My favorite season is winter.
My favorite animal is foxes.
And my favorite extracurricular is music.
Which is the lie within those statements?"
Sakura felt like she would possibly get this one right, but of course, if she didn't, all was still well!
"Hm... is the lie the one about the foxes, perhaps? I feel like you would have a passion for music, and I know very well that you love winter! Maybe this doesn't have a connection, but back then when I would visit you at the hospital... There was a cute little snowflake at your door! And, of course, your beautiful outfit! It just screams of a winter theme! Love the snowflake choker, by the way! Hope I'm right?" She giggled playfully.

"Hm... is the lie the one about the foxes, perhaps? I feel like you would have a passion for music, and I know very well that you love winter! Eris winced at the mention of the hospital, only to blush at the compliments regarding her passion for music and her outfit.
"That's right! Music is one of my little secret hobbies, and I adore the winter time so much! My favorite animal is a tie between butterflies and hummingbirds. They're such delicate yet beautiful creatures. I guess they're a bit of an inspiration for me." Eris said with a giggle.

Sakura grinned. She was right! "Yes! Also, love your interests in those animals! I adore butterflies! Okay, I suppose it's my turn then! Hm... Oh, how about this?
My favorite type of flowers are lavenders,
I am an experienced piano player,
And I tend to get all A's in all of my classes.
Can you guess which one is the lie?"
Sakura hoped this was a bit more difficult than her last ones, those were pretty obvious and easy.

Eris hummed gently. This one was difficult. On one hand, Sakura was a major fan of purple so lavender would make sense, and from what she could tell, Sakura occasionally had difficulties in certain classes. One the other hand, maybe she preferred her namesake of flowers and was incredibly good with schoolwork...
Eris had her thumb in her mouth, using the pressure to help her focus... "Ah!" Bringing her thumb out, she saw a small drop of crimson fluid begin to bead up on her thumb. Crud... She had pierced her own finger with her canine tooth...
This somehow inspired her to answer. "Is the lie about your class grades? I feel like lavender is a solid choice for your favorite flower." She said, trying to discreetly grab a napkin to staunch her wound.

Sakura also noticed that Eris even bit her thumb, looks like she was really stuck on this one!
"Ah!"
"Oh, did you cut yourself?" Sakura said, a bit concerned. Seeing the small drop of blood on Eris's thumb, it was confirmed.
"Oh dear, be careful!" She said.
"Is the lie about your class grades? I feel like lavender is a solid choice for your favorite flower."
"You're absolutely correct! I suck at math, so that grade is bringing me some hard times..." Sakura pouted. "But its okay, though! And yeah, I'm in love with lavenders so much!"
"It was actually my mother who helped me learn how to play, but I stopped a few months ago. Before we met, of course. I can still play like I used to!" She smiled.
"Okay, your turn again! Maybe this should be our last one, it's getting pretty late." Sakura sipped on her milkshake, looking out the window before looking back at Eris.

Eris smiled at the explanation for her lie. She grinned a bit at the lavender comment. And she held back a wistful sigh at the mention of Sakura's mother helping her with piano learning.
Glancing out the window, Eris also realized how late it was. Luckily she was almost finished with her parfait. She nodded. "One more go, before we should head out." She said in agreement. "Let's see.... Let's try a little harder...

Sakura was suprised. This last round was a bit hard for her! All of the three choices seemed true. She carefully dissected each of the options.
The first one was a Japanese yōkai (a creature of Japanese folklore), a legend about a spider-like creature that could shapeshift into a beautiful woman, that she knew. She had heard a lot of these legends when she was little... Maybe this one wasn't a lie, Sakura felt like Eris really did have that as a favorite legend.
At the reminder of Eris's abusive family, she frowned, but still went with it. After they were blown up on the news about their atrocious acts and behavior towards Eris, she did recall her parents and siblings receiving their punishments, even the younger ones being sent to correctional facilities. So, that one was probably true.
As for the last one.. fire lilies were gorgeous! Maybe Eris did love them, but Sakura wasn't sure, she felt like they didn't fit Eris, no offense, of course!
"I'm going to guess... is the lie about the fire lily? I just think they don't fit you, no offense of course!" Sakura then smiled. Hopefully she was right? She took one more sip of her milkshake.

Eris giggled in good-nature. "None taken. And you got it! I'm not too big a fan of Fire Lilies. I prefer White Egret flowers. They look so much like the real life bird. I also really enjoy the story of a small creature being so much more powerful than it seems, with more hidden abilities as well beneath its exterior."
Eris scooped up the last of her parfait, savoring the flavor.

Sakura smiled. She was right! "Yay!" Finishing her milkshake, she got up from their table, taking her bookbag and putting it on.
"I'm glad we were able to hang out like this, after everything that's happened. Thank you, Eris. This was very fun, I'm glad things are looking up!" She said sweetly.
"If you want, I can walk you home if you don't live too far, but if you don't want me to, that's okay! Just want to make sure you get there safely."
Throwing out her finished dessert in a nearby trashcan, she went to the front door of the ice-cream shop, holding it open for Eris.
"Ready to go when you are!"

Eris smiled, feeling her face heat up a little as Sakura chivalrously offered to walk her home. What had she done to deserve such a kind friend...?
"Ready to go when you are!"
Eris blushed again, out of embarrassment realizing her mind had wandered out of turn. Quickly getting up as well, depositing her own finished dessert wares in the trash, she beamed as Sakura held the door of the shop open for her. "I'd love that, thank you." She said, trying to fight off the heat of her reddening face.

Sakura smiled in return as the duo had exited the building.
"What other things should we do like this? You know, to hang out more often? I was originally thinking about a sleepover, I know it's basic, but it would be fun!"
Sakura then looked down as she walked with Eris. Her hand hesitated to hold Eris's hand. Sure, she had seen people at their school hold hands in a friendly way, so why was she hesitating? Sakura closed her eyes a bit tightly, feeling the heat start to develop in her face.
"Uh... so, how are you and Miss Adio doing? Are things comfortable at your new stay?" She changed the topic, facing Eris, forcing her embarrasment down.
Feeling her phone vibrate in her pocket, she stopped in her tracks. "W-Wait!"
Pulling out her phone, she looked at the message. It was her mother!
"My mom wants me come home right now..." She frowned a little, but then she put on a smile.
"I'm glad we made this work! This was really fun, I'll see you next Monday, unless you want to hang out over the weekend, then that's fine, too!"
Sakura gave Eris a warm hug that lasted for a few moments, then she broke off from the embrace and quickly rushed home. Turning around, she called out to her.
"Tell Miss Adio I said hello! I'll see you later! Get home safe, okay?"
With a giggle, Sakura waved goodbye and left.

Eris had been just about to answer Sakura's questions regarding what the duo could do and about how she was liking living with her Auntie, when Sakura's phone vibrated. Stopping in their tracks, Eris watched Sakura bring out her phone and check the notification. She winced at Sakura's sigh, understanding that it was likely from her parents.
"My mom wants me come home right now..."..."I'm glad we made this work! This was really fun, I'll see you next Monday, unless you want to hang out over the weekend, then that's fine, too!"
Eris was amazed how quickly Sakura's mood and attention changed. First she seemed...
upset?... yeah upset, then she was smiling again with ease. And before Eris knew it, Sakura HUGGED her!! While it only lasted a few seconds, Eris couldn't deny the warmth of it. All too soon it ended and Sakura was starting to head off...
"Tell Miss Adio I said hello! I'll see you later! Get home safe, okay?"
Eris smiled sadly and nodded as Sakura set off. She hadn't had a chance to truly say anything, but she wouldn't let that get her down. Sakura..... The things that girl could make Eris feel and think... Face still a pale pink, Eris headed for her Auntie's house, her smile never leaving her face.

With a yawn, she got up, and got herself prepared for the day.
Her parents were suprised that she had skipped breakfast, but they shrugged it off. Maybe she was in a hurry?
As Sakura walked her way to the school, other students around her that were walking as well noticed that her hair was still a bit unkempt. Some whispered, some snickered.
Rubbing at her tired eyes, Sakura stopped and placed her bag down to reach for her brush. She began to brush her hair after she had put her bag back on.
She then continued to walk, but also forgot something. She forgot to message Eris! Sakura put her brush away and quickly got her phone.
Why was she in such a hurry to message Eris? She didn't have to, even though she always did, but... A light pink blush formed across Sakura's face.
Forcing it away, she opened her phone and began to send Eris a message.

At her new home, Eris awoke. She took a few seconds to reconnect with the world before stretching like a fox and popping out of bed. Her Auntie Adio made some cinnamon rolls for breakfast, which definitely helped in the wake-up process.
Dressed, fed, and prepped, Eris was out the door and heading to school when her phone buzzed. Eris's first thought was "It must be Sakura!" only for her to mentally backpedal from the mere thought. Why was she so certain...? Either way, she pulled out her phone and couldn't help a smile seeing the notification was for a text from Sakura~.
Sakura:
Hey, Eris. Sorry, I'm a bit tired this morning! Almost went to school with my hair all messy, but I brushed it before I got to the school, lol. Are you already at the gates, or are you walking as well? However you're arriving, can't wait to see you!
Eris:
Good morning Sakura! Ooo, never good to start a day as a bad hair day. I would have been a wreck, lol! Currently walking, on my way to the school. Can't wait to see you too!

Once she saw her friend, she grinned delightfully. "Eris!"
She bolted past the other students to give her a hug. The said students around the two watched the scene, but just left, some laughing, remembering Sakura from her awful hair earlier.
Releasing Eris, Sakura beamed. "Ignore them, they just don't have the sudden boost of energy like I do. Let's walk to class!"

Eris happily returned Sakura's hug. It always made her feel oddly warm inside, whenever Sakura hugged her. It was a nice warmth...
Being released, Eris smiled as Sakura spoke.
"Ignore them, they just don't have the sudden boost of energy like I do. Let's walk to class!"
Eris giggled and nodded. Time to start the school day!

Hope first period goes well with you, but remember, DON'T message me during first period, I don't want my math teacher getting upset.." Sakura sighed with an annoyed groan at the reminder.
"Aaaanyways, have fun in your class, I'll meet up with you soon!"
Sakura waved at Eris as she went to her own class. The bell had now rung.

Eris smiled at the momentary memory of their hangout session yesterday. She made sure to wince sympathetically at the reminder regarding first class texting. Eris was rather lucky in that regard, sadly Sakura needed to pay great attention in Math.

Eris waved in return as Sakura headed to her own class. With the bell ringing, Eris's first class began...
