Then, he strokes her cheeks and removes his hands painfully.
No longer here.
"Compliments of my father," Evangelina smiled sweetly at him.
"Compliments these," slapped in her face.
"Don't do it to me like that," said Lt. Gen. Erickson.
"Everyone, let's meet our new slave. She is the daughter of the pathetic general in United States, Lt. Gen. Lovelace. Ms. Evangelina Lovelace," said Lt. Gen. Erickson.
Some soldiers catcalled, whistled her and even said malicious words against her.
No longer here.
"Cowards!" she shrieked, "You think just because you can beat up chained women you'll win this war? Let me out of these and I'll show you what real fighting looks like! You could all use a lesson! What's the matter? Afraid I'll beat you in front of you're worthless men?"
She spat at him again, this time, it landed in his eye. She bent over laughing at the look on his face.
"Yeah, I know. I guess we have to bombard the fort near Charleston. That way, we can gain victory for our Confederate States," said Lt. Gen. Erickson laughed.
When Evangelina spat her in the eye, he covered his eyes.
"Yowch!," said Lt. Gen. Erickson, rubbed his eyes. "I can't see."
"General, are you okay?" said Cassius's dad.
No longer here.
Then, Lt. Gen. Erickson had no other choice, but to ignore Evangelina. Lt. Gen. Erickson announced what to do tomorrow, while he covers his right eye.
"Today, I announce you what will be your first task as a Confederate States. We will bombard Fort Sumter," said Lt. Gen. Erickson.
The soldiers, including Cassius, shouted.
"Tomorrow, we will wake up at exactly 4:00 AM and we will be heading to Fort Sumter. And then, we will bombard Fort Sumter," said Lt. Gen/. Erickson. "Nobody will stay here in this camp, until we ruined every single walls in the fort," said Lt. Gen. Erickson.
The soldiers, including Cassius, shouted.
"Commander Madison, will you do the honors," said Lt. Gen. Erickson.
"Proceed, sir," said Cassius's dad.
Then, Cassius's dad announce the area of the bombardment.
"Okay, 54th to 61st Battalion, you will be bombarded northern and the eastern of the fort. 62nd to 71st Battalion, you will bombarded the southeastern fort. Then the 72nd to 82nd Battalion, you will bombarded the southern and the southeastern part of the fort. Then, 83rd to 95th Battalion---," said Cassius's dad.
"Oh great, now we have to deal with Hector," said Kyle sarcastically.
"You will bombarded the rest of the fort. That is all I want to say," said Lt. Com. Madison. "Do you copy," said Lt. Com. Madison.
"Yes, commander," said all the soldiers on the ground.
"I said, do you COPY?" said Lt. Com. Madison
"YES, COMMANDER," said all the soldiers on the ground.
Then, Lt. Gen. Erickson started to speak.
"You can go now to your tents, and get lots of sleep," said Lt. Gen. Erickson.
All of the soldiers are now at the tents. Then, Lt. Gen. Erickson went to Evangelina.
"When you returned to Perryville, you're father will be dead after this," Lt. Gen. Erickson said. He hold her cheeks and laughed. Then, he removes his hand from her cheek.
No longer here.
She kicked him, managing to hit his knee so hard he was forced to the ground.
"That is how you fight! Even chained up, I pose a threat to you. And I'm only an untrained girl. My father and his men are going to slaughter you tomorrow," Evangelina snapped at him. "And then we are going to free all of the innocent people you keep as slaves."
"You are dismissed, coward," she told him, sounding like a higher officer dismissing someone lower then them.
She stood there, awkwardly. She still couldn't sit down because in her dress, she needed both hands to help lower herself to the ground. And they where essentially useless at the moment. She looked around, hoping to finds a nail or something she could use to pick the lock of the cuffs.
"Man, that girl in the post thinks she is brave," said Kyle.
"That's because she is the daughter of Gen. Lovelace," said Cassius.
"She's the daughter of Gen. Lovelace of the Union?" said Kyle.
"Have you listened to Gen. Erickson before?" said Cassius.
"Sorry, I was focused when Hector will be on our group in the bombardment," said Isaac.
"I know, but we have to ignore Hector for now," said Cassius.
"What if Hector interrupted us," said Kyle.
"Just ignore him. He's nuts," said Cassius.
"I agree with you, Cassius," said Kyle.
"But, we need to sleep for now. I'm (yawn) tired," said Paul.
"Great idea," said Isaac.
"Okay, soldiers. Good night," said Cassius.
"Good night," said Isaac, Kyle and Paul simultaneously.
Then, Isaac, Kyle and Paul slept.
"Darn it. I'm doomed, if someone catches me," said Cassius.
"Catches what, Cassius?" said Isaac.
"N-Nothing. Let's get back to sleep," said Cassius.
Then, Cassius fell asleep.
No longer here.
A few hours later, she gave up. She was still standing there. Her legs screamed at her to sit down but she couldn't without falling to the ground and needing someone to help her up later. And she refused to let any of them see her like that. She looked up at the stars.
"Please...just send him a sign. Anything to warn him..." Evangelina asked any power that might be listening. The stars began to twinkle and she realized she was crying.
"Today, is the day, we bombarded the Fort Sumter," said Gen. Erickson.
The soldiers shouted with joy.
"We should be heading now to Fort Sumter, now," said Gen. Erickson. "All soldiers will never stay here in this camp," said Gen. Erickson. "Did you carry along your shotguns and cannons," said Gen. Erickson.
All of the soldiers are shouted, except Cassius. Remembering that he forgot to put his shotguns.
"Oh shoot, I forgot to put it," said Cassius.
"What now?" said Kyle.
"I just have to find it," said Cassius.
"But if you stay here, you're dead if Gen. Erickson knows that you were left behind. Don't worry, Cassius, I will help you find the shotgun," said Kyle.
"No need, Kyle. I will do it by myself," said Cassius.
"But, you're done for, if..." said Kyle.
"No, Kyle. I'm fine. Promise," said Cassius.
"Fine. But Isaac, Paul and I will keep an eye for you," said Kyle.
"No need for that, you will headed first. I'm just find my shotgun," said Cassius.
"Okay," said Kyle.
After Cassius and Kyle eavesdropping, Gen. Erickson speaks.
"Okay, now. We'll be heading to Fort Sumter," said Lt. Gen. Erickson.
All soldiers are shouting.
Then, Gen. Erickson strokes her cheeks painfully and said.
"You're father will be dead soon," said Gen. Erickson laughing.
No longer here.
Evangelina held herself with as much grace, composure, and bravery of a true Union soldier. She was very intimidating in that moment. Many of the soldiers around them shifted nervously.
Evangelina spit at him again. "You are no match for the power of the Union! Even chained, I pose a threat to you. My father will take you all down for the cowardly scum you are. The Union will be a slap on the wrist in comparison to Gods punishment. You have taken his children and hurt them. Your judgment day will be long and hard for what you have done to the people you enslaved. It isn't right."
She looked around at them with a mixture of pity, disgust, and superiority.
"Spit all you want. Talk all you want. Threaten all you want. You only do is words. WORDS, I tell you," then Gen. Erickson shouted. "Now, go to Fort Sumter," yelled Gen. Erickson.
Then, Cassius runs backwards and hides at his tent, without noticing someone, while he finds his shotgun. Then, Kyle and the gang were leaving.
"Say, where's Cassius?" said Isaac curiously. He thinks that Cassius is up to something.
"He forgot to put his shotgun," said Kyle.
"What? I can't leave him behind," said Isaac and stopped from running. So as Kyle and Paul.
"No, he will be fine. He's a serious leader to our battalion after all. So, no need for panicking," said Kyle.
"No, I will stay here," said Isaac.
"Just... go," said Kyle, holding Isaac's arm.
"Please, let me go," said Isaac.
"Just go with me," said Kyle pulling his arm to Fort Sumter.
"Let me go," said Isaac with pity.
Then, Kyle, Isaac and Paul left the camp, and so the officials.
Then, when he doubled-check the camp, nobody was left, except Cassius and Evangelina.
"Darn it. Where's my shotgun?" said Cassius.
No longer here.
He grabbed her chin and kissed her.
"No!" Evangelina yelled, biting him. Then pushing him off of her as best she could.
Hector backhanded her and Evangelina saw stars.
"Shoot! Hector's here," said Cassius.
Hector heard Cassius's voice.
"Who's there?" said Hector.
Then, Cassius hides at the tent. Hector turned to Evangelina, while Cassius runs to the next tent, until he walks to the nearest tent in the post. The, Cassius secretly listened to them.
No longer here.
Hector gripped her chin tightly and kissed her again.
She felt his tongue in her mouth and bit down hard.
"Ow!" He roared, pulling back. He spit out blood. "You are going to pay for that! And I know just the way you can do that!"
He knocked her to the ground, pinning her legs down so she couldn't kick him.
Her arms where above her so she couldn't hit him.
