CarpetMonster: If you'll notice the logic in the games is to accommodate aspects that would take away from the experience if it followed the anime. Because in the anime we see Lugia with a child, Latios and Latias who descend from a Latios who died to save earth and Legendaries are NEVER caught let alone bred by a trainer.

Even pertaining to common pokemon and battle there are parts of what we see in the anime that don't translate into the games. For example the ability to dodge attacks with fancy footwork.

The games simply don't make complete sense.

The anime is based on the games (with the exception of Pokémon Yellow)... so why would the games have to follow the anime? Latios and Latias are stated in the PokéDex to travel in herds. OF COURSE there is going to be more than one Latios in the anime. Speaking of Latios, Tobias, in Sinnoh League Victors, owned a Latios as one of his two Pokémon. He also owned a Darkrai. Brandon, of the Battle Pyramid, owned all three Legendary Golems. Even the games have multiple trainers using Legendaries.
You may not be able to command Pokémon to dodge (unless they know Detect or Double Team or something), but that doesn't mean they don't do it at all.
Just because some parts of the games don't make perfect sense does not mean that you should shoot down a theory that proves that some parts do. Also, this whole thread is about purely fanmade theories. If you don't think that the games make sense, and you assume that there absolutely CAN'T be any explanations for things unless it is explicitly stated in the games, then why are you on this thread to begin with? I think it is rather rude, personally.
