For the briefest of moments, Jiu was almost impressed at the world
for so conveniently setting up ambient lighting while he was
wandering around an abandoned graveyard. But that thought was
quickly banished when devices screeched in protest to whatever odd
energies where tampering with it, the high pitched electrical wail
shooting past everything and piercing Jiu's mind. The immortal
crumpled onto the overgrown grass with a wail of its own, slender
fingers clawing at its ears as the ringing just. wouldn't. "STOP!"
It was almost like a miracle that the wrenching pain stopped as
soon as it started, the sky lightening and leaving Jiu to pant on
the ground, catching its breath. It felt too similar to a time when
Jiu was nothing and everything where the night and secrecy were its
constant companions. Jiu smiled mirthlessly, smearing its face into
the cool dirt for a moment. Having freakishly sharp senses weren't
a good thing.
With a grunt, Jiu pushed itself up and brushed off the grass
staining the leather and cloth, scowling at the amount of washing
it would inevitably have to do. The events still sparked suspicion
in its mind but Jiu's priority was finding its keys first before
cleaning up. Whatever was happening in the world, it could wait.
Jiu didn't want to involve itself in mortal matters anymore
"I'm fine... we should be far enough from the epicenter by now. We
can resurface..." Heleina muttered, still clouded from the vocal
barrage in her mind. "If you're happy about having the sewers for
yourself, then be it..." With that, she makes her way to the
nearest manhole cover, still supporting herself before pointing up.
"This one... is weak enough, a strong blow should open it."
'Thank god.' She almost audibly mumbled, but she managed to
bite her tongue and keep it in her head. She was starting to hate
this place due to how it affected them and also left a bad taste on
the whole relaxing experience she usually had with water. She gave
a sigh and looked from Algar to the sewer water beside them, almost
feeling a bit sad to leave. The hallucinations felt so real, and it
was nice seeing some of them again... If only it didn't come with
the cost of going even more insane than she already was like
Heleina. Her half-shut eyes suddenly snapped open in response to a
strange feeling, something she couldn't quite describe. She stopped
dead in her tracks, unmoving as she tried to focus on what the
strange feeling was. Something was off with the air... It felt
dense and heavy, almost as if it was trying to suffocate her. The
moment that she had felt this was horrible, it seemed to go on
forever. She began to raise her arm to her neck, trying to breathe
normally again, but as soon as she started to beg for air, the
feeling stopped. While the air became normal again, she did not.
Syrai continued to scratch at her neck, the memory alone keeping
her from stopping.
"The phrase “it’s just a
game” is such a weak mindset. You are ok with what
happened, losing, imperfection of a craft. When you
stop getting angry after losing, you’ve lost twice.
There’s always something to learn, and always room
for improvement, never settle."
-Sun Tsu, The Art of Gaming
Shaking his head in disbelief that he was about to help them,Algar
jogged his way towards the manhole Heleina pointed at. Though the
young girl seemed to act peculiarly,it came off to him as if she
was daydreaming. Either that or she was having a pleasant
hallucination, no matter the case, he didn't want to interrupt. "I
assume you can't open it in this state, huh?" A quick sigh
followed. "I'll see what I can do...for our mutual benefit that
is..." He said as he stood underneath it, punching and pushing it
using all his effort. He had a strange feeling about them. Their
characteristics and their body language seemed as if they were only
mimicing the ones of this generation's people. Then again,
he did meet them in the sewers...
Heleina stuttered and groaned, looking up to the manhole and then
down to her pocket, when Syrai caught her attention. With worry and
partial concern, as insanity and empathy don't usually pair well,
she grabbed the "suffocating" girl's head and gave a small hit to
the throat, which by usual standards, would force someone to
breath. "Breath... breath..." She whispered, with clueless
muttering in between and with a crazed look in her eyes.
Thankfully, the sudden pain went away very soon, leaving her with
only a memory burned into her mind yet again. She found it odd,
nothing like this had happened before with this reaction, probably
due to not having much terrifying memories associated with a sudden
change in the air, but it was just a thought. She slowly lowered
her arm and looked over at Heleina, a little embarrassed to have
attention drawn to her. "I'm fine." She muttered before
straightening up and turning away, everything about her was
completely back to normal like nothing had happened.
