You know the first rule in combat? Shoot them before they shoot you.
Aret shifted again, slowly opening her eyes. Despite the restoration, her entire body hurt. It wasn't unbearable, just very uncomfortable. She didn't say anything, still conflicted about herself. She leaned into Isla, smothering herself in her lover's clothes.

Adrik Volkov
Something caught in his throat. "It's the end of the world," he said hoarsely. "And you don't care? You killed five squadrons of innocent people and you don't care?"
He ignored the time user. He didn't care anymore about any of it. Because hell, if Kendo didn't, then why should he?
"I'm going to kill you," he breathed. "I swear I'm going to kill you."
Isla mumbled something from by his feet and he faltered. She was drinking from a glass, looking confused and tired, not seeming to comprehend anything around her, judging by the glazed look in her eyes and that she was accepting something from the so-proclaimed "time witch".
He laughed.
"I've done way worse. And you know what? In the grand scheme of things? This world is just one in quadrillions."
He glanced at Mona.
"Sorry, but the writers really want to see this play out."
wickedness?
Or is it
weakness?
You decide.

Aret sighed and clutched Isla's clothing. "I'm sorry..." She muttered hoarsely. She felt horrible for what she did.

Adrik Volkov
"You're a psychopath," he said emptily. "Devoid of conscience. Couldn't give a damn about anyone, because where would that leave you?"
His fist clenched by his side.
"You're sick-"
Isla made a confused, whimpering noise. He flinched away, and just kept on glaring at Kendo. "If anyone else won't kill you," he breathed. "If no one else has the courage, then I will. Magic be damned."
Adrik Volkov
This is my villain, Adrik realised. Wasn't it always going to come down to this? Ever since I swore that vow, before the gods themselves?
He tipped his head back, and squinted at the sun, wondering if some god were looking down on him. Cheering on his victory.
Adrik set his jaw and pulled his switchblade from its hiding spot on his belt.
I just need to connect. Just once, and then he's dead and everyone's safe... forever.
"A soul, my dear friend, is the very essence of your being, for a monster such as I."
Kendo glanced at Mona, letting go of her hand. He smiled.
"I follow the writers' will. You may call me a slave of destiny."
wickedness?
Or is it
weakness?
You decide.
Adrik Volkov
"You," he said coldly. "Have no idea what that's like. And you never will." He closed his fist around the knife and took in a deep shaking breath, preparing himself... to die. He knew he would not survive this fight.
Then he was up and running, zigzagging and in a final motion, he lunged for that heart in Kendo's chest, flicked the blade out, and closed his eyes, waiting for Kendo to run something through him.
It wouldn't be such a bad way to die... and isn't this what Isla wanted, after all?
Setsuna Jun
Setsuna awoke. All around him, there was blood. He didn't know what he was expecting. He'd seen it all. He knew what he'd done, who was dead.
She was.
He clapped his hands over his ears, trying to drown out the screaming voices in the back of his skull. But they weren't stopping. They were in his head now, crawling through his brain, a Saint's gentle touch pulling out his cerebellum-
He screamed at the top of his lungs, and even that wasn't enough to drown out any of it.

Aretstikaphaniela whimpered quietly and looked up at Isla. "Isla...? Where are we...?" She looked around and shook her head to Iteral. "Thank you..."

Adrik Volkov
"HE'S A MURDERER!" Adrik screamed at her. "He killed people- like it was nothing." He hiccupped. "I killed Isla's knight. The moment my knife went through his chest, everything went numb. And he doesn't feel that. He doesn't care. They said I could heal them, but I couldn't and-"
He lifted up the shaking hand he'd just used to stab Kendo.
His eyes slowly went wide and he sank to his knees.
Isla Greer
Isla blinked slowly. Reality was beginning to focus. Someone was in her arms...
And something was gone from her chest.
"Saint...?" she murmured.

You know the first rule in combat? Shoot them before they shoot you.
"Isla..." She teared up and held Isla's cheeks, beginning to cry. "Are you okay? What happened? I'm so sorry for what I've done- I-"

Adrik Volkov
"That was no fight," Adrik said without thinking. He stared at the knife on the ground, hand twitching by his side. How could I? After everything I said... I just turned out to be no better than him.
He almost felt like throwing up.
Is that all I am? A murderer?
One who cares for Isla Greer, Puppet said suddenly. That is something very few can say.
Adrik gave a surprised jerk and glanced around for the puppet.
Don't be a fool. I'm far off, in your backpack where you left me. My consciousness is merely tied to you at the moment. So I can hear your ridiculous suicidal thoughts and plans.
His voice gentled.
Go. Listen to her and take care of Isla, okay?
Adrik listened intently, but there was nothing more. Slowly, he got to his feet and turned to face Isla, who was staring down at the girl in her arms. Tragic beautiful Isla, scowl on her face to the end.
"It's alright," Isla said.
"It will be," Adrik spoke. Isla looked up, alarmed, and something in the cold, solidness of her face melted. "We can make it that way."
He kneeled with her next to the Saint. "Are you alright, Your Highness?"
