A bright sunny day. The last
day of holidays. It would be opening ceremonies tomorrow, and then
into the school year.
Everything was packed and ready, Athena couldn't wait for the first
day of school. Of course, that didn't mean the opening ceremonies,
she'd rather get a bad grade than dance around in that silly
costume. Everyone said she looked amazing and danced really well,
of course, but that didn't really matter. It was still dumb, no
matter how you looked at it. The last day of the holidays. A day
she didn't really have any plans on, just the last day of
relaxation.
The opening ceremonies... Kazue hated them. She was
relishing the last day of freedom before she would be expected to
return to studies. She light-leaped to the meadow she had told her
friends to meet her in, picnic basket tucked under her arm. She was
the first one there.
Kazue was early to everything. She hated being late. It twisted her
stomach into knots, and forced her eyes to glue themselves to the
watch her father had given her. She slid a small wooden flute out
of the pocket of her cotton dress, and lifted it to her lips. Music
tumbled out of the slender instrument, echoing through the meadow
sweetly.
Kazue loved music. Feeling the rhythm helped her accuracy and
focus, two skills especially important to a charger like her. She
smiled into the mouthpiece, and sat on a blanket, waiting.
Athena could already light leap without a nexus. It was a all time
record. And there were many trying to top it. But even so, her
leaping still needed practice. Just to be safe. So she decided to
get in some practice before school life took over. She chose a
random crystal on the Leapmaster, then stepping into the light and
way gone. She sparkled back in a meadow. Butterfly Valley, she
recalled from her textbooks. And there was someone there. "Hey
Kazue!"
Liam adjusted red tie on his suit. He very handsome, but on the
inside he is actually very annoyed by this occasion. 'The opening
ceremony... Why must everyone attend..'
Liam sighs, he lastly grabbed his silver rimmed glasses, which adds
a scholarly touch to him.
Liam wore a white dresshirt with gold lining and a long back suite
jacket and wore a crimson red tie.
He stepped out of the dressing room, and the maid handed him his
white gloves that make his skins look whiter.
Liam nodded in thanks, and headed towards the ballroom for the
opening ceremony.
"Hey Athena!" She said with a smile. "Are you excited for a new
school year at FoxFire?" She had seen Athena often enough
throughout the summer, but for the past three weeks, she had been
spending time in the Gnome Kingdom. Kazue had gotten back the night
before, only to repack anything for school.
“Opening ceremonies are for stuffy nobles who go to Foxfire and
think so highly of themselves, just because they have oh so
wonderful abilities.” Andrea commented as she twirled her goblin
throwing star idly. She was dressed similarly to other elves,
except she was lacking the cape only those with abilities were
allowed to wear. She had been in Butterfly Valley long before the
duo came for their little picnic. She tossed her hood back,
revealing curly, blood red hair and sharp blue eyes, fixing the duo
with a piercing gaze.
Kazue turned at the voice. "Umm, hi!" Oh my ogd, she had been
listening to her play... "I couldn't agree more. I was actually
thinking of skipping it tomorrow, but I'm not sure I have the
confidence."
Andrea strides forward, pocketing her goblin throwing star. “So
you’re not like other stuffy nobles, eh? But you still get the
privilege of attending Foxfire. Meanwhile, I am known as a
once-banished-but-now-allowed-to-return girl. And I’m Talentless as
well, so basically the disgrace of the elves.” She throws her hair
back and scoffs. “The worst part it, I was banished was an incident
that wasn’t even my fault. I don’t even dare to reside in the
residential areas of the Lost Cities anymore, what with people
pointing and judging me for being Talentless. But you know…..being
out in the Neutral Territories ain’t all bad. I’ve made friends
with the other intelligent species that stuffy nobility wouldn’t
even dream of.” Andrea smiles at the pair, cold blue eyes staring
at them. “The Lost Cities isn’t the perfect world everyone thinks
it is. I’m…..somewhat glad you think differently though. What’s
your abilities?”
"I'm a guster and telepath. Not the best combination. Tends to
cause accidental hurricanes. Which, basically means that the
council has got their eyes on me. And are watching very carefully.
But the council isn't always right you know. Not my fault people
have such strange thoughts."
“Sound like you aren’t the good girl most Councillors and nobility
want us to be. It’s nice to hear that. Like I said before, I’m
talentless. My best skill is outward channeling though. Plant a
seed and let it grow, it’ll crush blood metal and stone. I can even
do it easily, watch.” Andrea floats over a metal orb, sitting just
out of reach of the pair. She sits cross legged, closing her eyes
as she hummed. The metal ball vibrated, getting more and more
violent as time passed. It then exploded, falling to the ground as
shards. “So? Whaddya think?”
"That is really cool. I wish they taught that in school..." Up
until now, Athena had only heard of outward channeling as rumors
flying around. It seemed like the councillors didn't want them to
know it existed. Just another flaw.
Andrea smiles for the first time since meeting the duo. “That’s not
the only thing I can do. Abilities can be blocked unlike skills—
and fighting too.” With that, she takes out her goblin throwing
star, showing it to them. “This is pretty handy, especially if you
know how to aim well. This here is a gift from my Talentless
mother. She was killed by a Pyrokinetic.” She tosses her red curls
over her shoulder, then speaks again “Enough about me, how about a
demonstration of your powers as a Guster?”
"Ok, sure. If something goes wrong, I'm really sorry." Making sure
all thoughts were securely blocked, Athena summoned a gust of wind,
which whirled around her. She didn't want to do something crazy,
like create a whole tornado, but she had to put on a fair show.
Settling with shaping the wind into a compact sphere, she whipped
it at the nearest tree, completely obliviating it. Oops. Forgot she
wasn't supposed to destroy anything...
'Oh god... No... The Opening Ceremonies...' Starflower frowned. She
hated the dancing. And the partying. And everything else. She sat
quietly underneath the shade of a tree as she worked on finishing
touches to a sketch. She pulled out some lushberry paints and a
brush, and started adding color to the sketch. She lifted a finger
and gently twirled it to make a small bubble of water, which she
dipped her paintbrush in to get more color on the paper.
