Censored version?
Forum-Index → Suggestions → Rejected → Censored version?Last night, I received a warning for posting an inappropriate feed (which is completely understandable; I apologize) and it made me think: what if there was a way to select whether you would like to censor your messages or not?
For example, if you want your notifications to be "censored", there would be a setting in the Settings area where you can select
Censor?
Yes or no.
I can't give an example of what it would look like, but it would be similar to the Gender one in the Misc. Settings.
Whenever you post a feed, you have to choose whether or not the feed contains mature content, and those users who want their notifications censored wouldn't see it; even if that person is on their friend list. Feeds containing sexual things and/or language would be considered mature, and users who are under {insert age here} would automatically have their feeds censored. I'm not sure if there's already been a suggestion like this, but I believe it would make PH more child-friendly :>
Feel free to state any opinions! They're appreciated ♥
Okay so, to start.. there is no way to tell what age a person is on the internet. People lie about their age all the time, and so a 9 year old kid could say they're 20+ and then not have their feeds censored because they lied about their age.
Also, feeds wouldn't even need to be censored if people just didn't post things like that. I mean, when you post things like that, you're breaking Rule 1.1, so you technically shouldn't be posting those types of feeds at all.
Honestly if people just followed that rule, there would be no problem at all, so I don't necessarily see why this is needed.
The problem would be that people on the internet lie. Sometimes, little kids don't want to wait until they're old enough for the mature stuff, so they lie about their age to be able to already see the 'censored' side of the internet.
Which is also why that rule is important and having a censoring feature won't help as much as we'd (probably) like. Users who lie about their age to see the 'mature' content, won't use that censor-feature, as it would defeat the purpose of having lied, and won't be put in the automatic 'censor' list, because according to the site, they're old enough to see it.
This feature, to me, seems more like a way to get around rule 1.1 (thus encouraging rule breakers), as the reason this would be implemented, is shielding young players (who didn't lie about their age) from feeds that actually break said rule. All I can see happening if this is implemented is more mature feeds 'because they can be censored through the Misc. Settings', even though they'd still be against the rules...
(tldr; it sounds nice, but personally, I can only see this backfiring)
