Jack closed her eyes, ignoring Kendo. She could feel the buzz
already. The little princess had beaten her record time. She didn't
really care, but they all expected to care. They would think she
was vulnerable. Didn't they realize that they could never touch
her?
Brushing away the unwelcome thoughts, Jack smiled. "About time
somebody was competent enough to challenge me." The statement
carried across the room. "I look forward to getting to know the
princess."
If they wanted a show, she'd give it to them. It was how she got
by.
Rei watched from afar as the sorting and fighting were happening
among the first years. Nothing really important to him atleast. The
only thing that made him raise an eyebrow was when a new student
broke the record for fastest sorting process. Curious, Rei
approached further, accidentally bumping shoulders with someone.
"Watch i-" He looks at the person who he bumped into with an
annoyed tone before seeing the person seeming to be in deep
thought.
"The stars in my memories that
I can't express in words, all packed into a balloon,
Soars across the Milky Way, carrying travelers, a dream" "It won'tend yet,""I don't wantit to end" "But even so, one day.."
-Mr. Showtime
Atticus smiled at Jack’s attitude.
“Well, I’ll take you up on that offer, but don’t get too caught up
in training me, you obviously want to fight the princess.”
He turned to the tall man.
“Kendo… right? I've heard good things about you. Although I've
never spoken to you before. Not that I spoke to many people before
anyway. This is the first time I'm talking to either of you. Too
caught up in... studies."
His smile faltered for a moment at the last part.
"You're not missing much with Kendo. He's... He exists to annoy.
Literally. We have a love-hate relationship with very little love."
Jack stopped herself from rolling her eyes, and turned away with a
flourish of her cloak.
She didn't want to fight the princess. She just wanted to... Well,
Jack didn't really know. It seemed almost meaningless at this
point.
Jack was really only good at one thing: porblem-solving. Whether it
was on the dueling court or otherwise, she was always fixing. And
that was the problem. Actually, she was good at one more thing:
teaching. But no one would ever believe that.
"Thank you all for your patience!" The Headmistress stood up and
clapped her hands, making the trays of food disappear, much to the
disappointment of most students. "You will have time to feast
later. Now, the results of the sorting..."
Athena tuned out most of it, she'd get to know everyone later. Her
name hadn't been called yet, they were taking quite a while to get
to her.
{Houses names and colours and emblem suggestions would be really
helpful!}
Atticus smiled at Jack.
"I think it's wonderful that you coach other people. I have heard
that you quite enjoy it. I don't have quite nearly enough the
patience for that role, but you have the skill. This food spread
is... alright if compared to my life back home... but it's still
food. Do you want me to grab you a plate?"
Atticus smiled at Kendo politely.
"I'm sure there's more to you. Would you like to grab some food or
something?"
Kendo intimidated Atticus, so Att wanted to be friends. He had
already attempted a connection with Jack, so he would let that have
some time so they could hopefully be friends (?).
Jack didn't hate Kendo as much as she pretended to. She actually
appreciated his friendship. Of all their classmates, he understood
her best. She unfolded her newspaper, and did the entire puzzle
section in two minutes. She was tired, and wanted to get back to
the dorms to sleep.
"Sure Kendo, we're friends. You too, Atticus." It sounded
facetious, but she was being genuine.
So now she had two best friends, a little princess everyone thought
was her potential rival, and a whole bunch of problems. This was
going to be an interesting year. She watched the young students
wait to be sorted out of the corner of her eye. The headmistress
was taking longer than usual this year.
Atticus relaxed and laughed.
"You're quite... energettic. But I suppose that can be a good
thing."
He walked over to a table and inspected the spread.
"Not very impressive in my eyes, but to each his own."
He picked a flower from a centerpiece vase and drained the bright
color from it's soft petals.
"I still need to... sort of eat? I don't know what you would call
this curse, but I do need to do this."
He smiled sadly at the dead flower laying at his feet.
"It kills, but it's what I have to do to survive."
Emika rolled her eyes. The sorting was taking an eternity! She had
better things to do! Like studying some potions, or wiping the
blood off the wa-, or practicing some spells. She grimaced at
the second thought. Maybe not...
Eris was quick with the food before it was vanished. She was
terrified. The darkness had been a test. How had she done? Had she
done well? Done enough?? Would she be sent out?! She did her best
to calm down, no need for a panic attack on her first day...
Jack had seen Atticus drain and control color throughout the eight
years of school, and wasn't fazed. She wondered if it would be rude
to ask about the details.
"I wonder if there's an afterlife for flowers..." She trailed off,
staring at the headline. "Swords are overrated, Kendo. It's why you
can't beat me."
"I survive and use colors. Not very convenient for sleeping when I
have a three hour clock to absorb color. What I mean is I die if I
don't kill something and take its color within a 3-hour period. You
can trap me in a room for three hours and" he snapped and a cloud
of colors swirled around and disappeared, "poof. I'm gone. But I'm
slightly decent at fencing, I mostly rely on illusions and at the
worst times, to drain enemies of their color and life. These
flowers..."
He looked down on them, "I only drain them because I don't really
want to hurt others. I do hope they have an afterlife though, they
deserve it after me... murdering... them."
