"We pinky promise it won't happen again." Spencer added in a slightly sarcastic tone.
Mr. Pratt smiled at the two young men that stood before him and and nodded. "Oh, don't worry, kiddos. I understand being late, it's a-ok." he assured before handing the two textbooks. "Just take a seat anywhere you'd like and get the page we're on from a neighbor." the young teacher instructed.
Spencer took a seat next to an open one, hopefully where Sean would decide sit, in the back of the classroom as Mr. Pratt continued with his lecture.
(I have a feeling everyone would like this one better, though. ;o)
Mr. Pratt continued with his lecture. Shay sitting attentively, read along whilst taking detailed notes. She scratched her head every so often if she didn't quite know how to re-word something the young science teacher said. She turned around to look at her twin brother, though quickly turned back as the sound of Mr. Pratt's voice grew louder, meaning he'd been facing the class instead of having his back turned. "Don't get yourself in trouble on the first day, don't be as reckless as Spencer..." she told herself in a low whisper.
Amy listened, she couldn't help but feel this pang of sympathy for Draco. She passed him a note under the table instead. The note read: 'Please cheer up, everyone looks better when they smile, just remember that its happened and maybe she will like you again, or, there are plenty of fish in the sea.' Amy pretended that she didn't do anything and continued to listen.
The boy's brooding was interrupted when Spencer passed a note to him. So the other boy hadn't been taking notes after all. It wasn't that surprising either now that Sean thought about it. The message on the note, "Wanna skip next period??", wasn't a huge surprise either. Spencer sure hadn't lied when he said he didn't care about the rules. Still keeping his eyes on the note after reading it, Sean let out an amused huff while shaking his head slightly. This guy was going to get him in so much trouble.
Digging out a pen from his bag, Sean wrote "Why not" under Spencer's message. Sean's handwriting looked even messier under the other boy's somewhat fancy lettering but he didn't pay much attention to it before folding the paper again and passing it back to Spencer.
Closing her eyes, she leaned back, stretching.
Mr. Pratt stopped writing on the chalkboard and said, "Ah, Ms. White! What a pleasure." His words held genuine happiness and the raised hands slowly went down. (the dreaded mistake when you are stretching, and a teacher calls on you, because they think you are raising your hand X3 )
Sasha approached the board as if it were an animal, also the center of the classroom. Mr. Pratt cocked his head at her and said, "Please explain the nature of powers."
Sasha's worried grimace melted into a smile. At first she began awkwardly and stumbled a lot, but later, she was all out, pacing, hand gestures and the like. "You see, your powers are determined by your age, your sex, and your DNA. Now, it may sound it bit odd to be saying that out loud, because some of you may have thought the devil had danced on your mother's womb." A few students nodded, hiding their faces. "But nope. It's all in you.
"Your age has to do with your power's strength, your control over it, and how many tangents of it you control." A few curious looks got her rolling again. "Oh, ha, I forgot! Tangents are... break-offs from your power, where you can do something else with it. For instance, someone may have control over earth, and then later they realize they can control nature as well! Anyway, the best age to be in a power is twenty to thirty five, when most are at their prime.
"Your sex has to do with how you deal with your powers. For instance, guys go through a quick but painful change, but girls have it stretched out, hence they have a harder time with dealing with their powers.
"Obviously, your DNA decides your power, if you have one. I don't know how to exactly explain this one, but I'll try. Your DNA is what makes you, you! So imagine if it had something threaded into it... something that made us a little more than human!" She smiled and bowed to the professor. "Thank you sir."
She strode past people's open-mouths and obvious gazes and swept into her seat with a grin. Maybe this wouldn't be that bad.
Once Sasha entered the classroom and began rambling about the nature of powers, Spencer instantly became uninterested. Shay, however, paid close attention to the stranger that seemed to have taken over the classroom upon entering it.
Spencer looked at Sean and mouthed "What the hell was that?" before turning back and watching Sasha take her seat.
However, Sean wasn't as amused as a girl started rambling on and on about powers and stuff that affect them and whatnot at the front of the class. She was obviously younger than he was as well, just a bloody kid. The girl reminded him too much of his sister Kaylee when she was younger, so smart and so smug about it. She just had to rub the fact that she knew more than him at his face at every opportunity. Thankfully, Kaylee had grown up few years prior and wasn't such a prick anymore. However, the living reminder of his sister's previous self still stung. Sean crossed his arms while leaning back in his seat and all but glared at the girl as she was speaking in the front. Maybe Spencer and him should've skipped this class instead of the next one.
Once the girl was done with her little lecture, Sean glanced at Spencer who seemed to be as surprised by the little genius as everyone else was if his silent question was anything to go by. For some reason that irritated him even further. Sean merely shrugged as an answer to his friend before directing a glare that would have been lethal if looks could kill towards the girl as she got back in her seat. He barely resister the urge to hiss at her all the way from the back of the classroom.
She wasn't scared of this guy. To be quite frank, she wasn't really scared of anyone. If someone were to kill her, well get bloody on with it. She scanned the class for more glaring kids, and returned the favor to each and everyone. Her eyes came to rest on Sean once more, a silent challenge dancing in her eyes.
"Mr. Adkins! Detention for using powers without your teacher's permission!" As the class turned around to look at whoever had punished the meanest guy in the school, Ms. Adeline Harris herself stormed into the room, her gray hair nestled in a rare bun. She arrived at Spencer's dest and leered down at him. "Detention after school. One hour." She waited for a reply.
Judging by the repeated nose brushing that would only seem slightly weird to any normal person, Spencer was attempting to use his powers. In a classroom. Without permission. With a bunch of witnesses including a teacher. Sean had been painfully correct, it was a very bad idea. Though it was late to try and stop the other boy by that time as Sean heard a high pitched creaking sound due to a desk moving and scraping against the floor. Despite the fact that some unfortunate repercussions were most likely to take place very soon, Sean found himself sporting a small grin. He really wished he could have seen the girl's face when her desk suddenly started moving on its own.
Upon hearing a mumbled curse from his friend, Sean turned to look at Spencer and his smirk faded to a worried frown. From the look on the other boy's face, it was easy to deduct everything hadn't gone exactly to plan. However, Sean didn't have time to ask whether Spence was okay or not when Adeline Harris of all people just randomly stormed into the room and gave Spencer detention. When the old woman strode over to Spencer's desk and glared down at him, Sean didn't exactly think his next action through.
"Oh hey, wait a minute now," the lad stated with confidence in his voice as he got up from his seat so he could be somewhat on eye level with the headmistress. "Do you have any proof that powers were used?" Sean asked before tapping Spencer's head lightly, "If you do, do you have evidence it was Spence here who used his powers and not anyone else in this classroom?" There was a hint of a challenge in Sean's voice as he dismissed the part of his brain that was telling him that he was only making matters worse.
Spencer watched Sean get up from his seat with a curious look in his face. When the lad tapped his head, he couldn't help but blush slightly. As soon as the "hazy purple trail" had appeared, Spencer, not being intimidated by the headmistress, looked up at her. "Ma'am, I don't mean to be rude, but how could I have even done that? My powers aren't strong enough to even move that desk." he lied trying to prevent himself from smiling.
"It could have easily been anyone else in this classroom seeing as she just gave the impression to ninety-five percent of the classroom that she's a snotty, 'Ms. Know-it-All', type of person which, in my opinion, can easily get you disliked. I mean, haven't you ever read Harry Potter? Hermione was dislike initially because of her attitude and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way." Spencer concluded while giving Sasha a subtle glare.
