Rumor has it that the ghosts that lived among H City*, Tokyo were the prime source of these marks. Through grudges or out of pure malice, no one truly knew the reason. It was only known: the Death Mark brings trouble.

(*I'm not kidding, that was the name of the original town in the game.)

Kujou Mansion, Outskirts of H City. Nightfall.

Riley had received a letter a few days ago regarding the infamous "Death Mark". A mark known to mess with one's memories and eventually kill those that have been branded with it. It wasn't the first time this mark has shown itself to public eyes. She was familiar with the urban legend.

The letter stated to visit the Kujou Mansion, a building that many had believed was abandoned. Lights were rarely on in the building, additionally, no one witnessed cars coming and going from the location. It was always quiet.

"So this is the building?" Riley asked herself, as she walked towards the locked gates to the mansion. Her hand reached out to check if the iron gates would budge. A rattling sound was heard as she kept shaking it.
Nothing.
Riley lifted the paper up to her pupils, eyeing the neat handwriting, "This feels like a waste of my time..."

Cameron walks to the person standing at the gate to the mansion he was told to go because of a letter he had received. She too,was holding a letter almost identical to his. "Are you the one who wrote that letter, or did you receive as I have?" Cameron asks, walking up behind Riley.

Riley jumped as Cameron walked up to the entrance. She calmed down, with it being dark it was understandable that she was a little startled. Riley shook her head, waving her letter, "Nope. I'm not the writer, sorry. I just found this in my mail recently. I'm starting to think this could be a prank..."

"Um, yeah. I thought it was a legend, however," Riley responded with a nervous mumble. She lifted her left arm to show a red bite-like mark near her wrist. It was a dark maroon, almost blending in with the shadow of the mansion gate.
"It just appeared... Gosh, I wish I can remember, but I've... had it for sometime now," Riley stated, tripping over her words. "Wait. Is that why you're here?"

Motoko is following Kino, the two of them had run into each other on their way to the mansion, “I can’t believe you think that stupid rumor is true! There’s no proof behind it, and now you just look like a baby! Haha baby boy!” She has her letter in her back pocket, wadded in so it doesn’t show.

Kino just ignores her and jogs over to the others at the gate. He waves his letter at them, “Hey! You guys got these too? Did one of you send this? And why are we meeting here, this place is not really a great choice for anyone... at least anyone alive.”

Cameron points to the one on his ear. "It's the reason we have all been sent here. I don't know about the mansion though, but I believe going inside would be the correct choice here."

"I already tried to open the gate, but--" Riley was interrupted by the sudden shouting of Kino. She turned her attention, somewhat surprised to see two more people arrive at the gate. Riley waved the hand holding a letter, therefore answering Kino's question.
"More people?"

Cameron turns. "I believe they have the death mark too. However, finding a way past the gate might be hard." Cameron says to Riley, then replies to Kino. "Neither of us sent the letter, we received it in the mail as you two did, I assume." Cameron explains to them.

"Yeah, two of us. I'm Kino, the brat back there," He points behind him at the girl sticking her tongue out at him, "is Motoko. She comes into the coffee shop I work at a lot, but she doesn't even remember going there once in her life. Anyway, what's the plan of attack to get into dark, tall, and creepy over there?" He gestures to the mansion, and his watch falls back to show the mark on his wrist.

Riley walked back a few feet, analyzing the perimeter for a second. Her eyes were squinted as she attempted to focus on the iron gates and its walls. "Anyone experienced in climbing over stuff?" She suggested with a small smile. Riley's smile faded as she clarified herself.
"I'm not sure if that'll work, but it's a start."
It's a mansion too. It'd be dumb to think it doesn't have some form of defense.

Kino shrugs, "I might look like one still but I'm no delinquent. Breaking into places isn't my thi- and there goes Motoko. She's going to kill herself." He's watching Motoko try to climb the fence, "Hey, monkey girl. Knock it off! You look like an idiot."

Motoko sits at the top of the fence and looks down, at the bushes below her, "I don't care that I look like an idiot. I want to prove to all of you babies that there's no point in believing that 'Death Mark' nonsense." Her sock slips down showing her mark before she pulls it up, "Now tell me the plan to get you inside after I'm down."

Riley turned to see Motoko on the fence and began to also voice her thoughts.
"Hey, I don't think that's a good idea!" Riley shouted, using her hands as a megaphone. Just as she said that, the locked gates of the mansion made a loud clunking sound. They opened slowly and squeaked loudly.

Cameron simply struts through the get as if it was his doing. "I suggest you get off." He says, looking up at Mokoto. "Also, I don't think anyone would just come to an abandoned mansion to prove something is fact. There might be a murderer in there, you never know." He says, looking up at Mokoto.

Motoko pales for a moment before regaining composure and jumping down into the bushes. There’s a soft thud and the crunch of several branches, “I know there isn’t. That would be so stupid and cliche! Only little baby kids believe that type of nonsense.” She slowly stands up and crosses her arms.

Kino just sighs and heads through the gate, “This murderer has great handwriting and way too much time as well. And to bother four other people and then bring them here? That’s some really intense dedication.”

Riley shrugged as she followed Cameron towards the mansion. "Well, we can look at it this way: if the legend of the Death Mark killing people is true..." She trailed a little then finished her sentence.
"Think of a plausible murderer as a form of giving us mercy?" Riley gave an awkward smile. She was really uncertain about the idea. She would continue to walk ahead, nervous.

Motoko runs to catch up to the others, “This is so dumb. Childish ghost stories and then old mansions? And if the Death Mark rumors are true why are we waiting around here?”

Kino looks at her and rubs the back of his head. He looks at a nearby window, “Hey, was there a light on in this place earlier?” He can see on the top floor that there’s a bunch of windows lit up that he hadn’t noticed before.

"N-no. I don't... It was completely dark before," Riley stammered as they arrived at the door. As Cameron knocked on the door, it opened a jar. It was already unlocked. Riley noticed the door opening and began tripping over her words before speaking once more.
"I don't get it? Why lock the gates, but keep the actual door unlocked?"
