Can't exchange egg at gem collector

I've tried to exchange gems for a Mawile egg and even though I have enough gems for one egg it says I don't. Am I supposed to have more gems than needed when exchanging? Earlier eggs were exchanged with no problems

Try getting one more gem and see if it works, sometimes it shows that

Still didn't work, though thank you for the gift to let me try. I guess you really need the 20 gems as he says

Try getting 20 gems, then, for me it worked when I got the same message, but I added 1 extra from the limit

Having the same issue... but with Toxel :"D

EDIT: Nvm I guess I was being silly. I never knew GC was based off DEX entries, not Egg ones... >_>
