Nakanotorishima Castle

Current Time: Evening (Day) | Prologue
The Game has yet to begin. Everyone may speak and act freely.

"This is utterly ridiculous. What could possibly be the cause of this incident?"

"...I have not a clue. The mermaids have been very persistent in their nagging, even after I have assured them the rain will cease soon."

"Nagging is quite possibly all they are good at. Contracts cannot be reversed, as you know, so there is no use in taking their words with importance. What is important is the salt within the foul rain cast upon us."

"That I am aware of. Whatever magical property it contains will surely destroy our island if not properly neutralized in time."

"That is likely correct. Please, if you could, request Iroha to search the island for any contaminants that could have washed up from the Expanse. I will attend to other matters for now."

"Alright. Then I will look into anything that might be related to rain that the mermaids might know about."

Irohahime Uchiumi

Iroha lightly sighed as she traversed through the all-too-familiar forests of Nakanotorishima. Being the one that was always assigned the boring tasks really sucked. Being stuck on an island for thousands of years and possibly thousands more also really sucked.

She actually semi-welcomed the change in scenery a little. Rain was hard to come by on the distant island, only forming when Amehime used her freshwater-summoning powers to water all the plants on the island at once. She found it mildly more interesting than listening to the stories of humans that one day found themselves on the phantom island.

Before they inevitably got bewitched by Mirahime and turned into mermaids, of course. It was quite unfortunate for them, but that was the harsh reality. Nothing that discovered Nakanotorishima could leave, so they might as well make themselves comfortable on the island.

Iroha spotted something out of the corner of her eye as she reached the shores of the island. It was...a camp? Settlement? Something of that sort, surely. She would have to tell this to Amehime when she returned back to the castle, but for now, maybe she could have a little fun. Before Amehime murdered them all or something.

"Heyyyy, fellow creatures of self-awareness~ May I ask what you guys are doing on this island?"

(Night will start when all characters have spoken at least once. The actual "mafia" part of the roleplay will start at the beginning of the next day.)

Paiyoon was tired. Tired of being teleported to strange worlds, tired of having to interact with strange and crazy people, tired of playing a killing game where while everything else changed, the rules were always the same. She closed her eyes, small wings folding against her soft purple cloak. She was nothing this time. She had not a hunch who was evil, she had not a special power to determine who was, and had a massive target on her back... literally.

She looked around at the small camp they had been given, and her fellow bleary-eyed players, all of whom were coming to. She appeared to be the first with her wits about her. Someone (or something... nothing was ever as it seemed) was speaking to them.

What was she doing on this island? The same thing happened every time. She had won more than anyone else in the cycle. And still, she remained here. What was the curse she had to break, what was the wrong she needed to right?

Time would only tell if she could fix what was clearly broken.

"Hello there, stranger. Fate has somehow... summoned me here. Which means there's about to be a murder game. I apologize for bringing such violence onto your island. Unless of course, you are the cause of such violence, in which, please, tell me how to win. By the way, have you seen an exiled demon-thing named Kojirou?" She grinned, missing the pointy teeth from her goblin form.
It was never meant to be.

Brooke sighed in exasperation.

"Fxcking..."

She paced around, her bright green hair swaying with each step. She Rana. hand through her hair, muttering under her breath

"Does anyone know what in the flipping F- is going on?"

She stopped pacing, putting her hands in her pockets.

"Oh, honey, you don't want to know. Save your foul-mouthed innocence for another three minutes... if you can." Paiyoon didn't even to look behind her, an expert at fielding the questions from the newbies. She kept her eyes trained on the mysterious lady, waiting for answers.

She reached behind her, running a finger over her feathers. They seemed to be functional, small as they were. She continued to take stock of their surroundings. Their lovely island location obviously meant no escape. The waters looked welcoming, but likely hid something dangerous. See rule one: they couldn't escape. She didn't like this.
It was never meant to be.

"...Oh, f-. Am I about to disappear like Art?"

She swore under her breath, her eyes widening slightly.

"...so a murder game, right?"

Mirahime Uchiumi | Lake Kurage

Current Time: Evening (Day) | Prologue
The Game has yet to begin. Everyone may speak and act freely.

"Ah, a dark goddess of disaster, you say? That is quite interesting. Perhaps she has some involvement in this...incident."

Mirahime was thankful the mermaids could provide at least a little useful information. There surely was something they knew that wasn't recorded in the Nakanotorishima Archives after all. She and Amehime were not the most diligent writers ever.

"Yes, er...Lady Mirahime. If I recall correctly, her name is Imber Tempestarii." A mermaid chimed in. "She wasn't a creation goddess or anything. Just power-hungry. You know how gods are."

The mermaid continued. "It might be possible that she is attempting to traverse the Expanse. Before I was stranded here, I vaguely remember someone saying she was planning to, er, do that."

"That would be around 150 years ago. I suppose it is plausible, for millennia pass at the blink of an eye as a god." Mirahime replied, with a slight semblance of thankfulness in her voice.

"I shall return to the castle for now. Rest assured, me and Amehime will make sure the rain stops in at most a few days."

Irohahime Uchiumi

"Ooh, hello! What's your name? Mine is Irohahime Uchiumi, which means I'm one of the nobles living on the island. And I'm also one of the three actual people living here. If water empresses count as people, heh." Iroha replied excitedly. One could only wonder how such cheerfulness lasted so many millennia of entrapment.

"The mermaids on this island like calling me Lady Irohahime, but that's totally way too formal, so you can just call me Iroha. I can show you around if you like, although it'd probably look better in your eyes if it wasn't raining~"

Iroha ruffled her light pink hair, which was surprisingly barely wet from the light drizzle. "Oh, you don't have to worry about finding demons here. The water around this island is sacred, which means no divine creatures can cross it. So yeah."

And I'm fairly certain you'll be experiencing some violence soon too. That's too bad. I don't want to know how Mira turns people into mermaids.

She turned towards Brooke curiously. "A murder game? I don't think we do these here. I mean, I don't think the mermaids would be very keen on murdering each other for fun. Oh, and do you guys happen to know anything about the rain. Apparently it's bad."

Elizabeth huffed and kicked a rock aside. “I regret all of my life choices regarding this entire trip. I should have known this type of thing would happen. Let’s get this over with and hope this ends fast. I’m running on a tight clock here. You seem like an expert at these types of situations miss, anything you’d like to share?” She raised her eyebrows questioningly at Paiyoon.
The ashes rained down from the sky like snow, cinders scattered through the breeze…
And where was I? Burning in hell, of course.

September sighed. So far this was chaos. Hearing mention of a murder game and green haired person pacing and swearing.

"Calm down," She called back to Brooke. "I'm sure it'll be fine." September glanced at Brooke for a few seconds and then studied the others faces.

"Tell me Miss..." She trailed off waiting for a name. "Have you ever heard of the game Mafia? Also called Werewolf? I believe another player mentioned something about a video game called Among Sus? You're here now. Killers are in our midst. They strike at night. Then we can typically vote one suspicious person off the island per day. Shenanigans ensue, people die. I've been stuck in a loop. Someone out there hates me... But the rewards can be decent. That's how I got these wings." Paiyoon smiled a saccharine grin, turning her attention back to the... water goddess(?)

"Hello, Iroha, dear. The name is Paiyoon Ji, current plaything of the fates. I do not know why it's raining... Do you need me to keep you dry?" It was a slightly flirtatious statement, but Paiyoon was dead serious.
It was never meant to be.

Dennis had kept his mouth shut. His eyes were fixed on the ground. As the rain fell on top of his silver curls, he listened quietly to the others' conversation.

This feels like a game... I don't even like games.

He turned over his hand and watched the droplets fall into his palm. He didn't come on the expedition to end up dead. He tilted his chin up, watching Iroha. A local would be nice to have as a friend. Especially one of such high status. He frowned at Paiyoon's flirting, either way though, he just wanted to stay alive.

"Iroha... Can you explain this situation? I'm having a hard time understanding it, and Paiyoon is giving me a headache."

“That’s the dumbest sounding game ever. If I was the killer, I’d murder everybody on the island in one go, what’re they gonna do, say ‘Hey, that’s cheating!’? But fine, I suppose I’ll play this game by the rules. Wings do seem pretty decent as a reward. So, based on what you’ve said, this happens to you on the daily doesn’t it? How are you still alive at this point? I’d expect you to have died at least once. It’s Elizabeth by the way, but you can call me Liz.” She didn’t proffer her hand for a handshake.

"Lizzie, darling." Paiyoon shook her hand formally, offering a nod of approval. "I don't make the rules. They're extremely stupid, I agree. But while you're here, I think you'll find yourself under compulsion to follow them. When you die in this game, there's a small chance (should the fates allow) for you to come back and... play again, so to speak. This is my fifth game. I'm one of the special ones."

♥️ Nagisa Aoki's POV ♥️

A poor confused soul was summoned onto the island with no idea as to how she got here. His last memories involved something regarding a forcibly induced closing of her windpipe, and this horrific realization that she had... Failed.... Someone?...

Nagisa Aoki straightened out his hair and retied the bows upon her head, which, were a mess, for some reason or other. He was on some kind of island. It seemed nice here! Nice and calm, he wondered what the people were like... He must introduce himself! But...

It seemed she was forgetting something. Something important. Something she couldn't quite recall for some reason.

"Ah! Hello there!" Nagisa spotted someone nearby, and immediately (did that slight formal skirt lifty thingy I have no idea what that is this looked cooler in my head) with his fingers, doing a little bow. "My name is Nagisa Aoki, and I... I have no idea what's going on here. Could someone please explain? What are we all doing here? You've... Been here before?"

He was intrigued at the thought, but, puzzled nonetheless. She had no recollection of how she arrived here, and there was this aching throbbing of his head.

Nagisa looked sympathetically over at the person who was confused, offering a smile of encouragement.

"It's alright, I have no idea what we're doing here either. I'm not sure if any of us do."

"Oh, you got my pronouns right. I'm Brooke, by the way. She/her unless I say otherwise. And yeah, I've heard of all of those."

She sighed.

"This has to happen now, when we're dealing with Artemis' will..."

She swore under her breath.

Amehime and Mirahime | Nakanotorishima Castle

Current Time: Evening of Day 1 | Prologue
The Game has yet to begin. Everyone may speak and act freely.

"Ah, Mira. I suppose you have returned with useful information. Judging by the way you look."

"You are correct. One of the mermaids has informed me of an Imber Tempestarii. A dark goddess of disaster. With plans of traversing the Expanse. Perhaps through using our island as a checkpoint of sorts."

"That is not completely unheard of. The same goddess has attempted that multiple times in the past, it appears."

"That is true. But her powers would be neutralized by the Expanse. The flooding would have to originate from her followers drawing from her power at a distance."

"Which explains why Nakanotorishima wasn't instantly flooded. That theory is quite sound. Now, let us participate in a scrying rite, to determine what our next course of actions shall be."

Irohahime Uchiumi

(iroha and her sisters are water empresses. basically a powerful water elemental.)

"Mafia? Werewolf? I don't think so. The closest thing I've heard of is some ancient ritual done by those demon-divine creature things you talked about earlier called Ōmagatoki. I think they were used by those creatures to grow stronger through the powerful emotions that you humans release in those situations?"

Iroha took a step forward. "I'm not too familiar with it. I've only read it in a book from the Archives in the Castle. Oh, and you don't have to worry about me getting wet. I'm a water empress, which means I'm practically from that stuff."

She directed her attention to Dennis, ruffling her pink hair a bit. "I don't know what she's talking about either, so I'm pretty much in the same boat as you are. Oh, speaking of boats, did you get here through one of those? I've seen someone get here with only a raft before. They were pretty much dying when they got here."

"And my magical powers aren't great enough to do stuff like that anyway, and there's not really much of a point to get you to fear us anyway since our powers are tied to our identity. Maybe Ame has enough magical prowess to do that, but I definitely don't."

Iroha stopped to take a breath. "Are you guys hungry? The forest has plenty of fruits and plants you can eat. And if you're thirsty you can probably just drink water directly from the Expanse. It's holy and we don't get saltwater here."

I think they were used by those creatures to grow stronger through the powerful emotions that you humans release in those situations?"

Nagisa nervously twisted a lock of hair around his finger (a habit I need to stop projecting onto all my characters). "O-Oh! My, that's... Very interesting!" She cupped her hands together and gave the water empress a smile. "How did they do that, exactly? Ah! If you don't mind me asking, I was just wondering. I wouldn't want to be a bother, after all..." He said the last part very quietly.

But a moment later, he got his answer, and said no more on the subject.

Boats?...

Nagisa actually couldn't recall how she got here, or why he was supposed to be here. But regardless of what the situation was, he was determined to help! He decided not to comment on the fact she wasn't too sure if she used a boat to get here or not, after all, if it wasn't important for everyone else, he shouldn't bring it up.

She was very fascinated to hear all this information about magical powers. It seemed unheard of to him, although he'd never particularly believed that magic absolutely didn't exist either.

(Cough little disclaimer if anything I post contradicts any lore or anything I'm supposed to do I'm sorry I'll edit it, I apologize for any inconvenience)

"How very interesting! I'm not hungry, but... Are any of you?" Nagisa turned to look at her companions. "I could maybe prepare something, if you'd like!"

"Ōmagatoki... I might need to read that book." She sighed, and sat down on the sandy shore. Paiyoon hugged her knees to her chest, leaning back slightly. She thought she heard the name Artemis, but that was probably just her imagination.

Was she wrong? Had she escaped the games? Was she spreading misinformation from her trauma and cynicism? Was she... free?

“Well, we’re still stuck here at any rate, and that damn cage of salt rain seems to be flooding this island slowly. I for one, am not keen to be on this island when the results are shown.” Elizabeth plopped down into the sand, the course texture rubbing against her skin as she inelegantly kicked back and relaxed a bit beside Paiyoon. “I don’t quite understand what you mean by being toyed by the fates, but I’m sure they’d have eventually gotten bored of toying with you eventually. Maybe you’re finally released from the loop. For my and the others sakes, i sure hope you have.”

"Hmm. We'll see." Now Lizzie was almost certainly Mafia. Her Freudian slip may have had a smooth recovery, but Paiyoon didn't trust it. She tilted her head, watching, thinking. Always analyzing.

What made these players tick? How would they respond? And did she get the distinct feeling that this girl wanted to vote her out?

Soo-ah woke up a long time ago, but unfortunately, she didn't have time to say anything as her creator was unfortunately too lazy to actually write anything. But that wasn't the point.

Now, she was stranded on some mysterious island, with 9 other people whom she rode the ship with. Ofcourse, there were a few particularly weird individuals with perhaps some mental disability, who is she to be the judge of that!

It's not like she wasn't looked upon as a weirdo at times..heh!

"What's with the cold and weary atmosphere.. uwaa how scary!~ No one has died yet, so what's the worry?" Soo-ah shrugged, complete alright with the fact of multiple eyes suddenly staring upon her.
