Which was the best, and worst, pokemon gen?
Forum-Index → General Discussion → Which was the best, and worst, pokemon gen?My favourite gen is gen 2 because it was the first one I played.
The worst, in my opinion, is between gen 5 and 6. I wasn't fond of Unova at all, nor the introduction of the fairy types which is now my least favourite type.
How about you? ⌒.⌒
The worst? Ahh.. Oh! I know, gen 3. Yes, come at me. I hate gen 3 because of the Pokemon, first, they arent good, the only Pokemon i even like is Treecko and Spheal. The story isnt that great either. And all the hype it get. I just want to walk away.
Gen 5? Ugh, not for me thanks. Unova is the region I am the least fond of and even though I like Sylveon, most of the pokemon felt to me like cheap re-makes. I usually have an immediate love for the starters in each game but in Black and White? Nope. I'm just not that fond of it.. T-T
For me, Gen 4 will always reign supreme- Not only were DP/P/Pt great, HG/SS were perfect remakes of the originals and will always last in my mind as a fond memory.
The worst is unarguably Gen 5. While it had enough features to keep me entertained 'til the end, it just didn't draw me in like the other Gens did.

Personally, I favor Gen III. Most of my favorite Pokémon are from Hoenn, Contests were a nice addition to the games, and the anime was at its best back then.
However, I liked the plot and Pokémon of Gen IV (Sinnoh) as well.
Worst in my opinion? Gen I. I'm not even talking about the graphics (like ~Hatoko~ said, graphics aren't everything- I actually really like a lot of the R/B sprites). I'm talking about the shallow plot, there being nothing to do but battle, the abundance of glitches, and the game being too easy (probably because there's nothing to do but grind).
They've made a lot of improvements over the past twenty years, y'know?
What if we put down our signs, crossed over the lines, and loved like You did?"
gen 1 is my least favorite (even though my absolute favorite pokemon comes from there) , the glitches are a redeeming factor for me tho because i've always found them entertaining, not much else in gen 1 is very fun to me
Through the woods a girl came sadly.
Something broken in her chest.
She had dared to love another.
Alas, no better than the rest.
Up my path the girl came gladly.
Something opened up my doors.
I longed to stop her bleeding heart.
And so I called her to my shores.
Those you trust will hurt you badly.
Something now I'm sure you see.
So drown your tears in me my dear.
As you drown, my dear, in me.
My least favorite is probably gen 3 specifically R/S/E(because FR/LG were perfect). Why do I consider it the worst? I just found it so uninteresting. I wasn't a fan of any of the characters, I found the enemy teams to be dumb with motives that just didn't make sense to me, and I wasn't a huge fan of most of the Pokemon.
My favorite would have to be gen 4. It was the first Pokemon game I ever got real into. Quite a few of my favorite Pokemon come from it and I always loved the mining feature. Four of my favorite trainers are from there, too~ (Thorton, Riley, Lucas, and Barry)
Least favorite would have to be gen 5. The only things I really enjoyed about it were N, Serperior, and maybe four other Pokemon. Overall I think it had the worst Pokemon designs and I could never get really into it, especially since I didn't even know which starter to pick as I didn't know what Serperior was. Why I didn't know what to pick? Because I didn't like any of them.
After gen one, two and three I sort of lost touch with pokemon so gen four and five are ones I know least about, and though I tried to play the white and black games they never really pulled me in. :/ Maybe someday I'll try again.
My least favourite is gen 1 because it's boring, glitchy, not much storyline and the Pokemon are mainly ones I'm not intrested in except for a few like Ekans and Dragonite.Even my least favourite Pokemon comes from gen 1.
Let me tell you a story about my first ever game for my gameboy. Me and my parents walked into a store (probs walmart) when I was like 6. We walked past a HUGE box filled with gameboy game cases.
So my dad caught me staring, and told me to pick ONE game.
You know where my eyes lead me to? Directly to the case of an awesome green dragon saying Pokemon on the top.
I didn't know what pokemon was, I really just liked fantasy type things and monsters etc etc.
So I got that, opened it up in the car, and started playing.
From the moving truck, to the intro of Wally and your Father, to the rival/partner May, to the cool bikes and many fishing rods, to Team Magma and Aqua, to the Trick Room House, to the Legendary Pokemon...I fell in love with this game. It was the best thing ever.
But, a couple years later, I was given Gen 4 by my brother, Diamond in fact. The look of Dialga was so cool, and just the name...DIAMOND. I hopped right on in after not playing pokemon since I struggled with the first gym of Pokemon Gold, and playing PMD Red Rescue Team, and from there I loved the starter Chimchar. Looked so cool. (Btw, for Gen 3, my starter was Treeko).
I enjoyed the cool rivalry between you and Lucas? Idk his name. Then also Dawn was cool too.
The new features were so cool! Going underground, discovering new fossilized pokemon, having a Pokeradar, having the cool PokeWatch apps, having an online GTS for the very first time, and having all these cool legendarys...
Gen 4 changed Pokemon completely. Just look at all I mentioned. Gen 4 WAS the turning point.
Now, my most DISLIKED, has to be Gen 5.
So much walking...so much trying to go back and forth.
And the experience gains were so little.
The experience was like watching Pokemon, about to see an epic battle, but Team Rocket comes in a ruins everything and kills the mood.
The only thing enjoyable was...(having a hard time thinking here)...um....ummmmm....idk.
Maybe the ending with fighting N. That was probably the best part.
Everything was just lame.
on the other hand, although i like the remakes of gen 2, i dislike gen 2 itself. i can appreciate the starters, typhlosion, meganium and feraligatr are all just awesome, but many of the Pokemon in gen 2 i find to be so... not needed. while i like magby and elekid, i seriously hate smoochum. surfing between olivine and cianwood with all of the tentacools was horrible (i know there is a similar case of surfing in most other gens but yeah). the zubats, oh wow the zubats. i know there are zubats in most games but i still feel with all the caves in gen 2 that this gen was the worst for zubats. why does hoppip know splash, it floats on winds, when is it in water splashing? i can appreciate celebi and lugia. i was a child with no internet and the only person i knew who played pokemon, so even if i wanted some of the cool pokemon that this generation offered i couldn't (slowking, politoed, scizor, steelix, kingdra, possibly 1 or 2 more). it left a lot of pokemon to be completed by gen 4 such as yanma murkrow etc, i'm not going to challenge the E4 with all these baby pokemon. i could go on for longer but if anyone is left still reading this i'm sure you wish to live your life and i would take up a lot of your time.
