Inside, a young family of three huddled in one corner. A mother and her young children. The other two were an older couple, curled together and clearly in love still. They all looked over at Cassie worry fading to smiles. Max stayed by Cassie's side.

Octavius inched closer, helping him. "I am glad you approve."

Cassie looked around at the five pairs of eyes, and she smiled slightly seeing their smiles. "I'm here to keep you all safe, I'll be using my power to do that, so don't be frightened..." She spoke calmly but loud enough to be heard. Slowly she shifted up into her half form hen seamlessly into her full form ending on all fours. She waited a moment for them to understand, then she moved over to the older couple and sniffed them memorizing the scent. Then to the family. She hoped the children wouldn't be frightened of her.

"I mean, who wouldn't approve? Your smile is perfect, and your laugh is practically music... I assume it's because you've never faked a smile or laugh before, so the ones you show are true to the core." Jason said more seriously.

The couple smiled, letting her do her thing. "Thank you, brave soul," the woman murmured before Cassie moved to the family. The little girl giggled and wrapped her arms around Cassie's leg, babbling up at her. She giggled again, flowers sprouting beneath their feet. Her mother scooped her into her arms. "Sweet pea, she isn't a doggy. She is our protector. And we have to ask if it's okay first, she told the baby girl in her arms and the young girl beside her. "I'm sorry. They are used to the animals on the farm we worked. Would you mind terribly if my older daughter feels your fur? It'll keep her relaxed a bit more," she asked. Max watched, his heart heavy over the scene but glad that the group accepted her so willingly. They trusted him. And through him, Cassie. "Do you all have enough? Need anything?" He asked the older couple. They shook their heads. "No, my lord. We're safe. Thank you." "You know you don't have to call me that. "But I want to. You deserve the title," the man insisted.

Octavius stared, jaw agape. "You really think that? I mean...I just...wow....but I think that about yours. Your smile and your life are really nice. Nicer then everything I've heard."

Cassie smiled both inwardly and outwardly as the little girl hugged her leg. It felt very nice to not be feared. She lifted her head to nod at the mother as she sat down making more of her fur available. She made sure to sniff all three of them well enough so that she'd remember their smells. She didn't mind the children at all, in fact, they reminded her of the pups from her tribe. They'd fall all over one another and anyone who got too close, then there were apologetic licks shared all around, and soon the play would continue. She hoped that things would work out here and that she could keep these people safe.

Now it was Jason turn to blush. Granted he didn't turn beet red, but it tinged his cheeks. "Thanks," He smiled and dried his hands. "I was born into this life, but now that I've dragged you into it, I think it'll improve for the both of us."

Both girls reached out, petting Cassie's fur with utter awe and happiness. Their mother gently pulled them back after a few minutes. "Alright, let's tell her thank you and let her do whatever she has planned for the night," she said. The girl who could talk looked up at Cassie before saying, "Thank you, doggy!"

Octavius shook his head. "You didn't drag me. You...well..." "Delivered?" Vera suggested quietly as Octavius dried the dishes. Octavius nodded. "That is the best I can describe it as."

Cassie let herself stand and shift into her half form so she could speak, but still be a fuzzy doggy. She kept her legs bent so she didn't tower over them. "It was my pleasure, but if you see a large thing running around, don't try to pet it since it might not be me. I'll check in with you all after I get done checking the rest of the orchard." She reached out and lightly ruffled the girls' hair before heading out, her tail wagging behind her.

"I'm glad you see it that way," Jason smiled at Vera then back to Octavius. "Once we're done here I'll take you over to the house, okay?" He grabbed a plate and started drying.

The little girl nodded. "Thank you," the mother said, watching her go. Max noticed the tail wagging and grinned. Cassie was happy. And that made him relax a little. It certainly made him happy.

Octavius nodded, snagging some of the dry dishes to put away. "Thank you, Jason."

Cassie walked out to Max's side, her wagging soon stopping as she sighed. "They were all slaves? Even the littlest?" She turned her head to look at him, her eyes showing how she felt.

Jason helped put the dishes away and once they were done he smiled at Vera. "Thank you for the meal, Vera! Good night!" He then went to the door to wait for Octavius.

Max sighed, nodding. "Sarah, the girls mother, attracted the attention of her master. Nine months later, her first little girl was born. Sadly, he wasn't done with her and fate and his refusal to listen to no created the second little girl. Two months ago, I found out and suddenly, her master was found dead. No one knows what happened. No one but him and his killer. Somehow, she and her two girls got lost in the fray. No one but the killer knows they are here."

Octavius followed, eagerly. Life seemed to be looking up. "Goodnight Vera."

"Goodnight, you two," Vera called, settling onto the couch with a book.

Cassie was silent until he had finished speaking. "I hope that I can thank that man's killer for doing something I hope I can do now that I'm free." She knew full well that it was him or someone he told to. "I don't know what's worse... Losing your children or worrying that your master will use them too..." She shook her head clearing that train of thought. "They're here and safe now, and I swear to protect them from anyone that would use them in any such manner."

Jason walked outside and headed off. "So, how was the food?" He asked after a few moments of silence.

Max's fist unclenched, his somber mood lifting a bit. "He knows. And is beyond glad you're here. I am thankful you're here and will help. Sarah has lost a pregnancy as well. Her master's wife was a jealous woman. She was found with him. Everyone thinks they finally snapped and killed each other. I know differently...I know it sounds picky and choosy, but I try to get those most in need out first. Everyone should be out, there are too many horror stories. But I try to take those in the most danger out first."

"The best I have ever had," Octavius said, honestly. "And I got more...I...There is a lot of new, really nice things I have had today. Thank you, Jason. I hope I can make you happy and be the best possible guard I can."

"Well, I'm glad I'm here too," Cassie smiled slightly. "Thank you." She glanced back to the bunker and sighed. "I'm glad I could make her children smile,"

"You're already making me happy," Jason nodded. "By being happy yourself. If you enjoy yourself, then I'll enjoy it too." He chuckled. "I know it sounds nuts, but it's true."

"Have to say that made me thrilled to see. They are so sweet," Max smiled. "I am setting them up in a safe house with toys and plenty of land for them to run around and be kids on. I think the couple have become surrogate grandparents. It's hard not to for two girls like them."

"I'm glad. That's how it should be," Octavius said, looking around as they walked. "Have you lived here your whole life?"

"How far away is the safe house? If it's not too far away I'd like to visit them once in a while, with your permission of course." Cassie rubbed the back of her head then chuckled. "Their hands were so tiny and soft..."

"Oh no, I've lived almost everywhere. Dad goes on these business trips that can last anywhere from a few hours to a few months, and he'll bring me along most times." Jason smiled happily.

"It'll be at least a few miles out. But of course you can. I would like to come as well," Max said. "They do have small hands," he chuckled.

"That sounds pretty cool," Octavius said, thinking of his own travels.

"They're so cute, I have to visit again." Cassie chuckled then looked up at the sky and moon. "I should probably get going,"

"I'll walk you back, if that's okay," Max told her, leading the way. He wanted to make sure no one and nothing attacked her.

"I have. I was born elsewhere. After a while, I was sent to other masters before being sent here, to this land. I have been here for most of my life," Octavius said. "It is...harsher here. There were more flowers and planted everywhere. Here is not as lush but still pretty."

"I, I was going to go explore the orchard tonight... The moon is bright enough for perfect vision." Cassie thought for a moment. "Would you want to come with me?"

"This place isn't the most temperate, but, oh! I have a place you simply have to see!" Jason laughed and took off sprinting. "Come on!"

Max looked up, watching the moon a moment. "Explore the orchard with you? I'd love to," Max said, flashing her a smile.

Octavius took off, running after him with ease. He couldn't help his smile as he did. Whatever Jason wanted to show him, Octavius was excited to see.

Cassie grinned and turned her back to him. "Climb on," She shifted down into her full form waiting for him and she hoped he wouldn't fall off if he decided to come with.

Soon enough they came to a very large hedge with an entrance. "After you," He bowed deeply a huge smile.
