A Dangerous Rebellion

When Vera caught that look, she giggled. Oh, she knew that look. Octavius might not yet, but she did.
"Different? Different in a good way?" Jason definitely sounded concerned.
Vera snuck off to set the table and dish out dinner, leaving Octavius alone with Jason. The redhead nodded. "A good different. I feel...relaxed," Octavius reassured him, searching a moment for the word.
"Good, I'm glad." Jason smiled broadly. "After what you've been through, I want you to be happy and comfortable here, because if you're unhappy, then I'm going to end up unhappy. I think that's why I didn't like any of my father's choices. None of them liked the outdoors like I do..." He huffed slightly and took a sip of his ale.
"Oh, Cassie, you're just as lovely as I thought in this form," Vera said, smiling at her as she placed the last bowl out. "Jason, Octavius, come join us for dinner," she added.
Octavius looked over before looking to Jason. "I like the outdoors. It's closer to nature and the elements. I can't use my powers as freely inside as outside. I'm still good, just need to be careful," he said, taking a sip from his mug. The ale wasn't as bad the second time.
"Coming!" Jason called out to Vera before motioning for Octavius to walk with him. "Well, we'll be spending plenty of time outdoors in nature, either on the ocean or perhaps in a forest." He planned to take him everywhere that he could think of that was fun.
Vera took the head of the table, gently reaching out her hand to offer it to Cassie. "I'm so sorry for your pain. You and Octavius carry so much with you. It breaks my heart. These boys are good. I trust max and Jay with my life. I wouldn't be here if I didn't think they were worthy."
Octavius didn't say anything about Vera having the head of the table. She was a strange woman but he was going to trust her, just like he was starting to trust Jason. "Sounds like a really good plan," Octavius said, waiting for Jason to sit first.
Jason took his seat next to Octavius and chuckled. "Of course it's a really good plan! I came up with it," He gently nudged him and winked.
"I found Vera in the market a few years back. She hasn't spilled much of her past but she made it pretty clear real fast that she was owned by no one. So everyone be quiet on that secret," Max chuckled, stage whispering the last bit. He was clearly joking. "Kind of like another strong willed woman I know."
Octavius grinned, his cheeks hurting from lack of use. But he was happy. He felt his cheeks heat, a blush creeping into view.
"That smile fits you Octavius," Jason grinned matching Octavius'. "I hope you'll have reason to use it more frequently now."
Max grinned, hiding in his stew before Vera decided to get him. "I think tomorrow I'll give you a tour, Cassie. You'll need to know who to make into mulch and who is friend."
Octavius blushed harder, his grin growing. "I do too. I certainly have good reason."
"Good, I'm glad," Jason nodded chuckling. "Now eat up," He grabbed his spoon and dug in.
Jason heard the pleased sound and grinned as he took another bite.
Octavius relaxed more, feeling the best he ever had.
Octavius finished his meal and sat back, looking over at the put still on the fire. He decided to wait until Jason was done so he could take his bowl. Because he wanted to, not because he had to or should as a slave.
Jason had finished soon after and he smiled over at Octavius. "Would you like seconds? That is if it's okay with Vera,"
Max chuckled, snagging Cassie's bowl. "Would you like more or would you like to just hang out here a moment before I show you around?"
Octavius looked up, stunned. "I can have more right now? Yes, please."
"Since Vera said yes, you can definitely have more," Jason got up and walked over to the pot. "Bring your bowl over and I'll fill it up for ya," He chuckled.
