Rose took a deep breath. "Kovu and I will be trying to work with
one of the dragons and if we get hurt, or well, if I get hurt, I
will need your help covering why I was hurt. I probably wont let
Kovu get too close until we trust them" she said.
Kona looked at her cousin again as he smiled weakly with a nod.
''Dragons? Right?" He laughed quietly. ''Never thought you would
hear all that in the same sentence!" Kovu looked down. Kona was
rather flattered by Rose's words to put herself in danger besides
Kovu who she easily could. She sighed with a small nod. ''I have
two books that describe all the wounds you could expect when your
village is hunting...Rather funny book if you ask me...but I will
have excuses for you till you don't need any. Though why dragons?
Why do you want to work with such creatures?"
Rose sighed. "One had the chance to kill me today, but it didn't
take it. If I can work with them, we wont have to fight anymore. We
can finally be at peace with them, which is what I want" she said.
Kona was rather shocked to hear Rose and her tale of this dragon.
''It knew you were there but did nothing at all?" She backed up a
bit. ''I am sure this has to do with what your mother had said?"
She asked. ''Or do you truly wish for peace?"
Rose sighed. "Both. I want to show her she is wrong about them, and
me. But this village, it needs peace with the dragons more than
anything in the world right now, and that what I want to give
them."
Kona was rather worried at the thought of approaching dragons and
nodded a bit. ''You are rather insane.'' She said quietly with a
smile. ''To think of a dragon being on our side.'' She nodded.
''Could you report back here after each venture?" She asked quietly
as if someone was listening. ''I would like to know how everything
is going with you two. I don't plan to go to the village due to the
way people are acting right now and I rather be out here in
case...a dragon does show up. However, I would love to know how the
dragon treats you since it didn't kill you.''
Rose nodded. "We will let you know when we leave and come back. I
promise, and I thank you greatly for your help." She smiled before
she looked out the window. "I hope with your help, both of your
help, we will make things better."
Kovu pat his cousin on the shoulder before smiling at Rose. ''Well,
I hope we help you in all ways possible. You actually care for the
lives of dragons and I think that is rather kind of you. I am sick
of the bloodshed and the desire to fight.'' He smiled. ''Oh, Rose,
should I sabotage weapons?" He asked. ''I mean, I don't think it
should be terrible to do so...unless dragons actually attack us.
Kind of worried that we will meet the dragon that we attacked last
night. Probably doesn't like people.'' He sighed.
Rose thought for a moment. "Only sabotage half our weapons so we
still have some if a dragon was to attack" she replied. "We don't
need them all still around."
Kovu smiled a bit towards Rose with a nod. ''That can be doable for
sure. I would hate to anger a dragon and have it return to the
village to cause pain.'' He sighed. ''I will for sure sabotage our
cousins.'' He glances at Kona who rolled her eyes in agreement.
''Better to stop any of his chances. We truly don't want you to
join our family...at least not through him.'' She warned. ''Did you
try talking your father out of the arrangement? I thought you two
were close as he seems more open than your mother. Don't tell me he
agrees with her...''
Rose sighed. "I was going to and then my mother showed up and
interrupted. I fear she will make him marry me off to whoever kills
a dragon, which probably won't be the best idea for the tribe."
Kona flinched. ''What if it is an older guy? How is that right for
you or the tribe? Make sure you sabotage the weapons of the...the
people you know for a fact shouldn't even have a chance with Rose.
Just in case. I do hope you find someone though, Rose. You deserve
to be happy. I think half the village thought you were going to be
with Hunter, so I am sure everyone stayed away from you that may
have liked you.'' She sighed. ''Oh I just can't believe what the
parents expect of us! It is like they do not care about us. I think
if you two are able to get a dragon on our side, we should banish
forced marriages. You should make that a law here, Rose. Not more
forced marriages when you become the leader. I am sure you and I
are not the only ones facing unhappy marriages.''
Rose nodded. "I know most thought I would end up with Hunter, but
we just don't like each other in that way, and I agree. Forced
marriages need to go. I do not know how anyone can be happy with
them." She looked out the window and took a deep breath. "I just
hope we can make friends with them before a dragon gets hurt."
Kona sighed in agreement. ''As do I...but what do we know about
dragons?" She asked, glancing at Kovu who shrugged. He had no idea
really anything about dragons himself. ''Yeah, Rose, what do you
know about dragons?" He asked. ''We should probably write down all
we encounter when trying to interact with the dragons. That way, we
can learn more and more.''
Rose looked between Kona and Kovu. "What I saw today was each one
has its own size, and what seems like their own power" she replied.
"But beyond that, we don't know much else." She let out a small
sigh. "We should make a journal for sure and yes, notes will be
important. I do not know why I didn't think of it myself."
Kona moved over to a little shelf and ran her hand along the wood,
trying to dust it basically. As a child she remembered the healer
place books away with interesting covers. She searched each before
spotting a dragon enclosed in a spiral. The spiral was gold and the
dragon was a moss green. ''Here.'' She glances over the pages
before holding the book out to Rose. ''I saw this book a long time
ago and it seems it has never been used for it purpose. Take it as
a gift and for your journal.'' She smiled. ''Maybe even the dragon
will see that you are curious and interested, it will just want to
speak to you! Peek your interests. May even wish to talk about
itself! I heard they were very boastful. At least in our children's
books.'' She smiled. ''Kovu, make sure she uses it.'' She winked.
''This could be a new age! Rose, you could be saved from a terrible
marriage. I mean, it would be hilirous if one of the elders kills a
dragon or even Hunter's father. As we know that is impossible, so
you are safe from them at least.''
Kovu rolled his eyes. ''Cyrus obviously cannot raise a kid, so I
can't imagine he can kill anything right either.''
Rose smiled as she looked at the book. "I wonder what all is in
here about the dragons already" she said before she looked and Kona
and Kovu. "I should hope he cannot kill a dragon, but I do hope we
can befriend one before that happens" she replied.
Kovu agreed with Rose, sighing. ''Can I punch him or Hunter?" He
merely asked. ''I am afraid Hunter is going to tell on you for
leaving the village at any time just to get at you for making his
father yell at him.'' He glances at Kona who rolled her eyes. ''If
we just ignore them and you two befriend dragons...I think we are
fine...''
Rose shook her head. "He doesn't usually tell anyone when I leave
unless its important" she replied. "Possibly acting like they
aren't around may be our best bet."
Zeek headed down the mountain slowly, planning on heading to the
water and soak a bit. He was rather sore in his old age and needed
the relaxation.
