So... Basically , I think Pokeheroes needs some more gender icons than just male and female. I mean , it's great that you can change them , especially nice for transgenders , but on the other hand , if you don't identify as male or female , or identify as both ( Agender , bigender , non-binary etc. ) it kinda sucks to have people use male/female pronouns due to the gender icon next to your name.
So my suggestion is to have some more gender icons on Pokeheroes.

With all the respect, but there are ONLY two genders according to human being: male OR female.
Personally, I'm neutral in this topic. Maybe a new gender type: genderless really should be included as we're talking about Pokémon world.

1.Earlier on in this thread teius stated "Grubbinz, Im not sure how allowing more preferences to the players would cause controversy or anger." Then there was a mini-argument about it. This show's that some people on the site may be upset about it & maybe protest/argue. I'm pretty sure Riako doesn't want big fightup on the site...
2.Other sites, do not have these icons. They have male,female and other/genderless. In the first post this was stated. " it kinda sucks to have people use male/female pronouns due to the gender icon next to your name." If you are a tomboy and don't wanna be called girl/gal/lass etc., then put your gender as male.
3.This is not meant to offend anyone but seriously, if we go by science you are either male or female. If you have a sex change, just put down that you are (whatever you had your sex changed to). We were not born on this planet as agender,bigender or non-binary, we were born as male or female.

I agree to your last argument, but you should see it the way they feel, not what they are. If you neither feel as male nor female, you should have the option "genderless" to let others know about it.
I personally am and feel like a female, but I know some people that don't feel like a girl or boy, and they hate being called a girl/boy.
However, I support this idea, you should have at least the option to be known as "genderless" or have the option to hide your gender.

Yes , like on Furvilla. And the way the arguments are heading on this post , I think we should already be lucky if there's gonna be a 'hide' or 'other' option.

Number 3 of your first post. There actually exist a third group of people that does not fit in the binary of male or female. Intersex people, or hermaphrodites, though the latter is an outdated label since the former is more of an umbrella term. They have different chromosomes, gonads, sex hormones and genitals that doesn't allow them to be classified as the society standard of the binary male or female. They can identify as whatever they feel like, male, female or anything under the nonbinary spectrum. It's considered a taboo to most/some and if they reveal this to the public they would be called a 'freak' so it's not really suprising some people aren't aware unless they truly care or learned about it.
As for the suggestion itself, if not a bunch of symbols are going to be added, atleast the neutral one that is usually used on genderless Pokèmons would suffice. PokèHeroes is about adopt and collecting not being a second tumblr but with young kids that probably isn't even aware of the subject.

Though if I were to put out my opinion on this, I'd have to say no support.
I'm sorry, but we were all born either as a female, or a male. And it's personally best to leave it at that. This definitely would cause potential arguments, and I know this for a fact.
On a side note, there are a lot of children here on PH, and all those other gender icons are bound to start confusing then, or give them wrong thoughts etc.
I would agree to something like HIDING your gender. The same way we have the option to hide signatures, but definitely no other icons.
