its been 10 years and there is no reason why the blocking system should still be like this

heres my suggestion: in addition to not being able to send you messages or comment, a blocked person should either not be able to view your feeds or not be able to view your profile at all. both parties pokemon can still be interactable through the front page or from clicklists but there should be no way for the blockee to be able to view the blockers profile or feeds

adding to this, i think it be a good idea to make it so you have to sign in to view feeds. it will stop a lot of stalking and remove anonymity from someone lurking on your profile for nefarious reasons (ie. they were blocked or they are trying to view someone mentioned or involved in drama or a certain blog that promotes such.) when your site hosts a lot of younger people theres no excuse to not have a functional way to feel safe against people who have bad intentions or are creepy

yes please! This is how many other sites operate like twitter, instagram. Speaking of these sites they have an age requirement of 13 to sign up, which, I believe pokeheroes has no such rule?
So for pokeheroes to not have this age requirement AND also have a rather poor and loose blocking system in comparison is like ehhh. A little off especially for the young kids on site.
Also if im blocking someone yeah i dont want them to see my feeds… vague posting is rampant on this site and i think the fact that you can easily view ppl who blocked you, just fuels that sort of thing more.

Its a good idea but maybe there should be setting for this? I want people who I blocked to see my profile and feeds

What Drakonia said, it would be appreciated if this is customisable. I'm personally ok with blocked people seeing my feeds, but maybe not my contact links (though I have none LOL), and I completely see why people would want to

Curious question: What else might this he applied to?
- Forum posts? (Would blocking threads be too disruptive?)
- GTS trades?

maybe then a "restrict" and a "block" feature? a block itselfs main purpose is to be used to cut communication and engaugement with someone

id like to add that when your blocked and the person who blocked you was on your friendslist, you still get their feeds in notifications and you have to physically go to their profile to unfriend them to stop recieving them which is kinda wack, a block should be a cutting off of contact and not result in a mandatory trip to a profile of someone whos made it clear they dont want you to engage with them

if theres a way to make it so a block results in a removal from the friendslist too id be really nice

a restrict or havve it be optional to view feeds i wouldnt really mind being a thing as long as theres a way for someone to cut all engaugement if they feel they need

is there a reason why youd want someone to view your feeds who has the permissions for responding taken away?im a bit confused by that and want to understand your sentiment

@meep

forum posts probably still view cuz its kinda away from your profile and isnt like really engauging (unles your trying to private chat through forums then in that case let a mod know) and might disrupt discussions/forum games what not

for trades personally i dont know whats best for that, i have a hard time seeing how someone would want to trade with someone they want tocut contact with but i also dont really play the game side of ph too much

I support, of course. I would absolutely love for the blocking system to more effectively cut off people I don't want to interact with. So many times I've delt with a person I've blocked proceeding to stalk my profile afterward which is just...yeah no.

As for a toggle feature which lets them see your feeds...eh? I don't see why that is necessary? So they can see your vague posts and such? If I'm blocking someone I want to completely cut contact, which means all or nothing. I would support a 'mute' feature which would spoiler their forum posts maybe and make it so they can still see your feeds, but letting them see your profile beats the entire purpose of blocking them: to get them the heck out of your business.

Adding to this, Like Meep said, it would be nice if it also blocked forum posts, limited interactions in threads you started, and hid GTS trades. Iirc, blocked users can't send private trades? Idk if that was added or not. If it wasn't, then it def should.

I agree with all of this and give my full support, even though I am fortunate enough to not have needed to block anyone so far.

Slightly on and slightly off topic, I think we should also be able to remove Forum posts if we are the creator of said Forum main post. That way, we can immediately take action if someone were to spam our games or shop posts, or are people on our block list (not sure if blocking people already stops them from commenting on your Forum posts but it should). Maybe all Forum posts made on your Forum by users you've blocked should be auto-removed as well, or at least spoiler-tagged but I'm not sure.

I absolutely give my full support for this suggestion! I think a better blocking system is going to benefit the userbase greatly, especially when it comes to the fact that the current blocking feature is rather basic and lacking.

[Re: Why block trades?]

I don't recall if blocked users can offer on your trades (I think I heard of it happening to a friend), but I can see them being able to spam you, or more concerningly nickname a pokemon in an offer.

[Re: Why let blocked people see your feeds?]

My feeds tend to be quite general, so I really don't care, but I realised I actually said the wrong thing, whoops. I meant that I'm okay with seeing blocked users' feeds, because I usually only block when I don't want people to initiate conversation, but I might still answer questions on their feeds, especially people asking for help with the game. But I do understand that my perspective is not very common.

I support everything suggested here except for the removing anonymity part. If someone's logged out viewing your profile they already can't interact with you so removing the ability to see feeds while logged out is pointless. Plus there's already a system in place to make it so that people you trust are the only people who see your feed, When you make a post there's a checkbox below where you type that says "Visible to friends only"

is there a reason why youd need to view a profile logged out? the only reasons i can think of are to see what someones saying in feeds after being blocked or to look at stuff posted on da blog, if there are other reasons feel free to let me know, i want to understand where your coming from

i wouldnt say its pointless, for example if you blocked someone for being creepy/preditory/mean they could just log out and see what your saying and view everything on your profile anyway and you cant do anything about it, which kind of undermines the point of the block. in order to view a user while logged out you basically have to search for the user specifically, which means (at least from my understanding) theres probably a reason you wouldnt want them to know your there

a block should mean theyve made it clear they dont want said person to interact with them at all, i think it goes a bit further than just not being able to reply

It's a bit of a iffy thing to do imo, but yes, there is a reason to want to view a profile while logged out.

The amount of pd someone has when you're in a bidding war with them at the auction house.

I can see why you'd want to anonymously look at their spending power so you can safely outbid them.

Nah, not necessarily but I personally like doing that better 😅
Main point I was trying to make really, is that there are potentially other reasons for wanting to view profiles anonymously

thats understandable! thanks for helping me understand a bit further

i do still think it might be the safest thing to still have you sign in to view feeds/profile details, just by seeing how other social media sites handle safety and knowing ph culture, there should at least be a way to have a setting like this, even if its (and as hopefully a last resort) a toggled option like a private mode but something like that might be a stretch

i dont think we should have a unfuctional blocking system for the sake of convience and gameplay if thats makes sense

i mean do we really want people like this being able to view your profile and feeds even after theyre blocked

imagine being 14 and having no way to keep someone like this away from your profile, thats how the blocking system still is now and people like this are incredibly common on sites like these, and even if these users are banned (as far as im aware) they can still view your profile by searching your username
i know PMs and stuff like this has happened to a lot of people on site and to a lot of my friends when they were younger too

Honestly I don't think this should be one of those things where "I want a blocked person to see my feeds" or even make it an option because I feel almost like that's rude/disrespectful/purposely goading. A block should cut all contact, period. (In my opinion.)

I'd rather not even know that person exists than have to go through the annoyance of seeing them on the social page.

The block isn't a punishment for anyone to dish out to another user, it's for that user to cut contact with someone they don't get along with.

Also for the auction thing, I also feel that too isn't really that important. If a person doesn't want contact with you/doesn't want you viewing their page, they shouldn't have to let you see their page.

If you're logged out you count as a visitor so I guess that isn't as terrible but still if you're potentially bothering someone who blocked you that's not great.

If it's that important to be able to view someone's profile, maybe a very barebones panel for the user can show up and literally nothing else on their page.

Actually, what happens if you block a staff member? I assume they're exempt from the same restrictions because they need to be able to moderate, right? Just curious if we're hoping to modify the block system to be more strict, especially if the page essentially becomes invisible

I'm not suggesting doing that by the way 🤣 I was just thinking in cases of severe trouble makers trying to block all of the mods to avoid punishment

I'm going to clarify my opinion on this, with the caveat that I see that it's unpopular, it's how I personally interact with users, and that there is no need to add this to the suggestion/feature

I usually block on the basis of people violating my "Do not ask me to trade unsolicited" rule. I'm fine contacting people I block on my own terms (e.g. asking for help in a feed). I just dont want people doing things that will divert my attention (e.g. Palpad/PM unread indicator, notifications from feed comments) for no reason

Tl;dr I block people to be in control of when I interact with them.

I don't appreciate the insinuation that I'm trying to goad people, I'm referring to when I make feeds like
- Riako confirms that fountain boost doesnt affect retros
- Expected time to get a shiny Ho-Oh
- Asking what it means when a warning is expired
- Boosting a friend's post

Just because I find a user irritating etc doesn't mean I want to avoid being able to pass on helpful info. Or that my friend should miss out on a chance to receive help because I dislike someone.

Also, strictly speaking, a block is inherently a punishment because its a negative consequence as a result of breaking a rule (or boundary). It can still be used in bad faith/to irritate someone whether or not that user can see your feeds.

You can't block mods. You can click the button, but it doesn't actually add to blocklist (You can try it yourself, the button never changes to "Remove from blocklist")
