Melody kept piling dirt on until it was completely covered.
Suddenly, the dirt lit up from the light underneath the dirt coming
from the glass flower. There was an audible cracking noise and the
muffled sound of glass shattering. The link had broken.
Kieran's tail started wagging. Nice, they'd done it without a
hitch! But when they got out of the maze, the zombies would
probably attack them again... hopefully the elemental could help
them.
Melody stood up, brushing her hands off. "Well, that's done." The
echoing voice spoke again. "Thank you, all of you. But it doesn't
end yet. I'm waking up now, and my power is returning little by
little. I will do my best to get you out. Look for claw marks on
the leaves while I try and regain my strength." Melody bit her lip.
"Okay, at least we have a way out."
Kieran exhaled, feeling slightly less stressed. A warm breeze
passed through the maze, and when it left, Kieran noticed what
appeared to be little scratches on the nearby leaves! He nosed the
nearest one, yelping at it, before trotting along. His view of the
maze low to the ground was useful when looking for the claw marks.
Melody hurried over, also seeing the claw marks. "Great job!" She
followed after Kerian. The voice said, "You're on the right track.
Follow the path that the leaves make, and they will lead you to the
one who will bring you to the entrance."
As the group wandered through the maze, the sun began making it's
descent, giving each leaf a golden tint. Just a little longer till
they were out of the maze, and till Kieran could shift back into
his human form! He was still deciding how to show the humans that
fact... it was going to be awkward.
Melody followed the leaves, which lead to a large gated area, with
a house in the middle. She glanced down at the racoon dog and
pointed. "Whaddya think, then? Should we go in?" Melody had no idea
if he could understand her or not, but then again, he had solved
the riddles so maybe he could.
Kieran pondered the question for a bit. The elemental said it was
safe, and there hadn't been any downsides to trusting it... So the
answer was probably yes. He nodded, hoping he was right.
"Alright then." Melody pushed open the gate and stepped into the
yard, heading for the house.
The general frowned. "I do not know. There is no way for us to
track them, the Labyrinth repels us, and there is no way to destroy
it with our weapons or magic. Perhaps exhaustion has claimed the
brats. We will prepare to kidnap more test subjects."
The door swung open as Melody approached it, revealing a brightly
colored room with a long table. The sounds of boisterous laughter
and music could be heard, and someone seated at the end of the
table had their back turned to them.
The general began ordering the zombies to bring back more children.
He let acid drip from his mouth, as he let it set aflame. The
poison turned the fire blue and green, as it creeped down the
stone. The strange acid and flame combination went into the rock,
and turned it black, reducing the stone to a mud-like consistency
in seconds as he growled in hidden rage
Wow... this place sure was chaotic. Kieran didn't think there was
time to party, though. He padded up to the figure at the foot of
the table and let out a resounding bark.
He roared through the cave, and sprayed a large amount of acid,
flames coiling around it, green and blue wrapped together. It hit
the cave wall, and carved grooves, sludge dripping down, the rock
melting away like meat flesh in fire
Kieran sprang back, not expecting to see black feathers and a beak
on the guy - well, monster - at the table. What was going on? He
looked at Melody, waiting for her to ask questions as she usually
did.
