The Kingdom of Thorned-Flowers is a large Kingdom of magic and tall, stone castles that stretch towards the sky and powerful Mages which defend the city from the dark creatures of the night, known as Coallings. However, they have only been defending the kingdom for seven-hundred years. A Coalling made it’s way to the King and Queen’s quarters and cursed them both to die in seven days. Knowing their days were limited, they set up a tournament of nine people to fight for the throne. The night before the tournament began, seven of the contestants were found dead and two were missing. The Kingdom grieved greatly for them, while search parties were sent to look for the missing ones. The day after the King and Queen passed away, one of them returned. She was named Queen Tsarleen of Roses, and the other missing person was never found.

Present day, the Queen is still alive due to her magic. You live in the outskirts of the city, training to be a Mage to defend the Kingdom in the Crimson-Thorns School. A group of To-Be-Mages in your class are training in the Forest of Fragile Flowers when you find something you think you shouldn’t have found. A eerie alcove of dirt and rock, coated in a thick layer of moss and vines. You move the vines covering the front of the cave. A chill rolls up your spine and neck. The stink of dried blood and rotting flesh floods the air around you, goosebumps covering your arms and legs. A rotting corpse was slouched lazily in the back of the cave, it’s face frozen in a horrified, painful, stiff expression. A diagonal slash was across their body, black, dried blood covering their torn clothes, thread loose and laying on the cold ground. You turned to run and scream, but something caught your eye. A fragile, flakey page of paper was held in their hands, the corners dog-eared, torn and dark with age. The words on the page were clear.

“Death to the Queen.”

Merek stopped dead in his tracks,he turned around and slowly walked towards the letter. "Is that really what it said?!? I can't see a thing in here!" he thought to himself. He doubted his vision due to the low lighting,it was just bright enough to see where you're going. After he leaned closer to take a better look at the letter, keeping his body a bit further from the corpse,he grabbed it and sprinted back to the others, still shivering from the shock.

I hope i started it well idk

"Don't touch it! Who knows what disease that thing carries."

Riva balked as the blonde ran out of the cave, with who knows what in hand. The body was of no matter to her- they were how she fed herself after all- but rot was a completely different animal. With a disgusted frown and a shake of her head, the disguised spideress glanced down at whatever he carried. Which was... just a piece of paper? Really? She sighed. "Does it at least say anything of importance?"

"This being infectious is the least worrying aspect of this letter! Here." He said as he held it in front of her. Not really close because it was quite dirty but close enough to be legible. Upon closer inspection he started to get a bit disgusted by the letter but he still held on to it.

Dustine, who was peacefully walking to the nearby forest to gather some herbs being assigned to her saw Riva and Merek and by the look of the outfit they were wearing, they were probably mages like her too. She decided to stop by and ask what they were talking about when she saw a dead corpse with the letter in the person's hands. She rubbed her eyes to make sure she wasn't just seeing things but she knew that it was real from the rotten stench it gave out. "Where did this come from?" she politely asked the two other mages. She knew she never met them, but it wouldn't hurt to make a few friends, right?

"My guess is as good as yours... It just felt odd,y'know? A corpse in a cave holding a letter, blackmailing not just any person but the..." he said as he looked around and then turned his head to face them again "... the Queen herself! " he whispered. He was afraid of getting heard which would result in him getting in trouble, also dragging Dustine and Rive into said trouble as well.

Dustine’s ears perked up at his words. She looked at the corpse for a long time wondering if the same faith happened to her long lost father. She sighed. “Well, standing and staring won’t really do any good. We ought we should just bury it? The stench is driving me crazy,” she said covering her nose. Having the senses of wolves, her ears and nose were very sensitive. “Also, sorry for the late introduction, but I’m Dustine. An ice mage in training,” she said outstretching her hand.

Merek shook his head for a bit. "Oh yeah, right. I got so invested and curioud regarding the letter and whatnot...excuse my manners. I'm Merek! Lightning mage in training,I guess." he said shaking Dustine's hand. He let out some small sparks as he released his hand, slightly zapping her. He snickered. He felt uncomfortable seeing as Rive was also there, would Dustine wait for Rive's handshake as well? He wasn't a fan of handshakes anyway. "Shouldn't we show it to the Queen and warn her?"

Riva glanced at the contents of the paper with a slight frown. It was concerning- not even the forest folk deigned to rise against the queen. Though she loathe to admit it. "Well. Does it really matter?" She asked, acknowledging Dustine with a slight nod of her head, but nothing more. A bit rude, yes, but she never understood why hands had to be shaken for greetings. "The one who held it is quite dead."

She remained silent for a moment, now staring at the poor wretch in the cave as if in deep thought. "Personally, I say we burn everything, leave, and be done."

"Because there is no way I am touching that. Absolutely not." The girl finished as she turned back to the other two mages. As Merck gave his name, she blinked. She supposed she had to as well. "Riva. Illusionist, I suppose."

Tirik closed his eyes again, letting his sense of smell guide the way. "What poor lout got killed out here... I wonder..." He bundled up his impressive length, about fourteen feet of snake body, then lunged, throwing himself into the air and landing on top of a small rock. His senses went berserk. Heat signatures! Voices! The smell of living flesh! The taste of magic in the air! Others! The only thing that hadn't gotten out of control was his sense of touch. Simply the warm rock beneath, and the light tunic on the upper half of our body. He looked down at the three others. Staying silent for a moment, he felt his fingers start to release their air clogging gas, the smoke he was so infamous for. Calling out, he grew curious. His sharp eyes had spotted an ancient piece of parchment among the few there. "Excuse me! Mind telling me who you killed?" He coiled up the most bottom few feet of his body, slowly wrapping himself until he stood only seven feet tall.

Dustine looked back at the newcomer. "We didn't kill someone, the person's already dead, and by the looks of it, for a long time," she said. The smoke that just appeared out of nowhere was making her eyes itch and her sensitive nose want to sneeze. "Is anyone burning stuff nearby?" she asked looking around for the source of the smoke. "Also, did you decide what we should do about this body?" she asked the other two.

A monotone voice burst out from round the corner. “Are you To-Be’s quite done yet?” His voice had an edge of rage to it, but overall the speaker sounded tired. “You’re overtime.” The Mages from the school recognised the voice’s owner as being Puzzle, one of their teachers. Leaves crunched and crackled beneath his footsteps as he walked closer.

"Oh shoot! A teacher's coming. Let's not burn anything, given that were in a cave full of vines and whatnot. Just leave the corpse rot " He turned his head to see how close the teacher is. "Since this letter is of great importance and neither of you want to hold it,I'll keep it for later." He said as he hid it. "If the teacher spots us next to this corpse we'll be in trouble for sure!" he said as he walked towards the exit of the cave in a somewhat fast pace. The air felt different, maybe it was the newcomer's doing.

Puzzle stopped walking for a moment. “...’Trouble for sure’? What in the lords name are you doing?” Puzzle demanded, his footsteps becoming louder and more aggressive as he neared their location. Puzzle’s face lit up in a disgusted expression, his.. or where his nose would be, scrunched up in horror. His hand lifted up, glowing white as he stared at the body. “Darius Flynn,” His hand stopped glowing as he lowered it to his side. His face seemed confused, as if he had a slight idea who they were. “We need to get back to the school.” He muttered, shooting a glance at the group who weren’t part of the school and gesturing for them to follow.

Merek stopped for a split second before continuing. "Darius Flynn? Is that the dead person's name? How does the teacher know about that?" he thought to himself. Merek nodded, since they were apparently overtime and everyone had already returned to the school. He was fully prepared to take the blame for this whole situation, letting the others off the hook. The teacher seemed intimidating and the atmosphere didn't help.

Sliding down from his small perch, Tirik glanced at the corpse. Shrugging a little, he turned to follow Puzzle. "Now, this is a school to train and strengthen magiks, right? Not just learn that magiks exist?" His voice has gained a sudden edge, almost a competitive or aggressive one.

Puzzle’s face turned bitter and challenging. “Of course. It’s to train To-Be Mages to protect the kingdom,” Puzzle’s voice was cold, with a mocking smile on his face. “You’re coming with us to discuss this mess in that cave.” Puzzle’s personality seemed to be the opposite of his jolly appearance.

"Sir please, the person was already dead when we entered that cave!" He had placed the letter inside his robe and tried his best not to mention it. "Do you perhaps know who that was, sir?"

"If you couldn't tell.." Tirik sped up, sliding to s stop in the dead leaves in front of Puzzle. " That body is too old to be a fresh kill. Trust me, I know. " His eyes gleamed, his tail wrapping in a large loop around his body.

“I have a feeling. I don’t want this word getting out, however. These loners are coming with us whether they agree or not,” Puzzle’s gaze darkened as he turned away with a pained expression. He seemed to think something grim before he turned back to the group. “I can tell what fresh blood verses blood which is hundreds of years old. You can trust me to know as well.” The challenging look on his face when he turned to look at Tirik radiated a knowledgable energy, almost a silent threat.
