Her tense fingers flew across the paper. She held her bid. Jack
knew she would get what she wanted in the end. The only question
was how much more Sera would have to suffer. Jack wanted to
minimize that as much as possible.
She sends the paper back to Jack, a little PS written in minuscule
gold handwriting. When you say someone, does that also include
you and Lydia? Or one of my rose-masked friends? Or should it be a
stranger? Don’t wanna exploit any loopholes now, do we? Andrea
knew once Jack got Sera and Lydia got Kendo, it was game over for
her. She would have two people coming after her. No way she was
gonna relinquish her only bargaining chip until she had finished
her…goal. Not a chance in hell.
Jack could work with this deal. She motioned to Lydia not to bid
now, and to let Andrea have Sera. Ogd, the auction terminology was
terrible. She quashed her murderous rages for the thousandth time
today. This meant one thing and one thing only: Jack's Second
long-ago deal was going sour.
"Just... wait." She whispered. "Andrea and I have a deal. She just
wants Sera for the moment for insurance. I agree it's not ideal,
but we may have to just go for it. Plus we'll have more money for
Emma and Kendo."
Even in the whisper, she maintained her accent from another time,
another life. The life where she had once pretended to be polished
and proper and worthy of-
Logically, she knew this was her best move. It was her only move
really. But still, her heart broke as she knew Sera would think she
was giving her up.
"Auctioneer said he'd be last before you got here..." Jack said
quietly. "But the fact that he's the main event concerns me.
Deeply." Her eyes were locked on the stage, expression inscrutable.
Was that it? Is this how she's going to live her life now? She
didn't hear any more numbers being called, and did her best to keep
outputting more mist inside the room. Whatever she could do to
deter everyone, she would do. "Mama..."

Andrea grins, gesturing to one of her rose-masked followers to go
complete that tedious retrieval process. As promised, Andrea gets
up to leave, but not before kissing the man next to her on the
cheek, passing something to him and whispering something in his
ear. A shriek echoes through the hall, piercing and loud, as Andrea
slaps a man and shoved him away. “How DARE you. Get away from me,
you filthy perv.” The guy falls backwards, his mask falling off his
face as he spits out blood, flaring back at her. Andrea breaks the
mask under her heel and swept out of the hall. She would explain
things to Sera later.
Sera had no choice but to follow obediently. That was- until she
realized she wasn't being taken to Jack. Then, she started to slow
down, trying to veer off into Jack's direction. "Mama... Don't
leave me..." She shook her head. She didn't want to go with the man
who was leading her somewhere anymore.

"It will be okay. I promise." Because if it wasn't, Jack no
longer had a problem with burning the world down. If this semester
had taught her anything, it was that she was no longer the girl
that waited for fate. She had irrevocably changed since she stood
on tiptoes and tried to kiss her best friend.
Emma was next. The auctioneer butchered the history of her school.
"One thousand," she said, standing and interrupting the pompous
caller.
"Mama...! Jack...!" She reached out to Jack, but was unable to pull
away from the guard. She was crying almost hysterically- how did
things ever end up like this? She didn't want any of this.

Honestly. She was becoming more detatched. She must be. It was the
only reason why this was happening. Oh, did Sera just call her name
across a hall full of masked people? Where any one of them could
hear her and then come after her? Apparantly. How wonderful. She
would deal with anyone who tried, of course, with her standard
brutal efficiency. She ignored Sera again, the dull ache in her
chest fading to numbness.
The gentleman who had been seating next to Andrea passes a note
over to Jack.
Meanwhile, the woman herself went to go meet Sera, in a room off to
the side of the auction hall. As she watched the screaming girl
being brought in by the guard, she let out a sigh. Her contract
with the Masquerade didn’t involve crying children. Andrea pinches
the bridge of her nose, before getting up and facing Sera.
“You’re Sera, right? Well, your mama and I have a deal. She’s gonna
give me my sister, in return for you, okay? She isn’t abandoning
you or anything like that. I just need some insurance she isn’t
going to grab you and run. Also, whatever you need, just ask, okay?
Just…don’t try to escape, I don’t feel like hunting you down and
then experiencing the wrath of what? Your non-biological mom and
dad? Probably the whole Newbury Academy. Those that are worth
caring about anyway.” She spoke all these in a hushed voice, that
way only Sera could hear.
She nodded curtly at the guard, gesturing for him to complete the
handover process with the rose masked figure.
She sunk to her knees, shaking her head and holding her hands over
her ears. "You're lying... She wouldn't give me up like that. She
wouldn't... She wouldn't..." She crawled to a corner of the room
and brought her knees to her chest, trying to seem smaller than she
was. "I don't want to go with you... I don't know you..."

Andrea huffs, cursing under her breath. “She’s not giving you up.
She’s doing this for your protection. She knows I’ll kill you if I
don’t think my end of the deal is fulfilled, so she’s making sure
I’m in a good mood? So I won’t kill you off.” Andrea lets out a
long, tired and frustrated sigh. “Look, Sera, I’m trying to be nice
here, okay? So please cooperate with me, otherwise I’m going to do
something I know they won’t like. I promise that you will be
returned safe and unharmed back to your mama, IF you cooperate with
me for a while okay? I know you don’t like me, and you don’t need
to, but I really don’t want any blood on my hands and a whole
village after me. It’s not like you have a choice anyways. If you
stay here, you will get killed.”
She sniffled and stood up, nodding slowly but keeping her distance.
Maybe there was a way out still- it would take some time to find
one, but she would try any means of escaping when she could. For
now she followed far behind Andrea, but it wasn't long until her
adrenaline started to fade, and as did her consciousness. She fell
asleep, crashing to the ground.

Andrea snapped her fingers, and the rose masked man picked Sera up,
carrying the sleeping girl on his shoulders. She cast a look at
Sera, gesturing for the man to bring her to one of her safe houses,
before turning to go settle some other personal matters. Sure,
Andrea might be a crazy psychopath, but she didn’t really feel like
being the one to kill others. Ironic as it may seem…that was rather
distasteful.
